  • A review of the popular Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX9 camera and how it can absolutely be a lower cost alternative to the popular Fujifilm X100 series, specifically the X100VI. You may be surprised how well it holds up against the more expensive Fuji. Photo, video examples.overview of the camera and more!

    Own and love my GX9.
Small and lightweight. You are right about the PL15 lens. A killer street combination. My favorite feature is the L monochrome D B&W jpeg. Like it more than Acros with the red filter.
A major feature the GX9 has is the availability. I preordered the Fuji X100VI and canceled the order after waiting three months. The GX9 is difficult to find but not impossible. Bought the GX9 with the 12-60 lens for $700. You are right. The GX9 is a winner.

Honestly surprised they haven’t released a proper point and shoot in years now. The S9 is such a strange camera it lacks what it needs to be a Fuji competitor but it’s so close with the LUTS.

Looking forward to watching this video! Before I do, I just have a quick question (I know its irrelevant to this video) but, what tripod do you use with the Nikon Coolpix P1000? I ordered mine recently and I am in need of a tripod!
    Many thanks!

Hey there! Believe it or not, I usually hand hold the camera (which is kind of crazy) and when I do use a tripod I just have a very basic one which I have from Amazon. But when I was doing professional work, I would always use a solid tripod because with a long zoom that really will make a big difference especially with a camera like the P1000. There are tons of models to choose from but what I recommend is to get a tripod made by Bogen (their new name is Manfrotto) who make great reliable products. You can go to Amazon or B and H Photo and look them up and see what fits into your price range!

    I think GX9 and G9 doesn't have the same 20Mpx sensor...

My mentor once said: “you can buy an affordable camera and spend money on a ticket, travel and take amazing images, or you buy the latest camera from Leica, sit down at home and make photos of your toilet since you are broke.”
A portrait of someone from a remote country looks better on a cheaper camera than a toilet on the phase one

The big draw of Fuji is that you can get away with no editing. I love Lumix, but with the old cameras you have to at the least throw a LR preset on it. Not a big deal to me, but for some people being able to directly upload to social media is a big draw.
I am personally not convinced by the out-of-camera jpgs. This is something they fixed with the new cameras. The S9 out-of-camera images look great. My G9II raw files need very little correction, and the luts are super useful - I do not want to color grade my home videos if I can avoid it. And the Lumix Lab app is awesome. For my purposes it can replace Lightroom mobile. Let's just hope they stop being silly and just release a Gx9II.
