    Hi,
    Interesting video. I didn't find that research button but I found I can use filter that shows all sold items on my given subject for example postage stamps.
    This is one way to value stamps and I think one of the best way because you get real value that people are willing to pay.

    Thanks for your videos. I’ve recently inherited my elderly mother’s stamp collection, mostly New Zealand stamps and first day covers. The stamps range from 1855 to 2000. Also Rhodesian first day covers from 1967 to 1970 and South African fdc of the same era. I’m planning on selling on EBay, so your advice is very useful. Thanks again. I collected stamps during the 1960s and 70s. My mum’s collection has reignited my interest! I’d be interested in being interviewed by your colleague. I’ve had an unusual childhood, growing up in New Zealand, The UK, Canada, Australia and South Africa in the 50s and 60s. Since then I’ve lived in Holland and 34 years in Taiwan! Best wishes and thanks again!

    I thought it was just me ... but I do find my weekend sales tend to get more bids (at least anecdotally).
    So I seem to agree with your hypothesis.

    In the US, pre 1865 stamps (before the Civil War) are not valid for postage anymore. When the South left the Union, many southern post offices retained their stock of stamps and the post office department was worried that the South could smuggle them across the lines and obtain money by selling them up north. Citizens in the north were given a deadline to return them for a refund in 1861, afterwards they were invalidated.

    Only barcoded stamps with few exceptions are no longer postally valid in the UK.

    Interesting video. Did not know about the feature in Ebay. I tend to look more in my lunchbreaks but I buy in the weekend. At work I am not entirely sure about
    1 - do I have the stamp(s)
    2 - the catalogue price
    So, it could be people are like me, looking throughout the week, do their quest for items, and in the weekend check their catalogues and collections.
    Thanks for your video Pete and Sheila!

    I view daily. I tend to focus on the buy now feature to avoid the temptation of over paying in a bidding war.

      Good plan, you really have to be disciplined when looking at auction sales.

    at 11:10 you said that in Euro countries you can't use anymore stamps with previous currency. No, in Italy you can still use every stamp (in Lire currency) issued after the 1st January 1968

    • @ourdadsstamps
      @ourdadsstamps  Před 3 měsíci

      Interesting, I didn't know that. Presumably they have set an exchange rate for the equivalent in Euro's

    • @jianfri
      @jianfri Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@ourdadsstamps yes, it's fixed since 1999.. 1 euro = 1936,27 lire, and all the stamps issued between 1999 and 2002 had both currency printed

    you are wrong about Europe stamps: in Belgium we can use stamps in Belgian francs and in euro on letters and cards.

    • @ourdadsstamps
      @ourdadsstamps  Před 11 měsíci

      That's interesting, how do they work out the value of the Belgian francs. I have received a package from Belgium with stamps in francs, I thought it was just for decoration. Thanks for the information.

      @@ourdadsstamps 1 euro = 40,3399 Belgian francs. We have to pay more if we want to put Belgian Francs or euros on the letter. Standard is now 1 or 2 or 3 in circles (everlasting stamps). They make it quite complicated here in Belgium ...
