I think the most disheartening part of the offense's performance is that they don't even look like they need another big bat, they look like they need 3 or 4.
Why can't this organization take accountability. My fear is whoever they bring over, are gonna struggle trying to implement this teams offensive strategy and messaging.
And none of them would be able to hit anymore if they came here.
This is my fear as well. You could bring Soto, Shohei, and Tucker here and they would most likely struggle... -.-
We needed 2-3 bats last year then we got rid of 3 guys replaced them with worse/same level of ability and then people wonder why we still suck and need 2-4 more bats lol if we not gonna admit the players themselves are not that good which they really are not we have to admit its the coachin and approach fault and its been this bad the entire time Scotts been here now its at its absolute worst and nothing will change
Garver should be backup catcher. Send down Seby. Bring up Locklear and have him DH.
Every crappy pitcher seems to have a career day against this offense.
BUT we also seem to generally not do that badly against the league best? it’s kinda weird
@@AzeriaYeah, that's true. We always seem to do well against the pitcher we are "supposed" to struggle with.
@@Michael-id9bw just mariners things i guess 😅
@@Michael-id9bwthe Mariners do well offensively against no one lol
“I know you were never great at math, hear me out.”
Lyle: 😑
😂😂
Haha
They come here and they talk to our hitting coaches and weird "offensive coordinator" and they overthink things and it makes them worse. That's my hypothesis.
Also I feel like the mental aspect and culture is underrated in all this. Not sure how the clubhouse is, but getting traded to the Mariners feels like where offense goes to die.
Feels like we need to give our whole team a Trea Turner standing ovation so that they feel some love and trust. They’re major leaguers, they’re good hitters, just not here. It being T-Mobile park doesn’t help that either I’m sure.
Sometimes I wonder if the platoons, taking away at bats and rhythms that could be developing for these players, is a big part of this? I know Dom isn’t that good on lefty matchups, but is Rojas or Raley? I haven’t checked, but my gut tells me they’d hold up fine. How can players get hot if they’re not getting enough times in the batters box?
They just looked like a team that had already played 13 games in a row, 10 being on the east coast, and had already secured an impressive series win against a hated division rival, and just seemingly looked content with the series win and just let off the gas a bit cuz they’re desperate for a day off.
As far as the team as a whole goes, I’m just praying they can tread water until the all star break, then can come out of the break refreshed and can flip a switch for the second half 🤞🤞🤞
Is it the ballpark, coaching, batter's eye?
It’s the organization.

Do you really think we’ll trade for more new guys and hope for better results, or just hope that the guys we brought in aren’t inexplicably bad?
Teo turned it on 2nd half (last year) maybe the new guys will too!
16:45 in...i dont understand why new environment and park factors would contribute to horrendous swing and miss and strikeouts. They should at least be able to square up the ball and lets remeber half the games arent at T mobile. Its just so frustrating.
When was our last big year for 2B? How long has it been cursed…
Cano in '17
This was the saddest 3-1 series win ive seen in a while. If it wasnt against the Astros I would a lot more upset. They need to make 2 or 3 moves. 2 bats (contact on base high double hitter type guy) and a high leverage bullpen arm. Rooker and an arm from the As? Tanner Scott and a bat from the marlins? Idk
New hitting coach !! Clearly this is not an isolated individual. Too many of our guys are struggling. Why start replacing half the lineup without getting a new hitting coach? Which approach is more cost effective and which approach is likely to solve the problem? To me… no brainer.
Another potential issue? Lack of physical preparedness. They look tired. Not all but a significant number.
Good point TJ. New ballpark for new guys. all the things you just suggested.
New hitting coach doesn’t fix anything this season. They need to focus on fixing what’s happening right now
@@MarineLayerPod I humbly disagree. I believe most of these struggling guys just need a tweak to get them back on track. I don’t know if they can even afford to go shopping with Stanton at the helm. Would you be willing to further explain your quick fix ?
In any other sport the hitting coach would have been gone after last year. You got nothing to lose by getting rid of him and trying someone new. But beyond that it's not just him it's their whole philosophy and approach to offense. The sample size is too huge to not clearly see that it is something systemic.
15:40 that’s also because OPS is a garbage stat that weighs on base and slugging the same, his WOBA is .306.
6:50 in...TJ Mathewson i completely agree!
🫡
Raley should absolutely be playing against lefties more but Scott and Jerry are obsessed with lefty/righty matchups
Scott Servais is a horrible manager.
I was looking back at the trade and what we gave up for Polanco, luckily it’s been pretty even so far with injuries to Desclafani and Topa.
got to watch the nuts last weekend in rancho cucomunga when they came to town and you guys are spot on those guys looked so good and that nuts team will be looked at in a few years. You guys are tons of fun to listen to keep going!
Thanks for watching!
Arighetti was spinning it
It’s true
oh and it’s also worth specifying Polo’s not just ‘not good’ defensively, he’s the 5th worst 2B in baseball
Spaghetti was cooking ngl
Nah it’s the offense that makes every starter look like a Cy Young contender 🤦♂️ 😒
Jorge Lopez dfa'd by the Mets. Should the Mariners claim him and see if they can work their organizational magic on him? I know the dude is an unstable, emotional mess (for very good reason as I understand it), but could the Mariners org help him?
Perhaps!
Hey TJ, are you going to the beaver games?
I’ll be there tonight!
@@MarineLayerPod I have been looking for you, but I don’t see you anywhere. It was a great game though!
Jorge is the best second baseman since Robi Cano?
....maybe we should give him steroids.
They need to cut their losses on Polanco. Unfortunately they wont
Brett Boone's spirit is haunting the position. Gotta find a 2B that can quell Boonie's angry spirit. 😅
Every single hitter in this lineup is abysmal. They all get F’s. And calling them “hitters” is being generous.
It's not about adding more bats they added bats in the off-season they added bats in last year's offseason and the one before that. It's this damn organization's messaging and offensive philosophy. They are up in these hitters heads with their obsession of dominate The zone which you simply cannot do from inside the batter's box. I'm tired of people defending these coaches and this organization when it comes to this because they certainly pat themselves on the back when it comes to their pitching and rightly so. Dtz works brilliantly from the mound and is a colossal failure from inside the box. It is time to implement a completely new strategy Jared Dehart needs to go. He has done nothing to help this team. They need a drastic and sudden new approach.
THIS. This is what I’ve been saying. It’s an organizational issue.
Other teams who play us at home dont have problems hitting. Ichiro Boone Griffey Olereud Dan Wilson Cameron Cirillo Edgar Randy Winn Ibanez none of them ever had problems hitting here. Think its time to stop blaming the its our ballparks fault and admit the players just are not good lol compare any of those guys I named who were all on the same team to Rojas Cal Garver Rayley Canzone DMO Crawford France Haniger. Even when Cal hits 30 home runs for us he still only gonna bat 200 avg I dont have faith in anyone on our team hitting 300 this year and thats sad and when the whole teams gonna hit 200-250 avg and lead MLB in 29% strikeouts almost a all time worst and on balls right over middle of plate to not just even swing and miss breaking balls its beyond pathetic and frustrating we need star players again not the avg players we hope can produce then always fail to
Ty France is Meh and Garver is not having a good season. Why not sign free agent Brandon Belt?
Good God, this episode is depressing
