    When you look at the slow motion of olympic lifters their body and facial expression look as if they drink tea or warm milk before bed. It’s amazing that you can be so stable and have such control over such a heavy thing in your hands.
    Also, calling it heavy is an understatement. I think the reality of how strong these guys actually are despite all the technical work is just crazy.

      it is indeed super-human awesomeness to even snatch your own bodyweight - these guys and girls snatch twice that. Mindblowing stuff ! Ive been practicing snatch for 3 weeks now - 2 times pr week, and can barely snatch 40 kg (a bit less than half my bodyweight).

    In the last few years, I've watched almost all Klokov videos, either from seminars or his competition videos.. and every time he explicitly explains that you should NOT jump, but rather "slide" your feet to the catch position, I find it way more stable and efficient.

    Not sure if you're gonna read this, but I would disagree on the importance of the time feet hit the floor. I've been watching Rebeka Koha videos, and you can see her feet hit the floor quite early - as in Emily Bridgers clip, even if her snatch is pretty efficient. To me, this is an indicator that Maligov is aggressively pulling his legs upwards during the 3rd pull, but I don't know whether this is a good cue to apply or not. Great content man, keep it up!

    • @zacktelander
      @zacktelander  Před 6 lety +4

      heimdall hey man luckily I was looking at my phone when you wrote this. I would say that my verbiage is a little wrong but the intent is there. The feet are a good indicator but what should have been said is “pressure in the feet” you’ll see Chinese lifters with there feet down incredibly early but the pressure isn’t there which would indicate them still actively pulling under in proper timing. In Emily’s case her timing is much more poor than Kohas or the Chinese lifters and the pressure or weight in the feet would show that. Thank you for your comment!

    I know this is a long time ago for Telander, and the concepts remain true, but his examples of technique are not reliable visual reinforcement. Whenever he drops under with those progressions, it looks like he let's the bar crash on top of him, even at a light weight. Focus on pulling vertically up and then think about going down as the bar soars towards your overhead position. Be patient with this. American lifting has very rough time with dropping under the bar or pulling too early.

    Just found your channel and I almost instantly subbed.
    Your snatch and clean videos are awesome, same for programming for max strength!
    I have one question, do you know why I might be getting wrist pain in the snatch/OH squat after I moved my grip further out to the "proper width"? I noticed you have your hands a tiny bit more out than I do, any fixes for this? Apart from obviously moving my hands in.

    • @zacktelander
      @zacktelander  Před 7 lety +2

      Interesting. There is a lot of pressure in the wrists during either of the classic lifts/OHS. It's hard to say what to do but what I can say is that you have to take care of the wrists like you would any other joint. It also depends how long you have been snatching or putting the barbell overhead. It's somewhat like the hookgrip in the sense that it sucks at first but then you get used to it. If it is unbearable, stop and put the bar on your back for squats and do snatch pulls/clean pulls. If it is bearable, keep on training hard.

  • @krnrrr
    @krnrrr Před 7 lety +1

    the comparison shots are great stuff! however, there's something that sounds too raw for me in locking elbows as soon as you hit the ground. for newbies that means they will never be able to compete the lift unless they muscle snatch it. so, one must take that advice with a grain of salt.
    the point is - they catch too high. the majority even doesn't know what the actual snatch is and do power snatches instead. you lock to high - you miss the lift, because - i bet - the barbell is already descending, and in front of you, so you're not ready to catch it. your advice is a very good one, but that's my experience, and i think this should be outlined in a word-two when saying about lockout. too much effort in lockout always slows down the lifter, so the thing is - you must be in position first.

    • @zacktelander
      @zacktelander  Před 7 lety +1

      Any cue or technique that I talk about while doing the "tall" series of the lifts is only a cue that I would use for those drills. In other words I wouldn't cue someone to pull under the bar if they were just pulling from the floor. This position (the tall position) is meant to take out the first and second pull entirely and just focus on the feeling of the bar in the pull under.
      I completely understand your sentiment but please try to understand that these lifts I suggest are merely a progression and are simply drills that supplement the full movement.

    • @krnrrr
      @krnrrr Před 7 lety
