  • Outdoor Walks are one of the most important parts of every beagle's life. Most of us take our dogs out for walks at least once every day. And it could be a nightmare to walk a beagle who pulls or lunges. So in this video, I will show you how to leash train your Beagle the right way.

I am a beagle owner myself and raising him was the toughest thing as there was hardly any beagle specific information on the internet. So I took it on me and decided to share all the knowledge that I learned the hard way. In my videos, I cover all kinds of topics related specifically to beagles. So make sure to subscribe to our channel as I upload 2 videos every week.

There are a lot of comments about how some beagles have “naturally” become leash trained and I just think every beagle is different. My mother-in-law & I take our beagles for a long walk consistently at the exact same time every night. After a year her older male beagle is very well behaved on the leash while my young female beagle is so not. She still does every single thing mentioned in this video. Neither of them are fixed & overall my beagle is more trained than hers. So I think it just comes down to them having different personalities. I think this video is great for those whose dogs aren’t “naturally” becoming trained just from consistently walking them alone. Thanks for the info!

Please let me share my beagle training. Harness is definitely not a good idea for my puppy at the moment because it gives him more opportunities to pull. Treats work well with him but I’m trying to make him focus on walk without treats. Rewarding him with sweet encouragement and decent pets also work pretty well. Let him sniff and have his own space sometimes to make his walk not too stressful. However, I do need to give him commands to make him realize that it’s not just his walk but also my walk 🤣

My beagle was used for hunting. I adopted him when he was 7 years old. He's very calm and laid back in the house, but when we walk him, he goes into hunting mode. (Lots of rabbits in the neighborhood). His desire to hunt rabbits is stronger than his love of food. I don't think any amount of training is going take the hunt out of him.

Hi there! We have beagle and a cat.
We got our beagle first. Then after 4 months, we adopted a cat to be our dogs' companion.
At first week, our new cat couldnt get along with our dog. Beagles are super friendly, that why they chases cats. Our dog wanted to play with the cat, wherever our cat was, our dog will automatically follow and just sit 1 foot away with our cat. Our cat was irritated by the gesture.
But after 2-3 weeks, at night we tried caging them together in 1 crate.
And that's how they become close.

Beagles are always sniffers. It's how they see the world. At 5 months he's still going through mapping the area. As he gets used to the route this will change. But he'll always potentially come up with a new smell. Just be patient and all will work itself out. I envy the years of love and joy you have ahead of you.

You could check Tucker Budyzn videos for how she does it (I'm not sure if there is a video tho)
And don't forget to lock your main door always. Beagle can easily get distracted by smells. Get a collar with your number and address (Amazon has great ones, I got one from Pally pets' products) and ask you vet about microchip for your beagle ( this helps to track them when they get lost)

You can get bitter apple spray, which tastes really bad, and spray it on things you don't want him to touch. Mine chewed everything initially (I adopted him at just over a year old, so it wasn't just puppy teething). I believe it's anxiety, and chewing is a comfort. I had to keep everything up high, but he is gradually stopping the behaviour as he gets more and more relaxed and confident. Lots of bully sticks, cow hooves and bones will help him through what is hopefully a phase.

The truth is that beagles can be quite challenging - if you read the comments here you will see many of the common traits/issues. Don't get me wrong, I adore mine, but I'm retired and have lots of time for him - at 13 I suspect your time may be quite limited. Good training helps, but you are looking at an active hunting dog that typically cannot be allowed off leash outside because they are "nose driven" and are often deaf to commands when their hunting instincts and nose take over. They can be quite stubborn, they love to chew anything and everything, can howl persistently, and are very food driven. While mine is the sweetest and most sociable dog at the dog park, I find it very tough to take him, for instance, to anyone's house as he will try to get into and/or will try and chew everything. I'm not saying you shouldn't, but do your research on breed characteristics before you make a choice as finding the right fit for your situation is so important.

U focus lots on treats for everything u teach to ur dog. Packaged treats bought from outside is not good for a dog in the long run. Instead use home made treats to train a dog. Also no need for number of fancy things like clicker, harness, treats etc to leash train a dog, one can train them just by being firm while taking them for a walk.
