I Owned and piloted a 1959 Cessna 172-- N7117T for 5 years and 1200 hours in 1974-1979-loved her. Bought a 1959 Cessna 182-- N7159E change to N43LW, 1979-2006(27) years & 2300 hours. Lost medical ( a-fib) so had to sell her--broke my heart. Used them in my ranching business and they were perfect for that. Checking on wildlife, livestock ,windmills, water tanks, water troughs, fences, water pipelines and trespassers .All low & slow flying. Landing and taking off of typical S. W. Texas KDRT (Rio Grande, Pecos and Devils River area) dirt ranch runways, rough and short. Both planes are better performers than any new same make Cessna today. Thanks for the Beautiful video-many memories!

I was hooked the second we left the ground. Got my ticket at airborne systems at FXE. In A 172 5229 R and 6101F this was the plane I took my check ride in. That was 2001. There is no way to explain how you feel every time you leave the ground heading to wherever.

I’m 70 now but I can still remember that moment when my instructor and I made a pass in the pattern, landed and he got out. My first solo of 91j was nothing short of euphoric. That’s just the beginning of learning and it never ends. Good luck.

Not really. You can start flying for the price of a used car or less. Most CFI’s would charge about $20 per hour and you need 40 hours. There’s always the poor mans way with experimental. Ultra light. Just need a valid drivers license and a teacher. And maybe insurance. Fun cheap flying and a way to feel what it’s like to take off and land.
