So an opportunity popped up with a really good find, so I went and bought it for $500!!! This really shows you what you can do to find your first project car, find a budget suv, etc with minimal risk and a lot of potential reward!!! We used all common hand tools and did this job at home ourselves! Craftsman was bought by Stanley and now they have decent tools for the price! Worth taking a look at for sure! There is nothing more rewarding than being able to fix your own AND other vehicles. I found CF back in 2015 and got hooked. I began fixing up my car at the time (mk4 golf) and ended up enjoying it so much I went to tech school. Long story short, I am now a mechanic and I have been able to use every single trick in my career that I have learned from ChrisFix. To this day, whenever tackling a new problem, 9/10 times there is a tutorial I can learn from. I turn it on loud in the garage and go to work- It’s like he’s right there with me. Thanks Chris. Yep! Maybe I'm not supposed to but I also put the brake lubricant (silicone stuff) where wheels contact my wheel knuckles. Makes it so easy to remove.
Chris, I have followed you from the very beginning. Then I lived in the US, now I am back home in the UK. I am a car guy that is older than your dad. I am so pleased to see your hard work pay off. Good luck to you. So in this example the guys exhaust rusted out, he ignored it, melted his fuel tank (lucky to not cause a calamtous fire) so he could not refuel, and blamed thefuel pump ... wow. What a win for you.

One thing to mention is that a blown fuse is rarely the actual problem, it’s usually a symptom of a bigger problem somewhere else In the car. You mentioned that in this video with the fuel pump that ran dry so kudos for that! Always love your videos

If you wanted to make the leather seats look really really nice again, just throw a bit of warm water on them and use a hair dryer to slowly evaporate the water.
The leather will shrink back to close to original, and doing this is SUPER cheap for a really nice outcome

We have an expedition that had constant overheating problem. We've done a lot to keep the thing running but Everytime it goes down it's down months at a time. Everytime we've got it running I had so much satisfaction. I expect another shitty job if it breaks down but I love the feeling.
I drive a 10 yr old Acura I'm doing the 500k challenge with. It's definately a euphoric feeling doing simple repairs and maintenance yourself. Making the car safer, better handling and better performing.

Ah mate you’ve made me smile so much. My father bought a Trailblazer when I was 6, he crashed it bad when I was 19. Total loss. I have so many memories with that, going on holidays, the roar of the engine, my first bootleg driving sessions... ultimately I was able to drive it a couple times with my driving’s licence before it left us. I miss it so much, and now this video made me feel like if someone had grabbed our old one and resuscitated it. Thanks Chris.

Changing a fuel tank to me always seemed like playing minesweeper: you never know what connector will cover you in gas.

When he was checking the fuses I was on the edge of my seat with my daughter going "Oh man, it's going to be a damn 5 cent fuse and that's all that the truck needs!" That gas tank etc was a bit more... I never knew dropping a tank was that easy.

Simple steps in really owning, your car is to take control over things. Watching videos of other people doing repairs/maintenance is the first sub-step to that. There's no rocket science in keeping your car upright, only dedication to the investment you made (at its most core value).

Excellent presentation and editing. You also polished the faded headlamp housings. I've done that when out, using same DA polisher and compound for the paint. Also buffed and polished the paint on left side, which cleaned up perfectly. In CA, rust isn't much concern, but clear-coat degrades in the sun to look horrid on a dark car. Trailblazer: Screams in bipolar broken 4L60E
Fact the 4L60e can either last 300k or 100 miles. The one on my avalanche has been good so far, but I don’t expect it to last very long.
MattProductions2012 but the 4l80e in my Silverado wil last as long as the motor 😝
They also have a tendency to die while in movement from multiple causes. Chevy!
when paired with that 4.2 they're generally under stressed and will probably outlast the ones that are in the Silverado's and whatnot.

In Wa I've bought two rigs in "running condition" both have electrical issues but boy do I love my 86 chevy astro van with a bored out 4.3L and anything autozone could throw at it except seats for less than 1200$ total for a "race and tow" rig and it will do 92.1mph in third of four gears but what blows my mind is the transmission is both an automatic and a manual with clutch plates

It's crazy looking at this and remembering when these videos first came out, then looking at the date stamps and realizing it's two years old, and then you're like, holy crap time flies. Doesn't change how good these videos are, but shows how long it's been without even realizing it.

This video made me realise how dangerous an exhaust leak is.
That was more than an exhaust leak, it would not have been as dangerous if the gas tank was made of steel and not right next to the muffler.

I love these videos. Really shows how badly mechanics tend to screw people by padding labor costs.
And it really shows how Chris isn't a mechanic. All of that rust, that car is better off in the scrapyard.
Actually if you don't own any of those tools or have the extra time to do it. Mechanics spend their time to fix Your car Using their tools. They're making a living through those labour cost working on other people's vehicles so I don't really agree with your statement
@@ravenyangwenda368completely agree. This is probably coming from a person who has never had to do any major repairs. Having the correct tools is everything. Every Mechanic I know has grease on their hands 24-7 and usually has a busted knuckle or a few. It’s like any other business, there are good companies and shady companies.

Great job man, I have a quick cleaning tip , use some fast orange with pumice hand cleaner on that carpet , scrub it in let it dry then vacuum gets the grease and grim out and smells good too.

Yeah. I think people are sick and tired of "access media" of all kinds. People who get free gear and then tell everyone how great it is, shilling for some company. Much better to go your own way and earn the support of viewers.
Craftsman tools are nice - that would be hard to turn down. It's better to see basic tools being use though. The most important tool being an understanding of how air, fuel & spark is needed for starting the engine, and knowing simple tricks of the trade for mechanical and electrical fixes.

Well I just got myself a non-running Jeep for $900, will be going over the same process to solve the problem like Chris does here. However I am going to have to completely respray this jeep. But even with the cost of all that I am still going to come well over a couple thousand in profit. Love these videos Chris, you inspire people more than you know.

@Nob the Knave Depends on where you are, I think. The suburbs of New Jersey I grew up in, you'd get a lot of strange looks for doing anything more than washing your car while in your driveway.
On the other hand, the neighborhood in Rhode Island that I had a home in for a few years nobody would look at you twice working on your car, you may even get someone coming over to check out what you're doing and offer a hand. Granted, the neighborhood in Rhode Island was a bit more rural which likely has a big influence.

@@chrisfix Hey Chris, do you think at some point you could do some wiring or electrical work? Your vids really are that understand able, they were able to help me score a mechanic job and I'm not even certified. Maybe a heater core or simple after market stereo? Thank man god bless you brother.
@@chrisfix My family had to replace a gas tank on their truck which is similar to chevy trailblazer. A gmc envoy. The gas tank had a major crack in it which was cause by rust. Our mechanic told us new one is worth more than 800 dollars, and use one is worth anywhere from 100-700 dollars. A week later they called a and told us that it also needed a new fuel filter besides the tank and the pump. My family had to pay $900 dollars. But on the way from the shop while he was at a stop about 15 mins from my house thank check engine came on. My dad told my mom it and my mom called the shop back and my dad took it back up 4 days later. They told us that they a senser that is connected to the newish gas tank is bad and they forgot to check it before they gave our car back. They fix it. They didn't even charge us anything becuase it was part of the work they did. Plus when we were there real reason why it cause 900 dollars was because we had them change our oil as well.

he got a good deal. even though he replaced the fuel pump anyways. I most likely would have replaced it also, depending on mileage and service records. I definitely offer less on a car if there's no service records. You have to then assume the vital stuff is going bad and needs replacement (like timing belt, water pump, fuel pump.. and the small stuff too, like spark plugs and wires, distributor or coil(s), thermostat, and transmission/radiator/brake fluid replacement.. it adds up if you don't do the work yourself!).
@@GlycerinZ yes do the work yourself, you'll learn a lot and save a lot. Knowing your car is the best thing an owner can do.

Wow... I'm not even a car mechanic, or someone who is remotely skilled at fixing cars. That being said, I ended up watching this video because of the enthusiasm, as well as the absolute joy in seeing a car get revived like THAT. So so satisfying.

I think that if there is one thing that this channel has taught me
It's that working on cars is less of a traditional skill where you practice
And more of a skill of constant learning. If you can learn, you can fix your car.
