    I answered an ad for a free cow dog and got my kelpie. I didn't know what he was till he was gone but he was the greatest dog ever! Smart, loyal, strong, protective and fearless. He could learn anything you showed him so fast. He had a long list of word commands and gestures he followed. Tireless and true, I miss him. 😔

    I have a Kelpie she's 2 years old we got her at a ranch for free back in 2019, she's very energetic and whenever I throw her favorite ball she won't hesitate on chasing & catching the ball and brings it to me. 😁

    My Kelpie died of liver cancer at about 10 years of age. He did more and burned brighter in those 10 years than any other dog I ever had. I really miss my pal..".Deakin"

      Same with Zak our kelpie, he was the 8th rescue dog we've taken in, he suddenly died aged 9. He was fantastic dog and no amount of writing would do him justice and the happiness he brought to our house. How were we to know when we took in this 8 month old mongrel, because that the RSPCA thought that was what he was. After about 4 months we found out what breed he was, mind you we had never heard of the kelpie as a breed, read up about them on the web. He fitted in straight away with out other dog, soon took over all the dog tasks and became our top dog after about 3 weeks. He was so friendly with everyone and everything, he was so easy to train, so obedient and just loved to do everything except swimming. How could a dog be so perfect??? How was it that he never misbehaved?? These were question we asked ourselves as we had had 7 rescue dogs before, this dog was so different, everybody loved him. We do miss our old Zak so much, just have to be happy that we did have 8 years with him.

    I got my first Kelpie from the Navajo reservation. I didn't know what breed he was. He was the strongest, fastest and most protective dog I ever had. He was very smart and very brave. There was no place in the canyons that he could not run to. He was way faster than my ACDs I miss him, but there are so many others that just need a home. Go get one. They will never make you sorry.

      I agree, I got mine free and I didn't know what he was until he was gone. He was undoubtedly the fastest, smartest and most protective dog I ever had. Saving up now for another one!

    We borrowed this DVD from our local library and have purchased another AVP Kelpie training DVD (hopefully on its way) the other day. This video was an excellent, well produced video and congratulations to AVP and the people behind the video's making. I have purchased the book for my wife's Christmas present. This video can also be streamed through Vimeo for a reasonable purchase price, although I feel the rental is too expensive.

    I found a Kelpie wandering in my neighborhood one day & I took her in. I had no idea what kind if dog she was but thought she was very unique & very smart. That was 18 years ago. I was told she was about 5 at the time, but I can't believe she's now 23. What a GREAT DOG.! She's now on her last legs & it's going to kill me when I have to put her to rest.If I had the money I'd clone her & have 1, THIS 1, for the rest of my life.. I Love this dog as much as anything I ever known..Boy I'll miss her.

    Although mine is a Stumpy Tail, their personalities are quite close. My "Pepper", also a chaser of anything that has a wheel, or roles by, is also the " boss". Our beloved " Buddy" , "Peppers'" big brother ,her adopted tibet

    • @markhill9275
      @markhill9275 Před 2 lety

      The Stumpy tail is actually quite rare and a more robust dog. The are Kelpie, crossed with the now gone Smithfield terrier. Absolutely the best working dog of all. I had one, Jess, brought her with me to the USotA when I moved here. The Smithfield Kelpie, the correct name, is the only Kelpie that could possibly work cattle, Kelpies are too light framed for cattle, that's why Queensland Heelers are used.

      Probably a mix, the Kelpie has a leaner rear, and a much stronger herding instinct. Kelpies are more movement activated that Shepherds. I have a mix, Molly, who is a rescue, thought she was Shepherd till I started looking, even my vet agrees now. Strange, since I brought my Kelpie with me to the USotA, and found Molly after Jess died, and I'm dinki di true blue.
