    My son had his dogs DNA tested & it came back Austrailian Cattle, Kelpie & yes Dingo. He's my grandson lol Bohdie is so incredibly smart, the sweetest boy ever, yet extremely protective, with a fair amount of crazy. He is a rescue, he had been living on the street. He was around 4 and quite a handful! My son put a lot of time,love,&patience into this boy. Worth every second!!!

    I am from the USA. Our Kelpie was abandoned at a farm but ended up with us, as an urban family dog. BEST DOG EVER.!!!! We named her Mosey as a puppy because she just went along with everything. She alerted me and saved my 2yr old son when he escaped the house before dawn. She succumbed to a brain tumor 4yrs ago but we love and miss her ❤️❤️❤️ This isn’t a common breed here but my children hope to one day find another like her.

      Saw your post about Mosey and saved your son. Filled my eyes with tears. That’s what they do. Sad to hear he was abandoned on a farm and sad you lost him. They are a national treasure here in Australia. Your post struck a nerve and I hope you have luck with a new pup. I am lying on my bed with 2 Kelpies cuddled up next to me, I am 75 now still on a farm and love my kelpies. May God bless you and your family.🦘🦘

    Watching video with my Kelpie as we have lunch. I live in the city, and wanted a couch dog... well i adopted her at six months, under the impression she was a corgi mix. Now one year later, i am more active and have lost 70 lbs. She loves the dog parks, Frisbee, and going mountain biking with me. She does get a bit pushy if she does not get her daily work out, but over all she is a very smart and easily trainable dog. She stays by my side on walks, no leash. She quickly grasped: Left, right, stop, and go for our bike excursions. I would probably not get another one, unless I move out to the country. I don't know how a full bred kelpie got into a shelter in the middle of the city ? But i am glad she is in my life as we are helping each other grow.

    Two Kelpie stories for you. First, when I was very young, we were at my grandparents farm at Christmas time, there was a big party, so many people that trestles were set up in one of the barns. I was the 4th child in my family, my Aunts and Uncles were there with their kids. Kids running and yelling. Come lunch time, masses of people and mobs of kids, once it quieted down, it was noticed my eldest brother was missing and a general search instituted, he was found back to the wall behind one of the outlying barns, with a Kelpie in front of him and a really large aggressive and angry snake being held at bay by the dog. Second story, I was way up north in Norway, waiting in my hired car for a ferry to arrive to take me across the fiord. I got out of the car and walked along the drain by the side of the road. Along the road came this woman, a local, bundled up, with a Kelpie trailing her. I whistled-up the dog and it stopped, stood up, looked at me, ran to the woman, I walked up and the dog came and smelled my boots (which I’d worn on numerous farms). The woman smiled and spoke to me in Norwegian and I replied in English, to which she replied and told me the dog was her best friend and only because of the dog she could farm sheep in the hill country, she said she had 4 kelpies which were worth more than 4 men to her on her farm. Her farm was just outside the Arctic circle, she kept her sheep under cover more than 4 months of the year, then took them to the high country in the spring, through summer and back down in the autumn. During winter the dogs worked the sheep in the barns!

    We got a rescue that was supposed to be a shepherd/Lab mix. Not. Definitely a Kelpie. Fabulously smart and loving dog. As soon as I saw him run at 3 months old when we got him I knew he wasn't a sheperd or Lab mix. Also knew we would need higher fences 😀. Never saw a dog run so fast. Going to get him involved in agility competition. Thought about frisbee competition however so far he likes to run away with it to make me chase him and fight for it. Very possessive of his toys and likes to keep them in nice neat piles. Amazing dog and now only dog breed we would ever want. Actually we are thinking of getting another. Very determined and stubborn type though and sent him to 2week obedience training. Still hardheaded but will eventually listen. Very clever though and will test, you just need to be firm and he will submit. No unnecessary barking and learns extremely quickly. Doesn't she'd much either. Fabulous breed and Very Happy we found him. Couldn't ask for a better dog 😉

      Hey, I had to respond to your comment. I was given a Kelpie puppy by a lovely neighbour who bred a litter. He is the runt of the litter. I had never had a Kelpie before....always had Healers and Mini Foxies. I didn't have any experience with Kelpies at all. Now I wouldnt have any other breed. I hadn't named the pup. I wanted to observe his character to see what he may be like, and then name him appropriately. I called him Rowdy.....because he never barked. I reckon he was six months old before I heard him bark at all. He has the most endearing low growl which is so quiet you can barely hear him....to let you know that he has heard something. I love Rowdy.!!

Look up the black dingo.. it’s a forest dingo and apparently captain cook stole them and took them to Scotland to breed with the rough collie.. that’s the story I have been told. Dingoes are amazing and Australia should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to kill and eradicate a native species just like the Thylacine. Dingoes are NOT dogs.. they are amazing Australian wildlife.

I kept and worked borders when I was young and I have had smooth coated pups in a litter as well as the odd black and solid and black and tan borders. The colour doesn't matter, they just had to want to work. The same is true for the Kelpie.

I would say my Kelpie is nowhere as intelligent as the Elkhounds, and the only animal she herds well are the Elkhounds. Nor is she as good at agility as the Elkhounds. She is needy and sneaky, not to be trusted alone in the house for extended periods. She is very fast and good with puppies. She is generally a pain in the ass but I love her anyway.

    What's the difference between Kelpie dog and blue heeler

    • @franknsnodge
      @franknsnodge Před rokem

      I've had both... The Healers are a a bit heavier, have a bigger heat and a stronger bite. They tend to be a bit more agressive/assertive. They are definitely more territorial. One of the traits bread into Healers was the capacity to look after or to guard his owner's property...usually a horse and a saddle. The Kelpie is a lighter, more agile dog. It is amazing to see how lithe and springy they are when they jump. The Kelpie has seemingly endless energy and can work and work. Healers are good workers too, but I reckon the Kelpie wouldstill be at it while the Healer has smoko. Both are excellent companions. Both need space and exercise. Both need stimulation and to be challenged. Kelpies don't do well being growled at.....You will never teach a Kelpie anything if you yell at them or focus on a negative. They do best with positive affirmations. I think the Kelpie is a bit cleverer, more easily trained. Having said that the smartest dog of all time has to be Skidboot....Google him. Both are great breeds. Blokes who work cattle probably favor the Healer a little more. The kelpies are favoured more by sheep handlers...I reckon. I use my Kelpies on cattle.

    of course she mated with the smartest dingo who did not touch the traps... because he found it was a better rout to breed the girl rather than eat the baits... first.. because he for sure ate them on the way out, or... the other blokes ate them while he came out and just went home!!!

    I read that the University of Sydney did a DNA analysis of the Australian Kelpie and found no dingo in its DNA at all. I'm just wondering what did they find ? What is the total DNA analysis of this best of all breeds? Where did it really come from? Does it really descend from Scottish Collies? I want to know what the DNA says.
    People used to say Malamutes and Siberian Huskies were part wolf. No Eskimo and his right mind would breed his beloved Malamute to a wolf. There is no wolf DNA in these dogs either. Somebody help me here 🤪

      Timoteo - there seem to be several different DNA lines - of kelpie DNA and some show dingo, some do not - there is also another dog breed in the mix that maybe GERMAN SHEPHERD or the breed beginning with B that sounds like Bernaise sauce

      @@alistairlewis2461 I could sure see how that is possible. Dogs and dingos alike , there is no stopping them when it's breeding time. I'm going to buy the book. It cost quite a bit with the shipping. I'm quite sure that it is worth it. I think the American dollar is sinking fast because of this covid-19. There is over 80,000 dead so far, and no end in sight. I hope my dogs and I don't get it. I have a jet black and tan Kelpie and also a Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog. I didn't mean to get Australian dogs it just ended up that way. Was 20 seconds.....Sparky, my new kelpie does not howl. He does not bark - unless you are at door - he was a "paddock" kelpie bred for ranging far and wide - not the yards - different work. According to a book written by Bill Robertson, DNA testing shows that there is about 3-4% dingo in the kelpie and this dates back to the very early days of the breed. Renowned kelpie breeder and expert Tony Parson agrees that there is a “dash” of dingo in the kelpie but that this infusion happened later on.
