When i run Re-Rock on a driveway i put on the Skid shoes on and push the gravel out at depth. (reverse blade like you do.) Something like 2". Then back drag the bucket going backwards. Works Great! nice and clean and compacted.

Excellent advice on how to set up, work backwards, and work from level surface to stabilize the back end. I use a box scraper rather than blade, but works the same way. However, I avoid 90% of the work, by having the truck spread the rock. I not only order the rock, but I also specify the driver - has to be good at spreading. A good driver can spread better than you can place by the bucket load. I have them leave a small pile, which I then work to fill in along the edges, etc. Really enjoy your videos. Merry Christmas and get both a Christmas tree and a good pair of gloves. From the great Northwest and plenty of rain and mud.

Good video. I never comment on your videos, and know you mentioned not liking clean stone in another video... but hear me out. That particular area was a perfect candidate for clean 1B stone. Many people dislike it because they put too much down and it makes a mess--- or they use 2B which is too big and marbles around--- BUT on a base like that, just a tiny sprinkle of 1B clean stone will make it so much nicer looking and eliminate tracking all the dust. I moved into a home on a semi private lane where everyone loved that dirty crushed stuff- I had to bed and plead my case to use clean stone (they caved because I was so relentless, and was the guy with the tractor, lol) and now everyone is happier with their cleaner cars and garages. You seem set in your ways- not a bad thing- but perhaps consider my point. Nice vids!

Yeah Mike, if you have a gravel driveway (I have 1600 ft.), a blade is a must. I have rarely used a box blade on mine. Only if the truck driver leaves humps. I've learned it takes a special touch (as you have) with a blade. Good job on your driveway. After a few years of using what we call "crusher run", (1 1/2 to dust), I put a coating of 1/2 to 3/4 clean rock down. This seems to lessen the soupy gray slurry after a rain. Enjoy your videos.

Very versatile piece of equipment in my opinion. Of course the real trick with any of it seem to be getting the grade wanted/need -- especially when starting from scratch. Which is something I can't say I've mastered yet, but I'm thinking it's important to start by creating a flat surface to work from, and then work to level the entire area while flattening/leveling everything else. ....of course I could be wrong, never worked construction and just working to figure things out project by project.

When spreading rock, I just use the bucket. You can spread the rock and then back up with the front tires off of the ground and adjust the bucket roll as to how aggressive you are moving rock. A box blade is great for smoothing out and refreshing a drive way. I just put the teeth down an inch or two and have all kinds of loose rock to move around.

'You're gonna see another side of me'. Mike, get a Christmas tree! It's 15th December. My wife put our tree up and decorated the house two weeks ago.
