I honestly feel as though I would rather my husband told me that he was having dreams about my mother than, "I'm having some really disturbing dreams that I would rather not talk about." That vague, inauspicious admission is going to make 1,000 terrible ideas run through my head, whereas dreams of my mother would seem more embarrassing than anything.

These are such honest, open conversations that need to be had prior to marriage, after marriage, and in marriage to keep couples healthy and whole. Sexual intimacy is such an important aspect of a relationship between a husband and his wife. Cultivating desire and intimacy has to be the lifelong pursuit of the married couple.
I agree. However, purity culture has hurt so many people. He needs to let her know that he desires her and not just needs release.
Caller #2, Jack, sounds like a truly wonderful husband. He called in to find ways to be better to help his wife through a majorly sensitive issue that she may feel ashamed to reach out about on her own, especially at her age and given the topic. He wasn’t asking for selfish reasons. He wasn’t speaking on his own frustration. He just said “we knew this going in, we’re taking our time, and I just want to know what I can do to help her through this”. He sounded appalled at the notion of even thinking something was wrong with his wife. Whoever his wife is… ma’am, you’ve won the grand prize with that man. I hope you guys have crossed this hurdle and are having the happiest of marriages. ❤
Maybe she needs that part of his needs left alone and he just stays sweet and loving. Hugging her in NON sexual ways and be close to her, giving the kiss without the kiss so she has time to start feeling the tingles so to say.
Yes, he is fabulous…but I think it’s not going to work, if she is 49. Speaking from a woman perspective and working in all-women environment (I am a nurse). She must to release this gem of a man to have a full life.

Of course they got married because they love each other and they will work through this together. Marriage is a vow, a covenant, a commitment, a sacrament-you don’t toss it out over challenge like this, especially one with two people so clearly willing to make the effort and at an age where they have some wisdom & perspective on how important this is in the bigger picture. Sex is important but not all not important.

@@unvlividian3490when trust is broken people typically want to find out every single detail in order to gain a more understanding perspective and make sense of something that is really hard to make sense of at the time. That’s how we are as humans, always trying to make sense of reality, and doing that involves some amount of trust. You have to trust that everything won’t spontaneously combust or change rapidly. When your perception of reality changes rapidly you can feel pretty lost. You always want to be prepared so you can avoid the feeling of not having that sense of order, and to do that, we try to collect all the data. The issue is that no one thinks in exactly the same way as you, some choices people make have no sense of logic behind them, and everyone thinks at least 1 degree differently than the day before So, while data mining can help with understanding the past and preparing for the future, you can’t always understand the ins and outs of everything and some of the data can be irrelevant and harmful to have on repeat in your head.

the roughest one i've heard was the one with Dave Ramsey when the woman called in and was in an abusive relationship. that was so sad. Kudos to Dr. D and the Ramsey team for intervening for her safety

I think they did an update at one point the day later and then a few weeks or months after. From what I remember, the Ramsey team was able to help her and get her and the kid to a safe place.
If you reach out to their social media team, they can probably point you to the videos of those calls.
She was really trying to frantically ask for financial advice 😂😢. That was unreal and very sad.
For the guy dreaming about his mother in law while his wife is 37 weeks pregnant, I wish John had asked how his sex life is with his wife in that season because it's not uncommon to stop having sex ,or sex change when pregnant. Since his mother in law is so much like his wife, she could symbolize having sex without the modifications, etc that's needed in pregnancy.

If you study the neuroscience (as I do) you realize the profound difference, and power, you have, when you learn to step out of your “monkey mind”.
Your comment sounds like you have a leaned helplessness foundation, that is defeatist and self limiting.
You CAN break out of whatever nervous system/limbic system, hijack patterns, when you reprogram your brain…undoing and resetting the programs conditioned in early on.
You can learn to be an observer of your mind, vs a slave to it. Massive difference. You can unhook from the biases, distortions, and subsequent narratives, that create the majority of our suffering, when you do this.
It is completely possible…but you can’t think your way into it. You’ve got to do the deep nervous system work, daily, and face the stuff that the overthinking mind is using overthinking to avoid. That overthinking is addictive and a false anchor against uncertainty. Being able to tolerate uncertainty, difficult emotions, and more is key. Slowly, surely, that overthinking brain is taught a new way.
My heart breaks for the wife of the sex dream guy. That must be so devastating regardless, that he says it doesn’t mean anything. And she did have past experiences as well about other people desiring her own mother. I don’t know how anyone handles that.
So one study found that 2/3 of men found their MIL attractive. Oddly, only 25% of men said they had fantasized about their MIL.
Seems like most of that 2/3 number is not being honest...unless you think the average man never fantasizes about attractive women.

1ts call rings home but I wore "her" shoes. In early to late 80s I lived in LA, working as audio engineer for a major recording studio, sound guy at two "famous" rock bars as well as a struggling musician myself, in a few bands. Including one that was signed by Mercury records. (We didnt go very far lol) But all those circumstances gave me many opportunities to be pretty promiscuous...and I was. Fortunately I stayed safe health wise, and child free.
Skip ahead to 2002. I met a great woman online who was moving to my state (NC) in a few months. We talked about things, I didnt lie but I didn't give details. Not acts, not counts, not places etc. She finally moved here and we met, started dating, met our families and my friends. She had no friends here, yet.
Over time she started to hear "the stories" about my past. Especially from my friends, two who were in the band I mentioned, wives! And my ex-wife who is the sister of one of my bandmates. Why would they do that I always asked them...always gave me it's her right to know BS. I know it was to sabotage my relationship...and it almost did.
My gf had for several years after hearing details about my past always wondered if I was satisfied with her, would I cheat on her etc etc. And she would use what I did years before I ever met her against me when we squabbled.
She always agreed when I said I never lied about it but she had a problem with my not divulging the details. I also told her she never asked me for details and she said she didn't want to know them but now that she did..it was a problem for her.
I told her she wasn't naive and knew what those details could be, were, when we first started our relationship, why were they a problem now? She didn't know.
It took about 5 more years for her to stop bringing it up, to get over it etc. We've now been married 15 years, both our 2nd, and not once has she ever brought it up in anger. Ever!
But it does come up sometimes! Back stage at concerts. When a band that's in town comes to our house. When we go to visit them! Because I'm still in contact with several bands of the 80s and 90s and their members! And she laughs about it now. She got over her doubts and insecurities, with my proving she didnt have to worry about me or us, and also on her own.
We've had a great 22 yr relationship, 15 yrs marriage, sex is still a very large part of it and we're 58 and 48 now! (Thank you testosterone treatments 😂)

As someone in my forties with two small children, who had many sexual encounters during my youth since age 14, who has become tired of sex now and honestly no longer interested, I can't imagine what it must feel like for a woman almost 50 just entering her sexual life. There was also no mention of her hormonal levels now and how that may be affecting her sexuality.

I love that you have love and survived grim conditions. Whether this individual truly enjoyed the lifestyle is between her, her spouse, and her God. S*x work is not a monolithic experience. Some people have a choice and make this one. Others don't and are either groomed or trafficked- hardly easy money.
