I came across your video today. Very informative. Have you ever had success with data save recovery on an initialized PS4 hard drive?
1st if your hard drive is bad your Data is lost and not worth the price of parts, time, and effort needed to recover the data even if you are doing it yourself at home.
2nd if you are upgrading you can easily do an offline backup before replacement
Last but not least if your data was all that important to you, you would have backed it up online.

You're welcome, I strongly recommend you cleanout the PS4 as dust build-up is likely what damaged your first HDD NOTE: Do not do what all the other CZcams videos tell you to do regarding replacing the thermal paste most of the time it is not necessary, and should not be dune if a normal cleaning works it is not a good preventative procedure but would be classified as a repair do to its invasive nature should you do that to your system do not use anything under arctic silver 5 in fact just use only arctic silver 5 it is perfect and will last for 20 years if you keep your system cleaned out.
to properly clean out your PS4 remove the power supply only nothing else use and air compressor set at 40PSI to reverse airflow threw the heatsink back and forth untell no dust comes out the rest of the dust in the system is less important but should be blown out. Do this religiously every 6 months or less if you are getting a lot out of the system you should never weight untell the fan gest lowed to clean the system which is very bad.

UPDATE you no longer need to format the HDD just install it plug in the USB Update and turn it on and as long as you set up the USB correctly and did not actually have a different problem all will be happy gaming very quickly.

I spilled juice on my fan area on my Xbox now it won't even turn on or even make a noise when you hit the on button in the front but you can hear a noise once you put in the power cord it makes a sound like the power is coming threw but not all the way I was wondering if it wouldn't turn on because of a fried mother board or the power supply is damaged
there is no way I or any video on the planet can help you with liquid your problem can be any one of 1000s of reasons you need to take it to a qualified shop and you have 3 days before it likely becomes impossible to repair under any circumstances
@@ClovisX I was gonna test the motherboard for any fried areas then replace it and the power supply. it's most likely the mother board because fan is directly above it and the fan is basically hard to fry

Another question.. are all hard drive adapters the same? I’m asking because I found one in my garage lol but i don’t want to risk making things worse if it needs s specific adapter or of they’re all created equal as long as it’s the right connections on each end
No hard drive adapters are not the same there are hundreds of different kinds of adapters it would be best to take your system to a qualified shop if you are not sure it is better than destroying the system in such a way as to render it not repairable ever.

hook it to your laptop remove anything important and open the command prompt type in [ diskpart then hit enter ] then type in [ list disk then hit enter ] find that disk in the list it will be 1,2or3 type [ select disk # then hit enter ] it will say it is selected then type the word [ clean then hit enter ] then after it says it was cleaned type [ Exit then hit enter ] and give him the HDD he can then put it in the PS4 and use the installation update to install it.

The PS4 can format over lots of different partitions all by itself try installing the HDD in the PS4 then Use the USB installation update and it should be fine if not then follow the steps in this video.
So you're saying that it's ok to install it in ps4 directly even if the format of the internal hdd is not NTFS but FAT32 or ExFAT?

when you are getting the system update file does it need to be a certain "open with" file when it is being downloaded to the computer
I think nowadays you right-click and select save as then after you get the file put it in the folders they tell you named specifically as they instruct

1st this is a PS4 Video but okay, there are lots of reasons for what you have described it can be the power supply itself borrow a friends PSU and see if it works. If that does not work you need to take it to a qualifed shop for the repair because there is no one fix for that there are over 100 different reasons/components that could be bad or shorted and no CZcams video will show you how to test them, [No Money? Save Up.] Better a cheap repair than a complete replacement.
PS if it is your PSU Replace it do not try to repair it you will likely only burn down your house! No Joke.
@@ClovisX there are several vids showing how to check circuit boards for shorts. rather simple really. using a circuit tester it will beep when touched both sides of a component thats working, no beep, that component doesnt pass electric through. sounds like in stand by mode its fine, under load it isnt, so that eliminates 100's of components too. i should make a vid XD
I just got a new 2TV HDD for my PS4 Pro. I have a USB with nearly 8GB of free space. I never see Disk 2 show up but my USB will show up under Disk 1. When I right click, I can't change volumes. Now I feel like I wasted 64 dollars. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I deleted everything from the USB, formatted it. Cleaned it up by running commands and nothing.

Yes you can use the internal cables. Just turn your PC off before plugging or unplugging anything.
Okay I got a seagate video 3.5 HDD 2000GB and I wanna install it in the 500gb ps4 which I know how to install I do tear down about every six months clean it out and put new past in but I rather use it as a usb so do I need to still reformat it with ps4 or can jus plug and transfer save games bam or am I totally jus wrong lol look I do research before I do anything and ask then I dive deep lol thanks man
You should not be tearing it down every six months to replace thermal paste if your system is not allowed to run hot it can and will last 15+ years the only thing you need to do every six months is Cleanout the dust and there is no need to do anything other than removing the power supply to do that properly. Unless you have a converter you can not use a 3.5 in your PS4 it would be best as an external anyway yes use the system to format it and transfer all games to it and the ones you play most keep on the system HDD.

There was an update just after this video that allows you to install any SATA HDD or SSD right out of the box with or without formatting it [On every PS4 Model], just put it in the system.
NOTE 1: You will need the installation Update on a USB to install it.
NOTE 2: It will play and work no different than the original HDD that was in the system
NOTE 3: If the HDD you plan to install has Windows 10 or any other computer operating on it you should hook it to a laptop or computer and use diskpart to clean the drive of all partitions before installing it into your PS4

I have a question.. I did this successfully once about a Year ago.. ps4 is stuck on safe mode again but it’s not working.. so I thought maybe the update in my usb was old so I downloaded the most recent update which is the 10.00 made sure everything was saved in the correct folder format on the usb and all that.. but it won’t work.. it detects the file and uploads but as soon as it tries to install.. I get a blue screen on my tv saying no HDMI detected.. then it’ll go back and be back at the screen asking to connect a DUALSHOCK4 and then back to the options screen.. so what could be wrong? Question after I created a new partition and assigned a new letter , does the drive supposed to show up in my pc or not or is just strictly for the ps4 now
first, you do not need to assign a drive letter the computer will automatically do that when you first format the HDD then it will show up inside your PC just like any other hard drive. After you install it into your PS4 using the USB installation update Update you are finished.
I don't see why you would but if if you did pull it out and put it back on the PC It will not show up in your computer as A HDD but it will show up under disk management something you do not even need to do.
for a new or used HDD your steps are
1. wipe any existing partitions and make 1 new NTFS partition
2. install the HDD in the PS4 Plug in the USB with the newest installation update
3. follow the on-screen prompts if no prompts select #1 initialize with update then follow on-screen prompts
4. log into your PS account.
5. Start Playing.
When it tries to update the driver for the hDd it says not supported

Absolutely. Wipe everything as done in this video and then you'll be able to use it in the ps4. You will also have to install the "complete system update file" that can be found on sony's website
If you plug the HDD into your PC and it shows up with a single partition that is NTFS and there are no files on it then yes it is good to install as is, if there is more than one partition then you need to follow the video and remove them if you find partitions that will not delete let me know I will walk you threw removing them.

Sorry to say You will not be able to do that repair at home despite all the faked videos on youtube showing B.S. Heat Gun's and Pliers a practice that will only end in the complete and utter destruction of your game system it would be better to save up the $100 for a repair than it would too spend $60 to $80 on stuff to kill your system then spend $300 for a new system after murdering the old one needlessly.

If your old hard drive is good you do not need the USB you only need to follow this video: czcams.com/video/2OCR97-THF0/video.html
Your USB's will not work untell in safe mode and they must be plugged in with the USB cord if it is not working try a different controller and or cord because no matter what you do you will need the Controller hard wired to the PS4
Note: Some PS4's have a USB in the back of the system you can try using if the front 2 are not working

Only if it is a SATA Drive and only if you can remove it from the box it is enclosed inside because it can not be used via the USB

Hey Daniel, I did not think the PS4 recognized NTFS at all. Only exFat or Fat32.
for the USB update, it must be formated exFat or Fat32 The Hard Drive itself can be installed without any formatting whatsoever it can also be formated to NTFS and it will still take the install Update fine.

once you wipe the 500G HDD install it into the PS4 then plug in the USB and controller using its USB then follow the onscreen instructions on your PS4
Using a PC or Mac, create a folder on the FAT32 USB named "PS4". Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE". Visit the PS4 system software update page, and select the "instalation Update system software". Download the update file and save it in the "UPDATE" folder. Save the file as "PS4UPDATE.PUP" it should automatickly name the donload folder if it has a (1) or (2) before the word .PUP Deleat that it must say PS4UPDATE.PUP

Not a dumb question, 1st if you are using a PS4 HDD that is on the same update as the system you are putting it in you do not need the USB Update it is and OS Installation program. 2nd the reason you can not put the OS file on the HDD is because the HDD must be formated to that specific system by the specific system so it must be deleted before it can be used by the system, that is the reason for needing the USB installation update it is less about the Update than it is a small program that the system needs before it can install the Update in the system that will make it specific to the system it is being installed.

1st when you initialize your PS4 it is formatting the hard drive
2nd when the power goes out the hard drive that is corrupted is the internal HDD or SSD depending on what you have inside not the external turn on your system without the external attached to the system then when safe mode turns on select option 6 then log back into your account after selecting your options once you have your system up and running hook up the external HDD or SSD whatever you are using and you should be up and running. Done this every way I’ve seen to do it on CZcams and my PS4 still can’t find file no numbers in the PS4UPDATE.PUP but still does NOT WORK I’m at my wits end with it would like some opinions on what to do thanx.....

So the best I can tell my hard drive is corrupted. The only thing it will do is allow me to try to log into safe mode. We're getting a new harddrive takes this issue? It also seemed to be overheating prior to doing this. After playing awhile the screen would just go black. You could back out to the main PS screen or whatever then back to your game. If you wanted to play for any length of time to get your game to a save point or whatever you could pack around the PlayStation with those gel ice packs. That would allow you time to get yourself to a save point without the screen going black or losing sound or whatever. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would be great if I could possibly save the game played save data or whatever.
Do not put ICE or ICE packs on your system! Just turn it off and clean it I have a lot of videos on almost every model it is not hard to do, as for your hard drive to find out if it is bad you can download smart scan and test it you would need to hook it to a laptop or PC to run the test so a SATA to USB may be needed if you do not have a free spot in your PC it should scan all green any yellow or red on the left side is hardware not software it needs to be replaced
@ClovisX I kept it clean / blown out all the time.... even replaced the thermal paste which was like rubber & was (very heavly applied) 1/4 -1/2 inch off the chip...
It started having issues with frequent errors and beeping from the controller. This is when I replaced the thermal paste with Arctic Silver lV. Everything start was working well for several months then the same issue started again. Eventually the screen started going black sometimes losing sound as well.
If the system is still running like a plane wanting to take off you need to replace the heatsink and or fan also yes the heatsinks can go bad but not all problems are overheating problems and I don't know your ability so I can not say 100% if you are even describing the actual problem correctly. @@airdreams1

Should HDD be set as GPT or MBR? This was not covered in the video. I am following these instructions carefully, but my PS4 consistently fails to load system software.
You are overthinking it, past updates fixed having to do that extra stuff
1. Put HDD on the computer and format it NTFS is fine as long as there is only 1 partition on the HDD you are good GPT if it asks if not just let it do its own thing LOL after that all you need to do is install into your PS4 with USB installation Update.
or 2. you can type in the Command prompt when it opens type [diskpart] then list disk then select that disk by typing select disk # then type the work Clean after that all you need to do is install into your PS4 with USB installation Update.

Sorry if your system is jailbroken and will not update it is likely trash its hard to say there are 100's of reasons for not updating.

Yes you need to remove everything on that drive
Step 1. Before you connect it to your computer open the command prompt type in: diskpart then [enter], then type in: list disk [enter] take note of what drives are in your computer
Step 2. type exit [enter]
Step 3. Connect your disk drive to a USB with a SATA USB converter if you do not have one you can connect it to an available SATA connection but shut off the computer before you do then turn it back on.
Step 4. open the command prompt and type in: diskpart [enter] then type in: list disk [enter] then select disk # [enter] NOTE: the # is of the disk that you are going to use for the PS after it says that disk is selected type in: Clean [enter] it will say the drive was cleaned type in: exit [enter]
Step 5. remove the drive and install it into the PS4 and all will be good.

Does formatting the new HDD as NTFS actually work? I've read the ps4 doesn't support NTFS.
I have installed 10,000+ formatting to NTFS will work 100% Every single time but you should know that no format at all will work as well just not as good if you use an old drive you need to clear all old information off the drive by way of diskpart that will remove everything including its formating I do recommend formating it to NTFS after even if the PS4 will do the work it seems to work better if it is formated but you do need to be formating the drive to ensure there is no close drivers or other programs that can interfere with the system or its install.

I formatted it but it didn't pop up the wizard it just ask ntfs and I changed name to new volume. But the drive is still in partitions it's a seagate st20000lm007 2tb
on your computer [without] the SSD/HDD attached open the command prompt, type in: "diskpart" tell the computer yes when it asks if you want to, then type in: "list disk" make a note about all your computer drives then type exit.
hook up the drive you wish to use for the game system open the command prompt, type in: "diskpart" hit enter tell the computer yes when it asks if you want to, then type in: "list disk" hit enter and locate the Disk that will be your game system drive it will be labeled disk 1,2,3 or 4 depending on the number of drives you have in your computer type in "select disk #" NOTE: #= your disk number for the game drive! hit enter it will say disk selected then all you need to do is type "clean" and hit enter then everything in that drive will be gone exit out of everything and format the disk with a single partition or whatever you like and you are good to go.

Trust me the ps4 harddrive format it with ntfs structure wipe it clean remove and use a fat32 formatted usb stick with the 1gb update file to do a clean install not the 500mb file because the ps4 hard is empty and needs a software install from scratch

All I did was activate it on Windows and didnt do any formatting, after I activated it, I stuck it in the PS4 and then got the reinstall software on USB and let it do its thing. it worked.

you are formatting it to use on a PC using this video, but it will also help you remove formating that was in it previously that may interfere with installing it back into a PS so you can leave it as-is for a PC or hook it back to a new PS and reinstall it, whatever you wish to do.

Even if it will work you are not going to want to do that the drive is way too small and you will be lucky if you get 1 game on it, you need a minimum of 500G

You can take your old PS4 HDD and put it in a slim or even a Pro system
You can also use your old laptop 2.5 SATA HDD and use it in any PS4 you only need to get rid of old programs first to prevent problems.

sounds like you installed a drive that is bad did you test it before installing it?
I removed the link to that video sorry but there are lots of reasons for that it is impossible to tell what is going on without going inside the system, I think if everything is working it would be best to properly clean out the system and leave well enough alone. take advantage of the online backup just to be safe and if it ever quits as long as you are taking it to a qualified shop they will be able to repair it.
It is a good possibility the used replacement HDD is in the process of failing but without testing it you can not say if it is the hard drive or something else if the system is slow and or glitchy I would have the HDD tested.

@@ThePlatinumVault You Can not install a new HDD into your Xbox One S, X, or other, and then after fixing an old HDD putting the old HDD back in the system simply will not work. You Don't have to take my word for it but you will eventually find out the hard way that you will spend a lot of money trying to fix the old HDD only to find yourself in the same boat to lose everything anyway.
If you scanned the HDD with the program I sent you and all is green you can start the system in safe mode and delete only the account there will be an option to keep all your games. But if you can not start your system in safe mode then delete only the account you already lost everything.

your data was in the old HDD not in the game system so replacing the HDD means all offline content is lost, if you did not back it up at one time or another before?
if the HDD is brand new you do not need to format the HDD, but if it is used HDD you should.
install the HDD into the system and plug in the USB with the installation update you will need your controller plugged in with its USB connected to the controller and the system follow the onscreen directions and you will be back up and running. Unless your problem was not the hard drive.
@@ClovisX it's a western digital. I was told it was new but I could have been lied to. And the issue with that one is that say if power is cut. When I turn it back on after it would ask me to reinitlaize the ps4 as it cant start. That's why I couldnt use it. I was also told that if I format that one and then install the ps4 software onto it then it should work fine. My original ps4 jard drive gave me it's own share of problems. Data corrupted. Cannot start application. Overheating

Clean the system out get the dust out between the fan and heat sink most important, if it still overheats after the cleanout then and only then replace the thermal paste, Cleanouts should be every 6 months or less no matter what the thermal past only needs to be replaced once if it dried out after replacement and proper maintenance it will last 15 to 20 years if properly keep clean. Yes the HDD in your system is no different but you need to use a 500G 1T or 2T max in the game system anything in-between will likly end in the majority of memory being wasted leading to extremely low memory in the system.

A PS4 Drive will not show on the computer but it will show on disk management so it is likely bad and will need to be replaced if you have another hard drive you can hook to your computer to see if it shows you will know the other is, in fact, bad if the other shows up. exactly the same way as I show you hear you will need a USB to SATA converter if you have C-USB ports you may need to get a C-USB to SATA or C-USB to USB then plug that into USB to SATA.

you can install an SSD in the system but not every SSD will work if your SSD will not work using this video your SSD is bad or is not the correct type and you need to find another HDD or SSD that will work
