Sync 2 to Sync 3 Upgrade! Install and Review on 2013 - 2016 F250 plus Wireless Apple CarPlay

- This mod is the best "convenience" mod that anyone can do to a vehicle that has Sync 2. It allows you to utilize Fords upgraded software for entertainment and use Sync 3 which is used in 2017 - 2022+ vehicles.
This install was in a 2016 F250 Lariat, and was very simple. Took about an hour and a half with recording and explaining everything. Anyone with simple tools can do this upgrade in their driveway. I have been using the Sync 3 now for a couple of months with no problems, and I can say that when driving in larger cities and using Apple or Google maps it helps a lot.

I would say the Sync 3 upgrade by itself would have a 10/10 rating, and the Ottocast would have an 8/10 as sometimes you have to unplug it and reset it, but this is not a big deal.

I'm considering upgrading my Sync2 to anything that could handle Android Auto with the preference of running Waze, and Sync3 is one of the options besides Tesla-style screens, which, based on my research, could be more reliable and have lots of issues.
Glad the video could help you on your decision! I have seen very many bad reviews on the Tesla style screen. I have also heard of people switching from the Sync 2 to the Tesla and then to the Sync 3 merely because of quality and the amount of glitches. I can vouch for the Sync 3 and will say that it has been great! 10/10 do recommend
I appreciate this video, Im looking at upgrading my Ford Fusion to sync 3 and was wondering how your system is holding up a couple months later. I also am confused why the guy you used is significantly cheaper then other companies with all things included? I trust that he does a good job just want to make sure everything is reliable and works well.

I 100% recommend going to the guy that I bought everything from. I am on a F250 page and everyone recommends him, including myself. As for why he is cheaper, I am not sure. Although - as shown in the video all of the parts are genuine Ford parts. I hope that helps!

Does yours show the inside climate temps when on the home screen or any other screen besides the climate screen?
Hi Kory, thanks for the comment! It shows climate on the home screen as well as the climate screen if I am not mistaken. It does not show it on apple car play or any other screen. That is one feature that you lose compared to the Sync 2 version
I’m considering this. I have read that you lose the use of your manual climate control knobs/buttons. Anyone know if that’s true? Thanks for the video!

Would this kit work for a 2012 with sync2 touch ? Would like to get CarPlay
MyFordTouch/SYNC 2 does not have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The first SYNC system to feature CarPlay/AA is SYNC 3.
Your truck does not have the Rear or Forward cameras? Mine does, will they still work?
My truck has a reverse camera in it, yes. As far as a front facing camera I was not aware these came with one so I am not 100% sure to be honest. The reverse camera does work correctly. @@NRCThings Hey, quick response, Thanks. I have SYNC2 with factory rear camera, 4 years ago added a front camera (at a shop), they both work great with the SYNC 2 factory setup. This week I will install the SYNC3 per your video, but did not see you connecting the rear camera...?! Great video!!

Do heated/cooled seats still work?
They do i ordered my sync from the same guy he has the link set up for and i just installed mine last night and everything works as it should my old sync 2 screen quit working so i couldn't use it but now i have full features

It handles AM, FM, SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, and regular blue tooth as sources of audio. Now that i’ve been using it for a few months I realize I should’ve made the switch sooner. Hope that helps! The guy that I mentioned in the description was a tremendous amount of help with supplying everything and answering questions also!
