The issue I think most people had is that CZcamsrs were blatantly promoting this product without doing any kind of research into it. Even at a high level, anyone with any experience in investing or business immediately knew this product and business were going to fail. There were red flags everywhere.

I think Pat was just giving some of you guys a hard time because he was crapped on so much for expressing doubts in the business model for the Amico, and his doubts were ultimately proven to be valid concerns. Personally, I feel that Pat depicted you in a very sympathetic light in that video; the NES Punk character gets duped into financially investing a lot of money into the Amico just like you and even ends up shirtless like you at one point in the video. If anything, it was critical of TT and co. for taking all this money from fans while not delivering the system that he promised to them in the end.

I wouldn't call it being aggressive at all. Also their opinion at the time is even more understandable considering the Coleco Chameleon incident had just happened.
I agree. The problem is Tommy made it personal, attacking Pat and Ian for how they look or their possessions and the supporters went with the tide. Atari Age went on board and banned any Amico critics and it only helped Tommy scam more people. Pat made a lot of good observations about open hiring positions (SW Dev) and how far from done Amico was at that time. Promising to deliver the final product to the backers in November/December and still using a prototype in August with all the bureaucracy and time needed to manufacture a product.

Pat considered him a nice guy to talk to, but it was probably that personal video directed at Pat and Ian, to invite them to his company and his home (and even cook them a meal), which came on too strong and rubbed Pat the wrong way. It was Tommy's way of guilt tripping to stand strong and maintain a positive relationship.

I know people like Tommy. He is pathological, he can come off as down to earth, cool guy vibe, but he is being disingenuous with an agenda. It’s easy to say he really believed there would be a console released, but he knew deep down it was never going to happen. He put all of his energy to making it look like it would happen rather than the tedious discipline required. This will live on in the gaming community like Bernie Madoff lives on in the crime community. Obviously it doesn’t rise to the level of Madoff, but it was no question a scam all the way. He lied to everyone including himself. A pathological person is use to creating a fantasy world not based in reality, and they believe their own lies. The excessive offices spaces, hiring employees without any clear tasks happening, all major red flags. He'll be lucky if he doesn’t face a criminal investigation over this, because this has all the hallmarks of fraud.
I wasn't against the Amico at first, I thought at first it could have found a small niece but ultimately wouldn't be that successful in the larger market. However, I think this has become way too personal with all parties involved. Nobody should be attacked for asking legitimate questions. At the end of the day "Intellivision" is/was a company and they should be held to those standards. Asking questions about missed ship dates, production quality of preview units and frankly bizarre public announcements is valid. Whenever Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft misstep people are quick to come in and ask the hard questions putting them on blast, but for some reason a lot of people gave Tommy and Intellivision a pass, letting them get away with obvious red flags, that the ship was slowly sinking. At the end of the day, the Amico was a failure and there is no path to recovery at this point. The best-case scenario now is that this thing comes out and then immediately fails, as the whole thought process behind it was flawed and developed by people who don't know how to read the room and can't take any feedback that isn't positive.. When I saw that pitch decks where they were aiming to recapture what the Wii started, I knew this was DOA. The market it was aiming for moved on from dedicated hardware and to mobile gaming almost a decade ago. You can see that from late Wii sales and how the Wii U immediately faceplanted.
Yup, at the original price point I figured: "Hey, you know, one more gaming system that is pretty simple but might have a decent number of games released. And the controllers look laggy but maybe you can do something cool with them." It wasn't going to be one of those junk RCA all-in-one consoles, but an ACTUAL new console that wasn't Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo. I didn't have high hopes for it, but I had hopes that there were a few hours of enjoyment possible from it. But after more and more came out I got really annoyed. Old cell phone hardware (which I guess should have kept the price low at the $100-$150 mark.. but still)? NFC cards that aren't even encrypted so you could buy a game that was used while still sealed? The entire AtariAge forum? The people who literally spouted absolute falsehoods and lies at anyone questioning things (like.. well.. a cult)? So much added up badly, and then the price increase to the cost of a Switch. That wasn't the final straw, as that line had been crossed long ago by the CEOs directing an online lynch mob, videos and demonstrations with paid repeated supporters and no announcements really for where the system could be seen/tested, showing fake games, games with stolen assets, and saying the system was ready to release with no firmware/cloud system/and no answers for "What if we buy these games and you shut down?" At this point, I either want to see it release and fail, as you said, or just straight up go bankrupt so people no longer have any expectations and know to just write everything off.
I don’t think anyone with any sense will start hating on the people that supported the Amico. I was really excited when it was announced too. But Tommy is just slimy. Had no idea before this train wreck of a console “release” came along. Tommy has been lying for decades.
Hey, I used to be somebody who thought the Coleco Chameleon sounded like a pretty cool idea. A low cost, modern meets retro system that gets ports of old schoolish stuff done new again, that kinda thing. Sound anything like the Amico?! I only know you from that Pat video, so I do appreciate you saying your piece. There was a turning point when I knew the Chameleon was never coming out & changed sides on it.
I really had high hopes for the Chameleon. Especially all the talk of FPGA adapters for the various consoles. But eventually the MiSTer kind of filled that niche for the enthusiast market.
It's all in good fun. Sometimes when you end up being right, you get to rub it in a bit. Ian is probably more salty than Pat deep down, about what other CZcamsrs have said. "Gaming Racists" is still the most lulz to come of all this though hahaha.

I was on board just like you, but I did not invest, but I wanted to play games with my 2 year old. I thought this would be a good system to start even before nintendo. I appreciate your honesty. When you suddenly felt like you were getting screwed you came forward and told us. you didn't continue to push it and say it was something that it was not. My 2 year old is now 5 playing Nintendo Switch.

It only really scraped the surface in regards to the Amico and focused more on Tommy himself, but having met Tommy, and knowing what you now know about the Amico fiasco, how did it feel to you to watch that and see lie after lie from Tommy be exposed and debunked?
Honestly it was very eye opening and affirmed a lot of my recent suspicions on Tommy. His insecurities, lies, deceit… just sad… and really too bad, because deep down, I know there’s a good guy in there, but unfortunately- Tommy is fighting too many demons.

He may have lost 10k, but Smash has been in the stock markets long enough that I don't think he'd ever invest what he couldn't really just lose fully. And he's still recouped at least some of it, though I kind of feel not all of it. It's just a risk, and while he was drawn into the whole thing deeply by Tommy and others, I have to think he still thought: "pro vs con" in the logical parts of his mind. My concern is that not everyone is like Smash and set to lose 10k or their investments (or even pre-order money) since they can't recoup it via content creation online for CZcams. Since there is only one place to get any info anymore (DJC channel), I kind of wish Smash could still get us something. It's aggravating that Intellivision actually snubbed one of their big investors who publicly went to bat so hard for them. Beyond losing money, it's like you have to also write off anyone project these guys are ever apart of again.

While Pat's video was entertaining, I felt a few clips was taken out of context regarding a few of the CZcamsrs and a bit unfair to point out that you and proply others who did change thier minds. Would have been nice to see a funny bit at the end regarding the fact that some of the CZcamsrs admitting to thier errors and thier criticism of Intellivision. Funny part Amico is doing better than ever. They even shipped units out. And they are getting rave reviews. Pat and Ian weren't right about anything. Seems like Tommy Tallarico had move away from the Intellivision Amico, only Phil Adam and John Alverado are still trying to convince people that the console is still coming when the writings are already on the wall. It's almost close to the anniversary of their unboxing of the console and it seems there are no video update of when the thing will launch.

I know people like Tommy. He is pathological, he can come off as down to earth, cool guy vibe, but he is being disingenuous with an agenda. It’s easy to say he really believed there would be a console released, but he knew deep down it was never going to happen. He put all of his energy to making it look like it would happen rather than the tedious discipline required. This will live on in the gaming community like Bernie Madoff lives on in the crime community. Obviously it doesn’t rise to the level of Madoff, but it was no question a scam all the way. He lied to everyone including himself. A pathological person is use to creating a fantasy world not based in reality, and they believe their own lies. The excessive offices spaces, hiring employees without any clear tasks happening, all major red flags. He'll be lucky if he doesn’t face a criminal investigation over this, because this has all the hallmarks of fraud.
Also, wishing it to happen does not equal logically expecting it to happen. I do believe he wished for it to be, but he didn't have the drive.

I wasn't against the Amico at first, I thought at first it could have found a small niece but ultimately wouldn't be that successful in the larger market. However, I think this has become way too personal with all parties involved.
Nobody should be attacked for asking legitimate questions. At the end of the day "Intellivision" is/was a company and they should be held to those standards. Asking questions about missed ship dates, production quality of preview units and frankly bizarre public announcements is valid. Whenever Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft misstep people are quick to come in and ask the hard questions putting them on blast, but for some reason a lot of people gave Tommy and Intellivision a pass, letting them get away with obvious red flags, that the ship was slowly sinking.
At the end of the day, the Amico was a failure and there is no path to recovery at this point. The best-case scenario now is that this thing comes out and then immediately fails, as the whole thought process behind it was flawed and developed by people who don't know how to read the room and can't take any feedback that isn't positive.. When I saw that pitch decks where they were aiming to recapture what the Wii started, I knew this was DOA. The market it was aiming for moved on from dedicated hardware and to mobile gaming almost a decade ago. You can see that from late Wii sales and how the Wii U immediately faceplanted.
Yup, at the original price point I figured: "Hey, you know, one more gaming system that is pretty simple but might have a decent number of games released. And the controllers look laggy but maybe you can do something cool with them." It wasn't going to be one of those junk RCA all-in-one consoles, but an ACTUAL new console that wasn't Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo. I didn't have high hopes for it, but I had hopes that there were a few hours of enjoyment possible from it.
But after more and more came out I got really annoyed. Old cell phone hardware (which I guess should have kept the price low at the $100-$150 mark.. but still)? NFC cards that aren't even encrypted so you could buy a game that was used while still sealed? The entire AtariAge forum? The people who literally spouted absolute falsehoods and lies at anyone questioning things (like.. well.. a cult)?
So much added up badly, and then the price increase to the cost of a Switch. That wasn't the final straw, as that line had been crossed long ago by the CEOs directing an online lynch mob, videos and demonstrations with paid repeated supporters and no announcements really for where the system could be seen/tested, showing fake games, games with stolen assets, and saying the system was ready to release with no firmware/cloud system/and no answers for "What if we buy these games and you shut down?" At this point, I either want to see it release and fail, as you said, or just straight up go bankrupt so people no longer have any expectations and know to just write everything off.
I don’t think anyone with any sense will start hating on the people that supported the Amico. I was really excited when it was announced too. But Tommy is just slimy. Had no idea before this train wreck of a console “release” came along. Tommy has been lying for decades.

Hey, I used to be somebody who thought the Coleco Chameleon sounded like a pretty cool idea. A low cost, modern meets retro system that gets ports of old schoolish stuff done new again, that kinda thing. Sound anything like the Amico?! I only know you from that Pat video, so I do appreciate you saying your piece. There was a turning point when I knew the Chameleon was never coming out & changed sides on it.
I really had high hopes for the Chameleon. Especially all the talk of FPGA adapters for the various consoles. But eventually the MiSTer kind of filled that niche for the enthusiast market.
It's all in good fun. Sometimes when you end up being right, you get to rub it in a bit.

I was on board just like you, but I did not invest, but I wanted to play games with my 2 year old. I thought this would be a good system to start even before nintendo. I appreciate your honesty. When you suddenly felt like you were getting screwed you came forward and told us. you didn't continue to push it and say it was something that it was not. My 2 year old is now 5 playing Nintendo Switch.

I'm wondering what you think of hbomberguy's video? It only really scraped the surface in regards to the Amico and focused more on Tommy himself, but having met Tommy, and knowing what you now know about the Amico fiasco, how did it feel to you to watch that and see lie after lie from Tommy be exposed and debunked?
Honestly it was very eye opening and affirmed a lot of my recent suspicions on Tommy. His insecurities, lies, deceit… just sad… and really too bad, because deep down, I know there’s a good guy in there, but unfortunately- Tommy is fighting too many demons.

He may have lost 10k, but Smash has been in the stock markets long enough that I don't think he'd ever invest what he couldn't really just lose fully. And he's still recouped at least some of it, though I kind of feel not all of it. It's just a risk, and while he was drawn into the whole thing deeply by Tommy and others, I have to think he still thought: "pro vs con" in the logical parts of his mind. My concern is that not everyone is like Smash and set to lose 10k or their investments (or even pre-order money) since they can't recoup it via content creation online for CZcams.
Since there is only one place to get any info anymore (DJC channel), I kind of wish Smash could still get us something. It's aggravating that Intellivision actually snubbed one of their big investors who publicly went to bat so hard for them. Beyond losing money, it's like you have to also write off anyone project these guys are ever apart of again.

While Pat's video was entertaining, I felt a few clips was taken out of context regarding a few of the CZcamsrs and a bit unfair to point out that you and proply others who did change thier minds. Would have been nice to see a funny bit at the end regarding the fact that some of the CZcamsrs admitting to thier errors and thier criticism of Intellivision. Basically allowing the CZcamsrs to be more human and point out the true problems here that individuals like Tommy pulled the woll over everyone eyes with their money.
At the end of the day no one is perfect and I'm happy to listen to your perspective. Great video! I'm glad you owned it and were able to turn it into a positive learning experience.
Funny part Amico is doing better than ever. They even shipped units out. And they are getting rave reviews. Pat and Ian weren't right about anything. They were jealous and hated Tommy before he even started working with Intellivision. Once Amico breaks sales records it be neat to see what they say... lol

Best Buy in Canada pre orders for Amico are sold out and very high demand. Should be 30 million units sold just in Canada alone... Try turning off the negative press and you will see the Amico light
