The info in is video about Terrastalizing is a bit outdated. When you Terrastalize, you keep your old STAB moves, so a Tera-Fire Skeledirge would have a 1.5x boost to Ghost and 2x boost to Fire, and a Tera Fairy Meowscarada would have a 1.5x boost to Dark, Grass and Fairy.
Wouldn't the boost be 2.5 because 1.5x1.5 is 2.25
@@kristopherarmknecht5956 no, it’s Adaptability rules.
Another tip: if you get a Male Ralts or Kirlia with Trace, Sharpness Gallade can tear the game in half, as this ability makes Sacred Sword STRONGER than Close Combat, and it can also use the boost on moves like Leaf Blade, Psycho Cut, Night Slash, and the new Aqua Cutter, so definitely try to keep that little thing alive until you get a Dawn Stone, which can be found in East Province Area 2 by digging around, the same place as you can find a Tera Fire Kirlia
Even without Sharpness, Though, both Gardevoir and Gallade have excellent typing and movepool, with just enough speed to outrun most things with a neutral or positive nature, and plenty of special defense
I love this style of Nuzlocke guide, and I'd love to see you make Nuzlocke tips for earlier games.
In the early game you have to fight nemona before going into mezagoza. In the battle she has a pawmi which terastalizes into an electric type (you yourself can't terastalize at this point). It's not too difficult but it could screw up your team if you chose quaxly or are using other pokemon weak to electric. However a paldean wooper from the nearby areas completely walls it because its only move is thundershock and wooper is poison-ground type. Wooper is also good into Iono and the stony cliff titan. Wooper is a good ground type you can get literally immediately. Wooper can learn moves like toxic spikes, earthquake and recover and evolves into clodsire who is a very good defensive pokemon. Plus wooper can also have the ability water absorb which helps against nemona's quaxly if you chose sprigatito. Water absorb turns a weakness to water into free healing.
Wooper is op in this game. Fear the derpy mud boi
Clodsire has a really bad bst but it’s still viable and pretty tanky
@@pixelturtle5041 Clodsire is the perfect example of low BST not being the end of the world if the stats are spread well. With 130 base HP and 100 base special defense clodsire can tank special attacks for days. Anybody can use a solid defensive wall in a nuzlocke. Albeit clodsire has bad physical defense. But still a tanky ground type with water absorb is really good.
@@InsertNameHere649 Stat distribution is important. Its Speed is really annoyingly low though. It's great in some match-ups since it can hard wall some things.
You think Wooper is OP? I got a Dunsparce in a Nuzlocke in this game, and with Mirror Herb just available to buy, you can Serene Grace Paraflinch with a Egg Move Headbutt and Glare. Not to mention with the huge variety of TMs it can be your Agility Calm Mind Baton Passer, and later on even Coil which it learns.
That's irrelevant for monotype nuzlockes that aren't ground or poison though
I just finished a Hardcore Nuzlocke last night clearing all 4 stories, and I must say I've learned so much just from watching your videos. I used to Nuzlocke with items and stuff because I couldn't fathom doing set mode and all that and just going "ha ha super effective hits go brrrrrrrr". In this Nuzlocke, I found a newfound appreciation for a Dark Tera Type Venomoth that allowed me to do so many things. I had Quiver Dance strats, I had defensive set up strats with pokemon like Appletun, i had immunity pivots to PP stall a gym leader, I executed a baton pass strat for the first time in my life. And when I used to watch other people Nuzlocke and use Baton Pass, I would just think "this is boring, it's just set up and let someone else kill it" but now that I've done it, I recognize the satisfaction that comes with getting everything to go perfectly, watching what the opponent's lead can do to look for a good opportunity to set up because in order to baton pass something, you still have to set it up first, which isn't always easy.
So thank you for your content, not just this video, but all of it. It's helped me become a better Nuzlocker and it's given me a lot more satisfaction when I can complete a run like I did last night.
What I love doing is a 'dumblocke'- when new gen comes out, I find out nothing but new pokemon, I start nuzlocke knowing nothing and it makes the game way more chaotic than normal. I've had a situation where for some reason I thought the next gym will be fire type but it turned out to be grass type gym. You can't be overly prepared when you know nothing ^^
For what it's worth, Arven has literally no answer into fighting types, so he can be swept pretty easily, especially since most fighting types get coverage moves to hit his two pokemon that aren't weak to fighting attacks. His lead Greedent is also pretty easy to set up on, especially if you burn it.
He Crit my Combat Tauros turn 1 with Psychic Fangs and I one-shot his whole team with Anger Point. He doesn’t have anything fast. The same would’ve happened with Penny and her Umbreon’s Psychic if she didn’t have Jolteon.
Another thing about quaquaval: be ready to have a picnic. Because the dancing duck’s hidden ability is moxie. So using aqua step and getting a KO basically gives a dragon dance boost. Oh also get a flamigo if you didn’t get quaquaval.
And how does one get the hidden ability pray tell?
i had a lot of fun using squawkabilly as my ‘starter’ of choice. it’s a fixed encounter on top of your house after choosing the real starter. intimidate from the get go is beautiful. died after vigoroth used counter. rip beautiful soul
volt absorb, normal tera jolteon completely shuts down iono’a mismagius. and normal tera jolteon is very easy to get since it keeps eevees tera type when it evolves. there’s a fixed eevee encounter east of los platos aswell
this was really useful, thanks! I am one of those that like doing nuzlockes because it gives the game stakes, but i am a bit dumdum and hasty to be good at it, so these tips really come in handy to plan out the playthrough and especially learning how the ai thinks is gold
I would love a video on specific nuzlocke strategies! Think it'll be cool to look at specific things to consider/look out for in runs
These are such awesome tips! I love the accessibility of all your videos. They're fun to watch both for people new and experienced in Nuzlocking due to your humor, editing, and how deep you choose to dive into explanations. Hope you had a great holiday and I'm sure great things are ahead in the new year for you and those you care about!
Sadly I believe that the wild area/open world titles have taken away from Nuzlockes. This is because there is no tension about the timing of the encounters, where it was previously based/limited by routes, while now you can get a new team member pretty much whenever needed... not to mention all the items you can get even before gym (see 6:30) making it easier than before actually ... hardcore rules with no overlevelling is Necessary to have some sort of challenge this time around
if you don't do raids, your levelcap still limits the amount of encounters
And the community remains far too stagnant to come up wtih any challenge ideas that actually complement the new game structure... So until then we're gunna keep watching youtubers try to fit this square peg into a round hole.
@@exa_eille I think going in reverse boss order at the very least reverse gym badge order might be interesting since you then have to decide which Pokemon you want to use since they will probably be over the level cap for future bosses
@@larsm867 Pff, as if basic math could stop me from getting a stupidly overleveled fish to make so I can only get a Gimmighoul thanks to dupes.
@@exa_eille One rule that's worked for me but has increased the length of the nuzlocke pretty drastically is that for every route you travel on, you have to do the number of battles the league rep. wants you to do to receive his rewards. The lack of trainer encounters really turns S/V into boss fights the pokemon game when random trainers were often the cause of a single loss, leading into potential snowballs. Also, some random trainers in S/V have some pretty tight teams and nasty gimmicks.
Looking forward to seeing how to include some of these in my own run throughs! I randomly found the assault vest last run, and it was pretty awesome!
Hi Joe
@@Squirtle_Squad_Supremacy what are you doing here? Still pretending squirtle is the best starter?
yess nuzlocker coexistence!!
@@NuzlockeJoe pretending?
Truly awesome
I think the info about terastallizing is off. If you terastallize a Meowsdarada to grass, for example, it gets x2.0 for grass STAB, but keeps x1.5 STAB for dark.
Been loving all these guides Flygon, super appreciated as I play through my first nuzlocke on Violet!
Funny thing, I did a Wonderlocke and finished just today, I found 3 shinies and I allowed them on my team even though I caught them. If you want to do a Wonderlocke, just saying it's hard to keep below the level cap
I only allow one Tera Raid encounter as a free encounter since the stat screen says it comes from a tera raid instead of the place the tera raid took place
Also, I’ve had Rockruff get immediately tired when auto battling a Bombirdier, even when Rock is super effective against Flying and the bird is lower leveled than Rockruff
Base stat total matters too.
The auto battling in the game sometimes is very weird and doesn't make sense. As an example my tinkatuff kept losing to poison type Pokémon despite it being steel which is immune. I guess it just sees the fairy and decides "yep that's super effective"
amazing taste in PMD music doctor
good to know i chose the best starter for nuzlocking these games... i still miss him after getting one shotted by clavell's quaquaval due to my arrogance
Thanks for the tips Dr. Flygon
Fantastic video! Thank you for the tips an explanations; the AI's logic for which pokemon to send out is really helpful.
And I'm so happy Pokemon S&V is so excellent for challenge runs. I hope future games are like this, but with auto-scaling levels on gym leaders so you can take them on in any order.
Would love to have more of your guides, they're super informative and captivating to watch

Getting my copy of Violet this weekend and looking forward to getting to a nuzlock of it in the near future! AI switch logic tactics seem like useful things to discuss imo
Man I JUST finished my Pokedex, how do these videos always come out at the perfect times! Lol, thank you FlygonHG ❤️❤️
Thanks for the tips Flygon😆!
Yes! I'd love more Nuzlocke tips videos!
I'd love to see more videos like this!
I did find a good counter for ionoe's mismagius bronzong with gravity and steel tera type
Played this game TWICE and i thought you were supposed to fight the fire car first
I'd love a series of videos ranking the difficult of each mono type challenge in a given game
AI switch logic video would be amazing - especially if you could go over the history of the AI switch logic to cover all the older gens too, maybe even another video covering the Romhacks AI switch logic that you’ve played too!

Never expected to hear SM64 music in one of your vids! Jolly Roger Bay's theme is great! And you've got great taste in music!
Thnx for sharing this!
Good guide. :D
great video, I'd love to learn more about nuzlocke with you, it would be cool if you did a beginner or introduction video or series to nuzlocke :)
East province area 2 (from fire base to Levincia) has plenty of Hondew and Kelpsy berries for EV reallocation in the shiny item spawns
More of this please!
If you want to avoid the friendship mechanic buffs you can also just use the herbs on your Pokémon, like energy root, heal powder, etc Pokémon don't like the taste and it will lower friendship
But I don’t want my pokemon to hate me though 🥺🥺
Here is a very OP combo with a jigglypuff that carried me through my nuzlocke: A jigglypuff (with a normal tera type) with a Silk Scarf (found at the presents shop in Mesagoza). Now for the move: Charm or swallow preferably charm, sing, stockpile, and spit up. Terrestallize your jigglypuff then use sing when your jigglypuff puts the Pokémon to sleep use charm on it 2 to 3 time depending if it wakes up. It’s attack will be lowered so much you can just use sing again and use stockpile (max stockpile is 3) when it wakes up again put that thing right back to sleep then use spit out. Hope this helped!
Tip if you struggling with money you can sell materials at the tm vending machine and happiny dust can be trade for 150 lp
I never made sandwiches in game so I never got any affection bonuses. I actually thought they were removed since I never got any. But now I know I just didn’t love my Pokémon enough I guess
patiently awaiting for new upload PauseChamp (flygon ur the best nuzlocke content creator)
thanks flygon
I haven't played any game after Sun/Moon but I will still watch this religiously
I will probably get violet tomorrow and I do intend to do a bunch of stuff including doing a Nuzlocke I will certainly apply these rules to my nuzlockes thanks for the rules you just earned another subscriber
Bulk up is also available in south providence area 2 it's on a hill north of the gym test
Doing my first nuzlocke with only Paldean Pokémon and it’s gonna very well. I’m sure it’s a bit easier because most are good Pokémon. Went with the grass cat since I chose Fuecoco on my first run. Definitely some more challenge with the grass cat. Titans have been easy but thr fidt gym was shaky. The grass gym was swept very easily wifh my Scovillain with flamethrower and sun up.I just made it past the electric gym which I completely swept with Clodsire. Got max special defense with amnesia when Belibolt was out since I was immune to all its attacks. I’ve lost two Pokémon so far but it was because I was stupid in underestimating wild encounters.
I want to defend Quaquaval rq. I looked through his tms and learned he can learn Baton Pass which you get in the very beggining of the game. So with Aqua Step and Work up / Bulk up, Quaquaval is an AMAZING lead to set up and either sweep itself, or if health gets too low or your opponent sends out a bad matchup, you can just go and baton pass all those stat boots to the next Pokémon. Quaquaval is EXTREMELY underrated.
A vid showing the pokemon battle orders with flowcharts would be very useful! 👍
Could you do something like this for usum. Ive been having difficulties.
i would really love if you could explain switch logic and how the AI choses moves and such since im trying to do nuzlocks but i find it hard to know how to do prep for each fight
Said it on the last one I'll say it again, thank you for this video!!!
@@Official_FlygonHG lmao your not flygon 😂😂😂😂
@@Official_FlygonHG there's a better chance of hitting sheer cold with 6 accuracy drops then you making me smile 😂😂😂😂😂
One thing I learned the hard way is pickup got reworked gave a mon a berry aye it teddiursa ate and then furry cutter proceeded to sweep my team cause all my mons where slower then it
Clodsire can wall Iono's Mismagius pretty easily
11:45 Yea accidentally stumbled into the Earth Titan with a level 32 Gyrados.....Gryados won but by a millimeter of hp...he swept the second fight since Titan hit buddies pokemon.
Imo oricorio is a very powerful encounter because it can be 1 of 4 types oricorio can be a good pivot. And it's signature move revelation dance is basically just a stronger tera blast.
I'd appreciate a more in-depth explanation of nuzlock strategies.
Do you count Clavell as a major enough battle that you enforce a level cap?
"Or maybe youre just really bored and clicked on this video" LMFAO its like you read my mind xD lolololol
My critical hit luck in nuzlocke is pretty bad. Believe it or not, I literally got 4 critical hits in a row in black 2 and I lost my nuzlocke.
Also, I hate double battles playing in double battles are pretty tricky to me.
Bro Fire/Ghost types steamroll this game, Cerouledge hard walls Mela's Starmobile and also destroys Geeta's team after one Swords Dance (except for Glimmora)
Fun tip, only use the bike as swim, walk everywhere else.
The initial choice of music made me worried you were about to talk about parallel universes for a sec
I'm doing a hardcore nuzlocke for Violet. My team is lvl 21 Crocalor, lvl 22 Tinkatink, lvl 20 Mankey, lvl 21 Shellos, lvl 19 Ralts, lvl 20 Nacli. I'm currently trying to beat the team star base.
Good vid, pmd music is distracting around 20 minute mark
Don't forget, you hve to beat 2 trainers before you can challenge Iono (in case you using lvl caps, 24 btw).
My first attempt died to Grusha, my Skeledirge swept to altaria, but hurricane confused him, and he hit himself, I switched to clodsire, but he got froze by ice beam, same happened to my cycizar before it could shed tail and let skelidurge Finnish it.
It came down to clodsire vs. Low health altaria. He could live a hit and kill. Alt. Got a crit!
I guess Grushia’s monologue was right
Hey Flygon, could you do a nuzlocke with mouse Pokemon in scarlet/violet?
Hey I'm finally done with my normal playthrough so it's time for me to get back to the channel
just because fire types are rarer, doesnt mean they are rare. im doing a fire type only nuzlocke right now, and there are PLENTY of options. also it is possible to get back into inlet grotto to get a houndour via encountering a pokemon after locking on
Not a traditional nuzlocke but I started one where I gridlocke myself to an area and can’t advance it till you catch all new basic Pokémon in the area and all trainers gyms etc you can only catch each Pokémon’s basic form once so if you get a female ralts gallade would not be playable and once your Pokémon is engaged in a trainer battle they will not be able use them again till you have used every pokemon family once excluding version exclusive if your pokemon dies in battle that pokemon can no longer be used for the nuzlocke let me know where I can improve on this thanks
I think that sprigitito is the best starter because meowsrarada’s signature move has a guaranteed crit
Alternatively: If you manage to get an Eevee from around Cortondo (y'know, where the first gym is) and nab the thunder stone from the windmill farm literally just up the road, then Tera-Normal Jolteon with volt absorb completely walls Iono's stupid ghost zapper. Jolteon is also just a phenomenal pokemon anyways and with the abundance of TMs at your disposal, it's abysmal learnset is basically a nonissue.
aaaaand you showed it in the terastalization talk lmao. I'll leave it up anyway for the thunder stone location.
I think the info about trainers only being battleable once is incorrect. I’ve seen & heard of trainers recharging over time so a random number of them will let you rematch them.
I know this video is almost 3 months old, but just wanted to throw out there that I would like to see a video on predicting AI and battle flow charting, I feel like that's the last thing I really need to get better at for Nuzlockes and just playing the really hard battles in rom hacks like Radical Red (I know the AI works a little different in that hack, but knowing these planning techniques will help in general)
what if your doing a type only nuzlock
I think Nuzlocking post Gen 8 is impractical if not Impossible. Since you can get encounters whenever you want and catching is now a core mechanic of the game, progressing with that second rule is impractical for a long run.
Not related in any way but if you ever get braces DONT LET THEM USE RUBBER BANDS, this sucks. At least I have a video to watch while I wait-
The only thing that puts me off doing Nuzlocke challenges is that I need to buy the other copy of the game to do one or play it on another switch. Would be nice if you could just have multiple save files on the one game
I'm pretty sure you can just make a new switch account and start the game up with that? That's what I've done in pokemon sword at least
@@ragggen Thanks for your reply, I did not think to try something like that.
I'm doing a Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Flying Type. Pretty smooth sailing til Iono, which I have nothing prepared for. Can you give me some tips?
I lost to the champions king gambit 🤦♂️
Remember
The word Nuzlocke comes from a Nuzleaf named after a Lost character
No I do not know why
Yes you can google it
"fairy types work well in this raid, especially since lucario doesn't know any steel type moves"
so flash canon isn't a steel type move?
Can you do a made up Pokémon challenge I made it’s called the element Pokémon you can only use group flying Fire and Water types
Hey, you’re talking about me! I was super bored when I clicked on your video! 😂
LOOK THE ONLY NUZLOCKE MONO I WANTED TO DO WAS MONO GHOST AND MY SKELEDIRGE ALSO HAS THROAT SPRAY AND I LOST MY PALLOSAND AND FROSLASS AND MIMIKYU AND NOW MY TEAM IS DRAGAPULT, SKELEDIRGE, BRAMBLEGHAST, ANNIHILAPE, ROTOM, AND HOUNDSTONE IS MY TEAM GOOD PLEASE TELL ME I FEEL LIKE I JUST ATE TACO BELL
I can't play nuzlocke because I get too attached to my mons.😩
When I do nuzlockes I still keep all my dead mons haha, they just sit in the box after they faint. You could also go easier and give your mons each 3 lives before being boxed forever. So 3 faints. Or whatever arbitrary number you feel like using. I only do nuzlockes on a second or third playthrough though, so my mains always remain from my previous playthroughs. Idk its possible to get into, just go at it with some of your own rules and then up the challenge each time.
@@Hikarixhikarixhikari thank you miss Hikari Chan😊
I want to nuzlocke games but idk how to record more then 30 seconds of console gameplay
film the game on you’re phone?
Look for a capture card, that should allow you to do it.
Also, you don't need to record a game to nuzlocke it
@@animemoomy3018 there’s always problems with that’s though like it’s very tedious
@@naplockblubba5369 yeah but it would be cool to record my first ever nuzlocke
@@DarkCabin Got it. Definitely go with a capture card if you want to do that then. Recording it on your phone would just look terrible.
Hi Flygon, I know nuzlocking is your core, but I believe you have a great game knowledge and I would have some fun watching you play online matches, doing videos like the ones from CybertronVGC. It could just be an occasional thing ? And much easier to create a quick content, just jump on the ladder, fight like 3 matches, and post. Doesn’t matter if you win or lose as long as you are doing fun plays. Maybe in a secondary channel if you don’t feel comfortable posting on this one?
Air balloon to avoid poison? Did I miss something?
So I dunno exactly what's being referred to here
But air balloon makes your Pokémon ungrounded. a nifty way to avoid toxic spikes; a set up move which poisons your Pokémon on switch in
@@daiMac_ oh. I forgot about toxic spikes. He had just mentioned against mela and atticus use covert and balloon respectively to avoid statuses. I just forgot it keeps you from being spikes.

I do love how much shit Grusha talks for such a joke of a gym leader. If you ever want to completely embarass him get a garganacl and give him leftovers. Set up one iron defense while fighting his frosmoth that can't do anything to you, kill it with salt cure, then proceed to body press his team to a different dimension while laughing at his cetitan dealing a whole 10 damage to you with liquidation and the rest of his team not being able to touch you.
Nuzlockes in games that are fully open world just don't feel as good to me, I enjoy the completely random encounters and such so I just stick with the older games.
