Fish Dome (Inverted Aquarium) in our Garden Pond

- A quick look at the inverted aquarium / fish dome we installed in the garden pond. This works like a giant upside-down water glass, holding water inside above the level of the pond and allowing fish to swim up and look around the outside world!

This is so nice. The fish look like they enjoy exploring their new world.
*From the fishes' POV, they are FLYING IN MIDWATER!!*
I love this pond DIY project. If I get a pond, I'm doing this.
Love the ducks!
If you already have the problem of bubbles, you can try to add a "plate" larger than the dome under the dome, with space btw to allow fish go inside. It will deviate bubbles (maybe)
For eliminating the air, you could: drill a hole in the very top of the dome; on the outside glue a tube; on the shore end of the tube put a squeeze-bulb or hand vacuum pump. Plus a valve if you want. You can do something involving black tube, solar heating, and check valves which has the advantage that it works automatically.
I like the way it looks now! And usually by the time I need to refill I also need to clean algae
Super cool!!! I grew up with a fish pond, but we never had a fish dome observation lookout!
"...the goose is not very nice." LOL
I wonder how the fish feel about going into a slight vacuum? Theres not much mind to bend but must be a real trip.
I would imagine a hand held vacuum pump with a brake bleeding cup setup and a bent piece of tubing would do the trick it might not be as effective sucking trash out of the doom but I bet that could be accomplished with a modified aquarium gravel vacuum or a small water pump with a filter chamber made out of PVCpipe, a couple of end caps, fittings, screen and tubing
Love it 😍
I love this! Fantastic! What if you just wait until no fish are in the dome, lift and clean it every week, so it's fresh all the time?
I might have to, it definitely grows "stuff" inside. It's a bit of a hassle to do this frequently though!
@@saveitforparts maybe build yourself a mini pool vacuum, with a special hook shaped handle? 😁
@@saveitforparts wait! Idea! What about a small valve in the top to slowly lower the water back down to the pond, and release the vacuum to lift off the water easy? 😁
@@DetroitMicroSound That could be an idea, not sure how to safely add that to the Pyrex dome though!
@@saveitforparts look into drilling tempered glass. Slow process, but it's possible. It should be quite thick, no?
Cut a garden hose to length, put it in there, blow in it to get the water out of the hose then suck the air out.
The vacuum cleaner sucks more than I do 😀
They were probably space helmets built for going to Mars. Contrary to the stupidity of going to Mars (we all saw what happened to Arnie's eyeballs when he smashed his helmet), this is a brilliant idea. Finally the fish can explore our world, like we do theirs. You might even breed some super intelligent fish. Will they take over the world, or work with us in trying to ruin it!? I don't know. So if the fish come up a say something like;"gimme your hands Quade", it's probably best to welcome our new fish overlords, or put down the crack pipe. One or the other...When you look at you yard overall, you can tell it's run by an intelligent, useful person. Thumbs up.
Could you use a peristaltic pump to keep the air bubbles out of the dome?
Possibly, although by the time the bubble gets big it's usually time to empty the dome and clean the algae out of it.
What do you think it looks like from inside the dome (Fish Perspective)?
I'm not sure! I'll have to get (or make) a little camera submarine to find out!
Where did you get the dome?
I got this with some 2nd-hand laboratory glassware at my work. I'm not sure what it was for originally, maybe a vacuum chamber?
Would love to know where you got the dome. Dimensions?
It's approximately 12" diameter and 18" tall I think. I got it with some other surplus laboratory glassware, not sure what it was originally for.
Recently I measured this again and estimated it holds 12 gallons. Still not sure what it's for, maybe a bell jar or vacuum jar?
@saveitforparts Thank you. Sorry I missed in the video where you said where it came from. Found a 16" x14" glass fish bowl on Amazon. Going to borrow your PVC stand idea for sure.
