the main reason the nuke scene was so impactful, was because they correctly betted that their main audience were taking everything at face value. Also we shouldn't discount the fact that a lot of younger people were playing and young people aren't exactly known for observing subtle details especially in an era where games were seen by most as entertainment and having a good story was usually luck not intention

My parents did not let me play it until much later, but I remember sneaking upstairs to my cousin's XBox - seeing the Crew Expendable mission at the young age of 10 and was COMPLETELY enthralled. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I am very glad I did not play it at that age, as I would not have been able to grasp the subtleties and implications of the story.

Last year, the remastered version was free for PS+, so I downloaded it and played it all again... only to feel genuinely disturbed by Death From Above. You can watch enemies panic and try to take cover in vain, and the only separation between good guys and bad guys is “blinky guys good, not-blinky guys bad.” Everyone looks the same and it makes you feel the absurdity of war and American intervention.

I wasn't at Raven yet at the time MWR was being worked on but Andy Bayless, Mark Kilborn and the other sound designers who worked on MWR did an amazing job.

    I played CoD4 on release when I was 17.
The aerial bombardment mission for me was arcade-y and didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all. It was simply a "shoot the thing on the screen" mission.
Replaying it at 29 years old it definitely does make me feel a bit uncomfortable as it perfectly captures how impersonal war can get. In a world where drone strikes controlled by UAV pilots half a world away are commonplace, I can't help but wonder about the impact such things has on the psychology of those pilots. The knowledge that that's a real person, but it's not an immediate kill or be killed situation.

I've first played this game in 2010 I think, so I propably was 16 at the time.
Guess what 2010 happened? Chelsea (former Bradley) Manning leaked "collateral Murder" to Wikileaks and man, that was huge.
I know, there were actual goals in this mission, and of course, those were totally 110% only bad guys, for sure, and of course, the devs couldn't have known it, since it happened in 2007 and got leaked in 2010, but MAN, as I played it, it kinda felt like I was replaying the casual murder streak the US Military was doing back then.
And just by playing war crimes (altough they weren't in the game), I got some strong anti war vibes from playing it.
As far as stress and all goes.... Seems like most soldiers for some reason don't have a huge problem with killing people. It kinda is their job, and the Enemy is just that - the enemy - completely dehumanised, barely more then a (dangerous) moving target out of cardboard at the shooting range. Wich is made also very clear by seing collateral murder - just casually killing civilians, like it was some fun leisure activity for the whole family to enjoy.

the AC-130 scene was eerie in it's accuracy; I had seen actual video of real-life missions while in Iraq. hell, an ac-130 mission had happened in my sector and one of our platoons had to go out and survey the aftermath. shit was very realistic when I first played it.

It's crazy, I never had the notification for this video being uploaded... damn CZcams!
Got to say Raycevick, your one of my go-to content uploaders. Positive, good quality and not cut and paste content... it's top-notch.
Why am I commenting on this one? Few reasons. COD4 is VERY special to me. At the time of its release, I was in the army myself (British). It was the first MP game I really got into even though I had been a fan of COD since the first title. When this one released it was like a perfect storm.
Long story short, I got into it so much I started a clan (CRIIIIINGE). I had a bunch of disposable income, being in the army at the time it would have only been spent on beer, hookers, or adventures to (mostly) legally blow things up. So I started a dedicated server, the best money could buy. It became one of the top 3 PC based servers in the world, constantly full and the team grew huge.
Being one of the last dedicated server games going (WAW was too broken on MP to populate) it was popular for years, in fact to this day, the team (/Clan (CRIIIIINGE)) is still going and considering how old it is, still manages to keep populated, although I have nothing to do with it now, so can't take credit.
I did the Promod and custom servers too, ran pretty much all of those mods you showed, plus many more,. I could talk for days on what was possible and not, it was amazing to have a player base and technology for an entire community to do whatever we wanted for a giggle.
Now with the P2P MP stuff, loot drops and "skins" etc, I just cant do COD anymore. It lost the whole community thing that made that game so special with dedicated servers. Logging onto a 54 player server and know 40 of them as if they was all your personal friends with a few randos thrown in to make it interesting. But its all gone now... boooooooo!
Well, just wanna put it out there mate. I know what it's like on the other side of the YT thing and I know exactly what you're talking about in the last 5 mins of the vid. Sorry, this such a late comment, but hey... that's YT for ya!
I have always wanted to do something with a dedicated server in a modern setup. Try to get some of that community things back. Having a YT presence is one of the few times it makes it possible. Having an entire community the chance to come together and play a classic together... however you want... would be interesting what could be done.
Anyways, enough of the rambles mate, cheers for the upload, all the best and hope to see if I missed any more gems. Cheers!

When I played CoD Modern Warfare (2019) own a friends PC it felt like a great Call of Duty,
but merely an average game. It´s way better than previous titles (Ghosts, BO 3, etc.), but many (typical) elements disturbed me:
      -immersion-breaking cutscenes
      -stupid kill-triggers & scripts
-rather poor visual optimisation & performance on the PC
-gunplay: shoot enemy - getting shot at and wounded - take cover - regenerate - repeat
The campaign was good enough, the multiplayer wasn´t really my taste since I´m not a fan of the run & gun, aim down sight & hold trigger until enemy is dead gameplay.
      Not worth 60 €, I´m glad I didn´t buy it myself.

It's because it glorifies the operators in a positive light too much. You can't raise the question of "Where do we draw the line at, Sir?" And expect to get any kind of serious reaction from the player if you don't fully commit to making your characters the kinds of people you could ask those questions about. For a rough example, in the interrogation scene right before that line is spoken, it would have hit so much harder if Price or one of your comrades had actually done something borderline psycho like shooting The Butcher's wife or son. Then, Garrick would have gotten a better response from the audience for asking that question, whom would likely be asking the same thing.
They can't do crazy things like that, however, because Price is supposed to be a marketing ploy for Activision. Something to put on the box to draw people in. It doesn't full commit to its themes, unlike the original Modern Warfare or, say, Spec Ops: The Line.

At the end, upon my first time playing , I felt heartbroken knowing I was the lone survivor of that final mission, watching comrades fall. It struck a cord as victory really came at a cost. MW1, is definitely an Anti-War game. The soundtrack is also brilliant. It catches the essence of everything so well. What an experience, absolutely unforgettable.
