Yamaha have fantastic free apps that will allow you to do much, much more with your Yamah DTX402 drum kit that you ever thought imaginable. All that is needed is your smart device, a USB cable, and a suitable adapter.
The DTX402 Touch app allows you to control the sounds and training functions
In this video we see Simon from Yamaha Drums show us the following fun training features and more:
    1. Song score gate - this compares your playing to the written music displayed on the app, and rates your playing on how accurate it is.
    2. Fast blast - strictly for fun, this measure how fast, and how many times you can hit the pads in a measured amount of time.
    3. Challenge (80 lessons) - With this there are 80 lessons to teach you how to play the 10 internal songs. If you complete all the lessons, you get a certificate from Yamaha!
In addition, we see how to use the Rec N Share App! Then Rec N Share App allows you to access your music library and add a metronome to your tracks. When you have mastered the song, and you are happy with your performance, you can even film yourself playing on your Yamaha DTX402 (or any other Yamaha electric drumkit) and make a drum video, then post it onto social media, or send it to your friends, family or even your drum teacher.

I see he is handling an IPhone with an audio adapter, I suppose it connects via the audio output of the module, oh no wait I believe its a USB to lighting adapter connected to it.

Hey. I hope you have found the solution to your problem. I have struggled to make the connection my self with my iphone. For me the problem was that the adapter to the iphone had bad connection, after moving and touching it the connection succeeded.
Some key points i've learned from the yamaha instruction videos, i hope this helps:
      1. turn on the drum module
      2. select training
      3. connect the usb cable to drum module
      4. connect the other side of the cable to the phone (app preferably not launced yet)
      5. launc the app
i allways go to training / pop and if i dont see 114 at bpm i know there is something wron.
      happy drumming!

      Heya all,
For those finding it hard to connect the phone to the app, all you need is 2 cables:
      Cable 1: 1 usb 2.0 A-Male to B-Male cable
      Cable 2: 1 USB C to USB 3.1
you need to connect the first cable, (2.0 B-Male side) to the DTX module where it says 'USB to host'. The other side (2.0 A-Male) is connected with the second cable (USB 3.1 or USB 3.0). Finally, you connect the other side of the second cable to your phone (which was USB C in my case).
      I hope this helps!
