What a beautiful car. New petrol 3 series are almost 50 000 euro in Europe lol.
This is why competition is so important. China is making such good cars that Euro makers are now stressed and want to lower prices to remain competitive.
We europeans will have to pay for the discounts given in China, and when China wants to offer us a cheap EV, the union kicks in and puts tariffs over these cars, anyhow where screwed whatever we do. Only thing left is to boycot these unfair practices, i’ll be keeping my old car thats for sure.
Na, they will call it “over capacity” and prevent it from reaching yall folks
Funny thing is petrol versions of bmw are also heavily discounted. If my memory serves me, you can have the new 5 series petrol for less than 40k euro.
In India it’s $60-70k
no VAT, no pollution regulation, no fair labor regulation, ... easy to get to 24k euro
interesting that you think a bare interior with no real design is ahead of the BMW. I’d pick the BMW interior every single time. Same with the exterior.
Yes and most Chinese evs look the same. Inside more than outside
That's not what Chinese buyers really care about the zeeka is completely designed for Chinese buyers while the bmw can't really afford to do that for just a Chinese market car
He is a Chinese reviewing Chinese Cars. CCP will fuck his ass otherwise
Wow this is just sad for us germans. The i3 starts at 40k €, which is by no means comparable to this electric 3 series. We are so behind
This isn't the 3 series you know not even close .
Quality is no more than a VW golf
In china for years a good brand badge sold just for face .
They sold with bad quality, low equipment and weak engines

They are definitely not selling at a loss. So the profit margins are insanely high
Yep, if they can make profit from this 24k bmw, why the hell they sell it double price in other countries
@@oubihiotman3673 because they can people buy it happily at that price
Some of our companies do sell at a loss, but those successful ones are mostly making money. In a free market, some companies make profit, some don't, simple as that.
@@mingshili9769 absolutely no way bmw is selling at a loss... Thats not how business works.. there are some exceptions buts that only in tech where there is massive room to growth
Labor labor labor, this is one of the most expensive aspects of manufacturing and Chinese labor is insanely cheap
Meanwhile in the US, people can only get a Honda Civic with 24k Euro .
Which is far better than this BMW in every aspect.
@@alfonsotatto8365 Yea. So much better that only people like you deserve it😉
@@alfonsotatto8365what? I drive a Volkswagen because I cannot afford a BMW. Honda is only more reliable than BMW but BMW is much cooler, faster and better looking.
You can get a Nissan Versa for 18k,amazing Deal!Or how about you go to China and work for $5 a House?
@@BrunoHeggli-zp3nl Bravo for comparing Nissan Versa with BMW 3series. FYI, The workers in the car factories in China can afford those entry level cars they build, if not the mid-tier ones. And unlike the US, $5 is enough for three meals in China. How about you go to China and take a look yourself? Or are you too poor to afford an international flight ticket?
Do Europeans and Americans experience heartbreak? Why doesn't the Chinese government impose taxes on these affordable German EVs?
Lmao so much ignorance! As usual
They do they absolutely do over a 100%
This isn't BMW the one from Bavaria!
This is a Chinese BMW
50-50 joint venture
BMW by name and design
Chinese by anything else from materials to manufacturing to engines / electric platforms
So this is a Chinese car !
If it wasn't it would pay 100+% import tax
Because it's a loser in a competitive market, and in China there are too many better competitors at this price point😂
because CHINESE GOV just wants his people to have good Cars at good prices.
China should tax the European cars. As a European I am ashamed that we voted for the import tax.

The 3 series interior looks WAY better than the other car……… like so much better omg
I checked the price of a Zeekr 007 or whatever and it starts at 60k in germany😂😂
You got to import these yourself.
Go get one in China and drive it till here in Europe. Cheap deal 😅
For imports you always ad VAT+import duty. In EU usually 20%+10% or more depending on country...

I’m so glad other car manufacturers are giving some competition to Tesla. For a while, Tesla thought they had a monopoly on EVs and thought it could sell the $45K Model 3 as the “affordable” Tesla!
Traditional car still doesn't have a competitor for Model 3 though... A 3-series EV is still maybe 2 years away lol...
The basic model here in China priced at RMB215900/27525Euro, and Max version RMB299900/38234Euro.
And Tesla Model 3, basic Model, RMB231900/29564Euro, and Performance Version RMB335900/42823Euro.
BMW i3, MSRP RMB353900/45118Euro, while the actual market price is 50% of it, RMB170000~180000/21673Euro, you could see EU legcy EVs are so overpriced that they look desperate in Chinese market. Even so, in June 2024, i3 sold 6952, Model 3 sold 18151, Model Y41110, SU7 14296.
The whole EV car in China costs less as what my local Audi dealer here in Germany asked for repairing my Audi e-tron. they said I had to pay €26k to replace the front motor (damaged) and two destroyed battery modules. By fault of the EV control box during heavy raining. No battery guarantee, no other warranty. ridicolous. that and how Audi handles the burning cars (same as Porsche Taycan) and problems with the LG battery packs (recall, worldwide) with limited state of charge to 80% in terms of safety, will crush the whole VAG EV dreams.
Chineese people make much less money per month than you make in month, so it is still cheaper for you to buy car for 50k than for chineese person to buy car for 24k, you will make this money much faster than chineese person
@@biznesmen9229Who the hell can even buy a new car out of pocket? Businesses, criminals, sure, but you need to have some very wrong values to save tens of thousands and waste them on a new car.
I cant speak chinese..so just use translator;)
it doesn't quite work that way, if a German buys a Chinese electric car for 30k eur (price after various taxes + delivery to the EU) he will just send 25/26k to China, 4-5k is left for some taxes or seller fee
But if he buys a German car for 30k eur then:
China will probably earn 5-7k on various required components (batteries etc. which are worth importing from China)
The rest will be manufactured in the EU, such as sheet metal, other electronics, software, this is another 5-7k
Now they assemble this car German machines + German workers, who for each car probably get around 1/2k eur
Of course for transport around the EU again the EU will get the money, not China, here for one car it will probably also be around 2-3k eur (importing parts, and shipping cars to the world/EU)
Taxes also come in along the way (again Germany/EU), adding up all what you will have to pay for one car is probably around 5k eur, then there is still a seller fee of around 1/2k eur (again it stays in Germany/EU) and the remaining profit for the German company for further development is the remaining profit of 4-6k from selling the car
I probably skipped many stages, but during them the EU will earn and benefit from it, not China
Of course if the car is more expensive, these numbers will be higher, more money will stay in the EU/Germany, money that will be taxed many times along the way, will support many businesses, many companies, and the taxes themselves will allow for the construction of things for public use, so no, it is not better for consumers

I wish we had those cars in Portugal, insane value.
pre-pandemic is a great description
When you are ass, and you don’t mind that from your country came Virus
Not quite, the model 3 began the trend pre pandemic, also the current bmw screen layout is post pandemic. Post pandemic we began to see more single big screen or two or more screen under one panel of glass.
the BMW looks way better.
Chinese EV’s advantage is brought by the full industry ability of China so no country can replicate it at the moment. Maybe India in the future but at least for now, rejecting Chinese EV is rejecting near future auto technology with much more affordable price.
Medium and long term Industrial and Economic planning, instead of short term profiteering and inflation that we're suffering in europe
Let me tell a joke :indea industry...... LOL
If you follow the recent weather in India, a large portion of Indian land is unsuitable for energy-intensive industrial production for long part of the year. This objective factor constrains its industrial production from reaching the level of China's, and note that the human and national planning level factors are also completely ignored here.

Just stumbled on your channel and enjoying it! As you build up a catalog of videos, would you consider featuring the Chinese market Porsche Boxster Spyder (2.0, 4-cylinder)? Information about this car is so illusive in the US.
Excellent video, very detailed and insightful look into why the Chinese EV market is in an astonishing place right now
Feels like an act of desperation from the traditional auto makers. Just goes to show, its not just about being an EV, its more about bringing more capable and sophisticated tech to the table.
In a few more years, Chinese cars are going to be even more technologically advanced, and the herd will be thinner. A lot thinner.
Do you think this is the peak for a european EV?
This an afterthought for BMW that they can sell for cheap on a cheap, oversaturated market.
@@CyAn-S They're probably losing money on this.
I think European brands will have better EVs in the future, but EVs designed and built in China with a Euro brand label slapped on.
It doesn't feel like they're nimble and fast enough to create competitive EVs on their own right now.
@@nicolamastascusa8173 No you think wrongly. EVs will be more and more be made outside of China. If you did not catch the memo, Europe and China are not exactly the best friends right now.
You are speaking facts, for the used car market in China every dealer is drowning, their inventory depreciated so fast, brand new cars come out every months are cheaper and better.😂
@@CyAn-Syou are right, they will be made by Chinese own factories in Thailand and Mexico, right next to Toyota and Honda 😂
Is it just me or the numbers and just not adding up? The car is 110 pounds heavier than the BMW with a 75kwh vs 70kwh but yet it achieves more range, not just more significantly more range. I would like to see real world testing on this car any videos suggestions anyone
the key difference is the electric 3 series was base on the ICE version, it was adopt to EV but never design to be. On the other hand, pure EV nowdays uses battery frame as part of their chassis which cut a bit weight.
Battery chemistry information is missing. A big influence in range.
You forgot to factor in coefficient of drag, makes a lot of difference and is probably why the Zeekr is more efficient
Awesome review 👍
Great review man. I’m subscribed
Fantastic insight, let the world know what is going on
At first i thought 'wow! That's a steal!' and then you showed me the Zeekr 007. To me, the current gen 3 series is still the best looking saloon in the market (head to head with the Alfa Romeo Giulia) and the interior still look awesome (definitely more useful than the new buttonless design on the new gen X3) but the spec of 007 are miles ahead of the 3 series.
not really, the actual range of Zeekr 007 is very disappointing, just like their another model Zeekr 001
Kia Stinger looks even more slick. and i prefer the 4 series / audi 5
how can bmw do this economies wise?
are cars so much cheaper to produce or?
Does zeeker have the same safety checks?
Came back to hit a like on the video, that I had forgotten to do!
Thanks for the interesting topic and well-explained apples-to-apples comparison. I agree that this isn't likely to occur in any other country, but it should.
Oddly, I'm pleased that the legacy brands have been caught "Flat-footed" and must employ tactics such as protectionism to slow the inevitable. It's well documented how, in the early 90's, the U.S. allowed Chevrolet to actively delay the onset of EVs to bolster its profit from ICE vehicles. Like America's big three automotive manufacturers, European brands were happy to keep polluting the environment to maintain their hold on the market. China has proven along many industry fronts that competition, not protectionism, is the key to achieving innovation competencies and dominance. Though it pains me to say it, the nascent shift amongst economies is a necessary wake-up call for the countries engaging in protectionism, whether by the term overcapacity, national security, or the claim of unfair subsidies.
Sean, I guess the cut-throat rivalry occurring in China left BMW with no option but to adapt to the price war.
No way it costs 24k😮
So glad I found this video. *No force on earth or heaven could get me to buy a BMW again* (here in Europe).
excellent review and comparison
I always wondered about chineese auto market since there are so many interesting and different cars. Great concept 👍👍
The reason why European cars are not as autonomous, is because it is simply not allowed here anyway. Besides Chinese autonomous driving is only on pre-mapped roads. Meanwhile the Chinese cars that do come to here to Europe have some of the worst, least reliable and shaky lane keep systems on our market...
This BMW rides on a platform that is from 2018... well there you go. This is essentially a 2018 BMW with some bargain basement battery that BMW found somewhere 😂. This is basically their worst EV on the market right now. Even in the EU they don't sell this.
Chinese car are going to pre-map-free self driving this year, HUAWEI already released this feature to all of their customer and Xpeng, Li Auto, NIO is following in this year.
The BMW 5 series is doing autonomous driving hands free 130 kmh and in Europe with much more regulation
@@Marcel.fjj5bdb The 'autonomous driving ' in china at lease include the ability to go on/off the highway ramp/exit or transfer between the highway, not along driving in city nation-wide, as long as the navigation works (Huawei, Li, Xpeng already publish the software with these abilities to car owners). Didn't find any video about BMW can do this or I didn't search enough.
@@Marcel.fjj5bdbThe Mustang MachE was the first if I'm not mistaken to have full self driving allowed like a Tesla in the US. But it's only in a few countries such as Germany and Spain
As per snapshot this is BMW's current 3 series (facelift G20, in this case a long wheelbase EV) model. Oh, and it's not a basement battery, it's seems to be the same 70 kWh battery used in the i4 eDrive 35. I don't like BMW as well as I don't like a certain style.
This looks good and is electric? BMW to the german market: You will never have this hahaha
They are targeting something for 2026 😂😂
This is a good electric 3-Series.
It's clearly struggling to be competitive with vehicles like Zeekr's 007 since it looks quite outdated and the tech is not so great.
Very intriguing video!
The car producers need a kick in the rear to innovate. Is the German industry in trouble? Yes. But by concluding it is done, I think people underestimate the industries capabilities.
The BMW 3 series does have pretty darn good voice command w I drive 8 you can put the windows down etc I agree that certain features can be annoying but wanted to correct that in the review thank you for sharing!
Is this a genuine M Sport package model? This car doesn’t have an electrochromatic rear view mirror… very weird
Where did you get the €24K price tag from? BMW’s Chinese website shows a €46K starting price for the i3.
Nobody in China buys these cars according to the official website price tag. FYI a Volvo S90 "should" be 300k+ RMB(~39k euro) but I can get it at around 230k+ from the seller, and that was a few years ago so I reckon the difference only gets bigger due to the fierce price war. The company surely knows the situation and has to give implicit consent otherwise they can't sell shit at the price they set officially.

dealer's price is lower than the official website price, otherwise no one would buy it

Cool video, fyi though the i3 isn't China only market. It is also sold in Lao, Cambodia, Egypt and Uzbekistan and possibly elsewhere but definitely in these places.
This is how BMW should do i3 in Europe, love it❤
Where can I buy it in China? On bmw official site it shows 353k CNY which is 48k USD.
Ask any dealer in China, price of official site is bullshit.

They care more about China for some reason
They care more about china because china subsidizes a portion of the manufacturers price to the consumers. I remember working on a case study back in 2021 that addressed chinas subsidization of NEV

Some people don't like all the software assistance, mazda3 cars with automatic emergency breaking are randomly breaking while seeing shadows and have been recalled. Some people prefer having full manual control over their vehicles, without any potential for software to interfere.
I was thinking just today why BMW is not selling cheaper electric sedans... they are no competition for Tesla at the moment
Can we export it from China? to EU
Great video and hoping for future with competition to come asap here in Europe. I only disagree with one observation, BMW interior today looks worse than prepandemic, the interior for Zeeks looks like Tesla clone which is empty, without soul and many times unpractical. In my opinion should only be in low budget cars. No buttons, therefore you are less of a driver but more laptop operator. Look Porsche 911 2024 interior, screen is integrated as it should be and buttons which you can operate and feel directly (not voice or searching on screen) are worth a gold.
It's bit odd as 10-15 years ago chinese cars were more or less like a joke and now they are making great EV's and then there are these special chinese market editions like that normal looking bmw. You could sell those dozens everyday whit that price.
Would choose the BMW for sure, even for more money
450km wltp is too short range for a bmw.. just get a regular 330Li
What is the purchase tax (sales tax) in China on both of these cars?
EV is tax free yeah even for BMW
tax is included for every country except the US, and in china the on road cost is also included I think
In China, the hybrids and the EVs are tax-free till the end of 2024 by now. Further tax policy is not posted yet.

That's crazy :o
But the ADAS are actually top nodge in BMW, maybe they are not offered in China right now. But look to the US and Europe, where BMW offers the highest autonomy class on the market right now. Together with Mercedes BMW is the first OEM to offer Level 3 autonomy in a series vehicle. So they are not behind in terms of software, just not offering it in the chines market probably.
If they sell that car for 24 k euro I could live without lvl 3 software I can drive car I dont need any software but I do need prices I can pay

Two things...Large market and secondly labour cost is low...not in Europe when each worker is paid 15 to 20 euros per hour ...if it takes 20 worker 3 days and the work 8 hours you will see why it gets expensive..and each worker from marketing to accountants and human resources have to be paid so the car has to be expensive ...
How much would it cost to bring one to Europe (Montenegro)?
VW sued a dealer in Europe earlier this year for importing the ID6 from China to Europe.
how
I fear for the whole automotive industry. Solely because of Tesla and Chinese brands start to "revolutionize" the design of exterior and interior, it isn't the practical way of doing so. Everyone want's to have that fresh looks only to find out that it is just inpractical. The "pre-pandamic" design of the 3 series (here we already see the lack of different buttons compared to the pre LCI G20 generation BMW) is very well thought out. Not everyone wants to use a giant touchscreen in the middle of the center console though it looks more modern. Unfortunately function follows form (and the production cost cuts) these days, so in a couple of years, every car will look more or less the same...
Tbf the screen in the lci g20 is pretty damn good. Had one as a loaner for about a month and loved the infotainment(its very fast and good quality unlike a vw or some laggy shit) and personally don't mind not having physical controls for the climate controls. its easy to access and i don't change temperature on it very often anyways. also prefer the smaller gear selector. Only thing i don't like is that it looks a bit out of place - you can tell it wasn't designed originally to be a big screen (on pre lci) so it just stands on like a stander and that looks super cheap.
Why is the badging not signed properly??
They hiring fired Tesla employees??
My humble opinion: these are not cars, these are appliances. It is normal for the Chinese (who have excelled at electronics and new technologies in the last 30 years or so) to put together some computers and screens on wheels and be able to sell them at low prices. Whereas European manufacturers like BMW for example who have been building real cars for decades and they did it from passion (and excelled at ICE and driving performance) are not as good at producing appliances in such a short period of time.
I am not surprised considering that Toyota Camry is pushed down to 16k USD now. 24k EURO is still way expensive than it should be
We should get the longer wheelbase variants in Europe.
Thing is aerodynamics dictate the looks of the zeeker, so it looks like an EQS EQE, Lucid Air, you name it.
I drove a 3 Series 6 Years, other cars inbetween and now a Model 3 that will be driven for at least a decade guess.
What I’m trying to say is. Enjoy cars having distinctiveness as long as it lasts. Because like Cellphones where playful in the 2000s since mid 2010s they all look the same and thats what happens with cars too
Ppl are dreaming if they think the price remained the same when selling in Europe.
🤣🤣🤣
But they don't even offer a 3-series EV in Europe. 😂 If they sold it in Europe it would cost at least VAT and duties worth more. Not much taxes in China on EVs, so that explains a lot of the price difference.
The Zeekr looks like a Crown with a Tesla looking center screen
Power of competition
China needs to up the ante to counter EU/UK/US tariffs. We want to buy these Chinese cars

I feel sorry for those who bought this BMW before the price cut. Their resale value has now fallen off a cliff.
Is it truth that North American union protectionism is the real root of the tariffs against cheaper imports?
It is all just politics. Presidential election needs those votes in the car states, so Biden did the tariffs. But it is just a part of the decision.
That's an excuse to bash the union. Per usual, the boss takes most of the profits and workers get bread crumbs.
@@cuspcham It’s the union who issued statement against EV imports, though. The UAW, which is also a key political force for anyone running for president in the upcoming election.
UAW also issued statement back in the 80s against Japanese car imports that was cutting the market share of the Big 3.
How much to import?
I suspect that this 3 series BEV is build in China. This would largely explain the price.
Of course it is. Only the most expensive Western made cars are imports in China.
yeah but the zeekr is far more prone to just exploding for no good reason and the build quality cannot even be comparable
we got that in melbourne
When he said “pre-pandemic” I lost it 😂
That zeekr 007 looks beautiful
I would still choose the BMW even if the prices were swapped, the Zeekr might have the better statistics but it just doesn’t look good. The BMW still looks like a car, outside and inside.
Do you really think zeekr charges 2x fastes. I don't think so. Don't talk what you have not confirmed.
Zeekr supports 500kw plus charging speed. It can charge from 10%-80% in 11 minutes. It's been already demonstrated using zeekr chargers.
