This is a great way to turn a flyrod into a trolling fly rod. Most rod holders will not hold a flyrod very well. The long butt section keeps it in the rod holder securely. Also, being able to use the long handle for pinning the rod while retrieving 100 plus feet of line with or without a fish, is a bonus.
    Great video. 👊🏼 👍🏼🤙🏼

Huh. Didn’t even think of that! I know they make special holders for fly rods but if i could use the ones i have already then why not! Thanks for the tips 🤘

Very good. As people realize there are many ways to customize, create rods, lines etc., they will also realize how ridiculous it is to pay over a couple hundred bucks for rods or over $30 for lines. It is also very easy to build rods from blanks too. If you know how to tie a woolly bugger you can easily wrap a guide too. No need for fancy rod building devices for a small production.
One recommendation for removing the end cap of the seat: you can also cut it off with a small saw at the last thread. Not only it is easier but also no heating involved. I would not recommend heating. The seat is a metal, and it is conductive. So, you may compromise more epoxy than you are intending. Also, when you are installing the cork butt, I would put epoxy to the tip of the "dowel "(just like you did) but also either put more epoxy or add a little silicone into the seat cavity to seal it. You wouldn't want any water seeping in.

Great video! inspired to try this myself now! I have developed wrist problems and casting a 6wt single handed 11ft rod is getting too hard! its my favourite rod for swinging sea trout flies (sea run brown over your side of the water !!) but used as a switch it would take much of the stress out of it. Nicely done! 👍

Rock solid. Love the drill/lathe idea. Genius!
If it broke on the first cast, that would have CZcams funniest of the year. Lol. But that is way too as solid to break.

Yeah the ole drill lathe trick is pretty useful. I do wish i still had a lathe in the shop though😆
