    I love my 2000 TDI 400,000 km and counting. The engine is great and I'm averaging 4.2 liters on 100 km per tank 80% hwy 20% city.

    Besides getting good fuel economy, wouldn't a diesel engine also last longer than a regular gasoline engine?

    Yes you can, manufacturer suggests you can fill up with B20 which is 20% Biodiesel and 80% mineral Diesel,but you can use B100 with as little or no modifications at all,depending on the vehicle.

    Good point. Actually, I like the TDI, because it has lots of power and is also very fuel efficient.

    furley523 posted this; "I have an 06 TDI; the services are expensive!"
    The service at VW costs $140 mainly because the the TDI uses a diesel specific full synthetic oil (505.00). You change the oil every 10,000 miles.

    They are as quiet as a diesel can be, but you can still hear them. The Merc, BMW and Honda produce the quietest diesel engines. Honda has a 2.2 Common rail turbo diesel engine which they use in the Accord, giving a quiet and refined ride. Likewise Merc CDI engines are very quiet

  • @monk3yboy69
    @monk3yboy69 Před 15 lety

    I am afraid you are mistaken. The 2.0 TDI 140 PS is a common rail. I have checked this on the VW website and confirmed with a dealership. Check the listing in What Car?

  • @oilhammer04
    @oilhammer04 Před 16 lety

    Diesel costs about 24% more than gas and the diesel model costs several thousand more than the gasoline model, so it just doesn't pay anymore. They use to be a good deal when diesel was cheaper than gasoline. Also ask the parts department what the 505.01 oil costs for this car. I think 5 liters is about $45 (if you go on line and hunt for it), but after 10,000 miles you change the oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months.

    Lo que pasa es que en México, el Jetta es el Volkswagen Vento en Alemania. En E.U. cambian los nombres para tratar de vender mas. Esto me lo explicó un asesor técnico de la Volkswagen acá en Puebla.

  • @dirtastegood
    @dirtastegood Před 14 lety

    @heysas Exactly. The biproduct is going to be left over, whether they make it into diesel or not. They will never stop producing gas, so that biproduct is always going to be there. My point i was trying to make was that it was gas that took all the work, when diesel is an added leftover/bonus if they choose it to be. Therefore, it should be cheaper. And yes, they still have to refine that biproduct, it is not automatically diesel. So i am not the stupid one, you just did not understand.

    Incorrect. Audi A3 is still on the 140 PS engine which is the same as theJetta, Golf and Passat. All are common rail. The A4 has got the new 143 PS engine. There is a 170 PS engine available as well for all the models.

  • @derbigpr500
    @derbigpr500 Před 15 lety +1

    Actually PSA (peugeot and citroen) and Renaults diesel engines are more smooth than Merc, BMW and Honda.
    Also the new Audi diesel engines with common rail are smoother too.

  • @derbigpr500
    @derbigpr500 Před 15 lety

    I dont know..... but why would they make a new version of 2.0 TDI then? If the old one already had common rail....and they said in every magazine that the biggest change on new version is common rail, which will reduce noise and improve fuel efficiency?
    And im pretty sure that 2.0 TDI on golf 5 and passat with 140 hp was rough, loud, worked like a tractor. And a new one in A4 for example is very smooth and silent.

    Studies say Diesel engines last up to 3 times as more than Petrol engines,that is why only Diesel engines are found on lorries,buses,ships,etc, they also have a bigger energy efficiency of 50%, compared to 23% on the best Petrol engines.

  • @E63Brabus
    @E63Brabus Před 16 lety

    The point of a Diesel engine is fuel economy, this car delivers excelent value for money, you get impressive torque at lower RPM's than in a petrol powered car.
    In motorway conditions this car does 25km/L, compared to 14km/L on the 2.5L petrol engine, Diesel costs more but you are polluting less and you can fill up with biodiesel which is cheaper than normal mineral Diesel.

  • @monk3yboy69
    @monk3yboy69 Před 15 lety

    I would not go as far as saying the new engine is quiet. It is more refined, sure, but you can still hear it is a diesel.

  • @UTubeGlennAR

    I converted my 2ooo Jet into a vJet, Home made-dual fuel hybrid burning either diesel of vegetable oil.
    So far the best MPG I have gotten when not factoring in the free vegi oil was 298 MPG
    Also, I regularly tow a 6oo lb trailer. Just today I fetched 1oo gallons of kerosene. The Jet acted like she didn't know the trailer was even hitched on (and it was 4 mile up hill journey).
    Mistakenly I once loaded up 22oo lbs on mason sand-The Jet did notice but she did the job nontheless-even the breaks

    No, 140 PS versions aren't common rail. Only new 143 and 170 ps versions are common rail. Old 140 ps versions have ordinary old fashioned pump injection. One of the reasons why they were so rough and loud.

  • @derbigpr500
    @derbigpr500 Před 15 lety

  • @derbigpr500
    @derbigpr500 Před 15 lety

    No no no. They used to be the same, not anymore. Audi now puts the new version of TDI in A3 and A4.
    It has common rail, 143 hp and its much quieter and smoother then 140hp version of TDI thats put into Jetta, Golf ,Passat, etc.
    But, it also lost some of that famous diesel punch when you floor the throttle. Now it has much smoother acceleration, not as violent and rough as before.

    @bg1379 Před 16 lety

    You are kind of taking the same kind of risk that a person driving a hybrid is. If gas prices grow significantly higher, than they will earn the money they spent over the gasoline engine back. Here, you are praying that the ratio of the cost of gas to the cost of diesel goes back to what it used to be, in which case this would be one of the cheapest cars on the road to drive, as it will also last longer than a hybrid.

    Our 2003 Jetta TDI 5 speed gets 48mpg easily, more if you drive it right. Lets see a prius get that. Plus Diesel is a cleaner made fuel, with different processing.

  • @Jamie_T_Hall
    @Jamie_T_Hall Před 15 lety

    I agree the prius is a gimick for movie stars and tool's. If anyone thinks other wise consider this, when the jetta is turning over 400,000 miles you will have most likely replaced 2 batteries in your prius at 10,000 dollars each. You might as well buy 2 jettas at that point.
