  • Villiersdorp is a town of approximately 10,000 people located in the Western Cape province of South Africa in the Overberg region.
Unlike most of the geographical region which specialises in wheat and canola farming, the Villiersdorp Valley is now agriculturally and in micro-climate more similar to the Elgin Valley and Grabouw since the building of the Theewaterskloof Dam, and thus also specialises in deciduous fruit farming and viticulture. The Theewaterskloof Dam, the largest dam in the Western Cape and seventh largest in South Africa and important water supply to Cape Town fills the majority of the valley floor.
The town is named after Field Cornet Pieter de Villiers, a local farmer who founded the settlement in 1843

I spent the last two years of my schooling at De Villiers Graaf High School in Villiersdorp. What wonderful memories of the school, the town and its people. I miss it very much and daresay were It to have had the opportunity to live there nowadays I would have been one of the somewhat eccentric ones!

    Excellent video.
Villiersdorp is a gem just outside Cape Town. So happy it gets some well-deserved exposure. People can also subscribe on the Villiersdorp Tourism Newsletter.
I think the town has tremendous tourism potential especially with more advanced mountain biking and hiking trails.
Also, a lovely place to raise children for those who can work remotely.
    Greetings Villiersdorp Resident

Our family is looking to move there next year. Before we can't afford to get out of JHB.

Everything works out in the end. If it hasn't worked out, it's not the end. ❤️

Great concept, but there is so much more to Villiersdorp than just art and wine.... Talk to the people that have grown up here and were born here. Not those who moved here...
