My issue with thatcher is she seems to have been the one that sold British industry down the river and made us rely on an unstable services sector. Wouldn't it have been better if we had gone more down germany's route and kept our manufacturing. For example you look at the British car industry compared to America, Japan, South Korea and our European neighbours. Almost all of our so called British car companies are owned by foreign companies and its quite sad to see.

Her main economic goal was to conquer inflation. Yet the rate was the same when she left office. Unemployment became really shocking - 35% male unemployment in my town when I left school in 1983. Mrs. Thatcher deserves credit for being the first female PM and for making some moves towards ending the Cold War. On many other issues, she was wrong.
