I love Lu through it all. She’s a total badass.
Ah, My lovely Lucinda . what a great take .
She is bad ass!!! Love that girl. I go see her every chance I get.
Beautiful. And that band--wow.
Her Majesty Lucinda Williams and her awesome band
Talking Heads were great but let's not forget Al Green and the great, ever-present Stax rhythm section, (Booker T. and the boys). Lucinda reminds us.
First saw this woman live in 2014, had high expectations which were met. More impressive were the people she had with her on stage. She clearly has kept her standards- how about those guys!
Yes, Lu always chooses exceptional musicians. You can read the credits for Lu’s Jukebox by going to my 4th playlist (Lu’s Jukebox) and tapping on the small i with a circle around it. 💕
Lucinda......a back alley matriarch.......rich and raw and washin' me down...........
2 thumbs up 👍 👍 - But, CZcams only allows me to give one.💕
Sooo 👍
I want to thank each and everyone of you who listen to the videos I post. And, I am grateful for your comments! It’s great to be able to converse with each other about the music that I hold dearly in my life, my heart, my spirit...💕. It means a lot to me. Again, thank you!
It is a grand opportunity for each of us to share what you have provided. Beyond the music, sharing words and thoughts is a counterpoint to what we musically hear. Good Job Blythe Spirit .👍
I've just discovered you tonight and you are already one of my top fav ever bands. Magnificent all around.
I’m so glad I found you on YT.
LAMF forever in this masterpiece!!
❤❤ From By water Nola...love Lucinda...

Love me some Lucinda!!!
Lucinda You still slay!!!!
Lucinda window to soul
I LOVE THE SWAMPY HAUNTING FEEL WAY COOL 😎 HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF LUCINDA SHE REMINDS ME OF A FEMALE STEVE EARLE GREAT JOB VIDEO
Agree
It doesn't get any badder.
Love.
I am not surprised at all, for nearly every time I hear Lu do a cover, right then and there she OWNS it. Here with the Talking Heads having done this like 40 years ago and Lu sculpting it in her own style, she is now the owner of record. Just to be sure, I played The Talking Heads 1980 release, and though I liked it a lot, they no longer OWN the song.
You don't seem to be aware of this song was first recorded by Al Green.
It was originally written and recorded by Al Green and Teenie Hodges, in 1974. Since then it has had some remarkable covers, including a cover by Talking Heads. This is from Lu’s Jukebox Vol. 2 - Southern Soul. Lu’s Jukebox Series is a well chosen and performed group of songs that Lucinda Williams chose to cover during the Pandemic toward the end of 2020. They are available on Lu’s website which can be accessed on the description page of this song.
Fun jam.
SOOOOO Good
LOU!!🎸🎸🎸❤️❤️
Love her music lyrics and her fathers poetry
LU is the sound of American Music. ((also, I was the 420th like and today is 4/20))
😊 Thank you for the 420th like!
With New Mexico burning, I love this song and this version even more than usual. The weather in our state was historically bad (hurricane force winds) the night of the Lensic Show (Santa Fe)…Hope Lucinda can visit again when our best and more usual weather’s in place.
Wow this is Gold to me. Lu !! ❣
Excellent band!
Saw her in 1999, great guitarists then too
A real Hi-Fidelity experience. More please.
I think the genius of this song is in the mix. Finally someone who gives all the instruments enough volume to be heard. Very hard to improve on most time honored classics, but they may have pulled it off hear. More bands need to play hard though out the song, not just a short lead in the middle.
So very good
She owns everything she does!
Thank you, Dennis! It’s a wonderful compliment, especially coming from a great musician.
I’ve been listening to your music. As I’m sure you know, your music is breathtaking.💕
@@blythespirit4077 Thank you! She's been a great inspiration for many years. Car Wheels is still one of the best albums ever!
She is something else . Saw her at Red Rocks years ago Great show . Definitely not for everyone until you listen to her album Essence, that will change your mind .
She is for me. One of the very few female voices I have ever loved. Can't t listen to alot of female vocalists. She's s up there with Janice and a few other soul ladies, in my book.
Thank you! Greetings from 🇸🇪👍🐣
A favorite version, thank you. Both Stuart Mathis and Joshua Grange were great as were the whole band. 👍
Yes - Anyone can read all credits by going to my playlists #4 Lu’s Jukebox, and tapping on it to open it up. Then tap on the small black i with a black circle around it - directly above the rectangle black play button. All credits are given for Lu’s Jukebox 1-6. What an amazing series!
@@blythespirit4077 Lu's Jukebox IS an amazing series! I never fail to pimp these releases to anybody who loves music. Thanks again Blythe. ❤👊

@@artemisXsidecross Thank you for the share! Stuart Mathis is not only an amazing guitar player, he is also a great guy. I’m so happy he’s playing with Lucinda.
I love this version - thank you
GREAT!
Fabulous!
Whoa,
Great version. Best version I've heard yet! At 2:24 the guitarist with the red SG channels Lucinda's favourite guitarist she's worked with, Doug Pettibone, and his trademark fat fuzz tone and slow string bends.
Yes, Richard. It’s her lead guitarist,Stuart Mathis. He’s been with Lu for a long time now. Before that he played lead guitar for The Wallflowers.💕
Hi Blythe, Me again.... Now I know WHY I subscribed to your channel. This gal.
What a fuck song! Great Lucinda!
Increíble lo que se logra haciendo trabajar poco al batero! Impresionante tema!
Can't touch that !
Muy Muuuy Bueno!!!
💜🤘🏿
Sinister....
As much as I love Lucinda...and I love Lucinda...this doesn't touch the Reverend Al Green...JMHO
I welcome all comments as long as they aren’t coming from a troll. I’ve never met a humble troll... 😉💕.
Lucinda has talked openly about how happy she was to sing this song with David Byrne.
@@blythespirit4077 Never a bit a disrespect ever intended...been a huge fan since Sweet Old World. ❤️
@@GaryT1952 Thank you, Gary. I sensed that about you as soon as I read your comment. I remember hearing Lucinda Williams talk about her father emphasizing the importance of not censoring oneself when it comes to writing and many other areas as well. I truly welcome all comments, as long as they are not coming from trolls. I hope to read future comments from you. 💕
Everybody who does a song puts their own spin on it. Some people prefer one performance, others another.
What album is this on
Lu’s Jukebox Vol. 2
Southern Soul from Memphis to Muscles Shoals
Released July 9, 2021.
You can purchase one CD album or streaming or if you prefer, you can purchase all six albums that were released by Lucinda Williams.
Kenny Vaughan on lead.
@Rand - Vocals: Lucinda Williams. Guitars: Stuart Mathis, Joshua Grange. Bass: Steven Mackey.
Drums: Fred Eltringham.
Let's review this. Is it Kenny Vaughan or not? More specifically, who is the player on SG?
@@slimturnpike No it’s not Kenny Vaughan on lead guitar. But, Kenny Vaughan is a remarkable guitarist. He is well known for playing with Marty Stuart in the back up band, “The Fabulous Superlatives”, since it’s inception in 2002. Prior to that, he toured with Lucinda Williams for three years, while she promoted Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. It’s been noted that it’s easier to mention who he has not played with in his career, rather than who he has played with. Kenny’s first professional gig in Nashville, was with Sweethearts of the Rodeo. Then Patty Loveless, Rodney Crowell, and Kim Richey. Kenny quit going on the road for a while to do sessions music, until Lucinda Williams contacted him to go on the road with her for 3 years in the late 90’s.
Nope, nope.. Stuart Mathis
@@slimturnpike No!
Swampy
As much as I love the music of Lucinda Williams, mainly the early recordings, let us be honest and unbiased: if this was the vocal performance by an unknown singer, there would be at least some criticism concerning her phrasing and (sometimes unstable) tone.
Sorry, but the original by the co-writer of this song, Al Green, (who dedicated the song in its introduction to the great Junior Parker) is so much more subtle to my ears than this version.
But everybody listens with her or his developed taste …
I don’t agree but I welcome your comments as long as you are not a troll.
Pretty horrible. Some things, very few, should not be touched.
Very nice recording though. The fidelity and playing are good.
