This has been a wild ride for me. I discovered something insane that no one has seen yet. The strange "gumball" page on the Spamton Sweepstakes site has been looked over by many. Most assumed it was just a joke by Toby Fox. But not me. As it turns out, the gumball machine is one of the biggest, most complicated secrets in all of Deltarune!

...I ORIGINALLY thought it was just in reference to something we'd find in the later chapters, some mystery character that would be a Gumball Machine, maybe a key character, a secret boss, or maybe it was just a random enemy that's a gumball machine.
But it is _strange_ for multiple stock images of the machine to be so heavily modified together. The amount of work for something that would be so, so simple is... Interesting.

Thanks to this I figured something out! In the sweepstakes site, in the Shirtwear 1.04s Spamton Update Patch, "[chewed up bubblegum wrappers]" is mentioned, alongside also making fun of a "[scrap heap]", which usually a piece of discarded metal or machinery!
"[scrap heap]" leads to "ramb" (Anyone know what that means?) Which is the Green Room that includes the TV that * It's off. I think "[scrap heap]" is referring to Tenna. Especially since Tenna would be a celebrity & thus have "custom embroideries."

Isn't "these chewed up Spamton wrappers" something Spamton A said during the stream which was then played off as him misreading something? I wonder if that had anything to do with this
Scrap heap is also just a name for junk, such as an old TV. But the gum wrappers thing is an interesting note for sure.
considering the footage you used, i'm surprised that you didn't also mention how the theoretical creation process of this gumball machine image is unnervingly similar to how we make our vessel during the gonermaker sequence. photoshop vessel fight confirmed???

This gumball machine was on my mind for way longer than I'd like to admit because it just felt so off and disconnected and I'm so glad you decided to look into it. Definetely crazy how you found out about the stock photo mashups, some serious detective work!
The whole animation theory seems really plausible and I can totally see Toby using photos in weird and wacky ways in future chapters.
I think he had to edit all those gumball machine images together because one will appear in the game, and he couldn't find a reference photo that precisely matches. If this PRECISE design is going to appear in the game, I think it's going to be a character. You can easily make out what seems to be a mustache nose and mouth. And it's easy to imagine the machine filled with gumballs that form eyes
Edit: Also if it IS a character, there's a good chance that someplace with a gumball machine is going to be the next Dark World. Ice-E's pizzaria

What if the photoshopping was not to make it animatable, but to make it match a sprite? Maybe a secret boss may be a gumball machine with a sprite that resembles it.

An actual canon omega fight in Deltarune would be so interesting, I’m surprised you guys found all of this from just a gumball machine!
Sounds insane at first pass, but honestly ICE-E gets given so much presence in Deltarune that I expect he'll show up as a Darkner since he's an imaginary character given life. Basically I bet he's going to become what Kris said they were to scare Noelle.
What do you think are going to be the main worlds? ICE-E's pizza seems to be a good shout, Flower King for certain too, then I really think it depends, the Church I think, and finally the mound at the end of town

Very interesting! I always thought the glass looked edited, but assumed it was for style or such. I didn't consider that Toby didn't NEED to change a stock image to use it; The point of stock stuff is you can use it as you find it! So it's weird to edit a Stock image. The webpage says for it, "You won a prize!", right?
Something I think is very interesting is, AFAIK, gumball machines aren't known to use coin detecting lasers like vending machines do. So the rotator after you put the coin in the slot NEEDS to be there, to properly take & keep the coin. So how does this one work? Personally, I think with all the visual edits, & the absent rotator, it was pieced together from multiple stock images so it could look photorealistic BUT resemble a face: The edited glass can look like a head or hair, the coin slot a nose, the edited rotator a mustache, & the hole is a mouth.
So I think there is some merit to assuming this might be for a character, & calling it a prize is meant like a red herring.
I assume it's not a metaphor, right? Made of multiple pieces edited together, with something sweet & desirable inside with a cost. Some might consider that like the Vessel or a human. Could that be how Spamton sees Kris & such? But this isn't a proper-looking gumball machine. Spamton, a salesman, probably wouldn't envision an improper looking Gumball machine.

I’m gonna tip you off to something I noticed while looking through the deltarune website store. On one of the pieces of merchandise with jevil on it, right below it shows one of the horse float from his attacks. The reason I’m even telling you this is because the the head of the float is the Everyman’s head. If you didn’t know, there is a small chance that during the attack, the horse head will change to the one of the Everyman. There is not much known about the Everyman but he appears in 3 attacks across deltarune and undertale. First during a reaperbird attack in the true lab. Second in the jevil fight and third, during queens fight. When the icons are scrolling down the screen and an words fly at you, there is a chance that one of the icons will be the Everyman although he doesn’t say anything. The reason I bring this up is during the spamton sweepstakes event, there was a chance that the icons for the donations could be the Everyman. It looks exactly like it does in queens attack.
The whole thing with the merch, to reiterate, they went out of there way to put an obscure detail that most players will never notice on a product.This is clearly not a coincidence. The Everyman is a more important character than we realized.
Actually, there is one more time in the game where the Everyman appears, when you are fighting the pop ups in chapter 2, there is a chance that some of the pop-ups will have a picture of the Everyman.
I actually, unironically, think Everyman is the Knight. He’s the only character besides Kris’s friends who’s been to both Dark Worlds. There’s even graffiti of him in the Light World.
Also, Everyman showed up in Undertale’s True Lab. That’s where Gaster used to work. He isn’t likely connected to Alphys since he’s not an Amalgamate, so I assume he knew Gaster.
Maybe Everyman was abandoned by him? That might explain why he goes insane in his attacks in Undertale. Also, if we assume Gaster fell into the Dark World, Everyman might want to make more darkness to see Gaster again.
Holy [[shot]], I think I might be right. Everyman is (probably) the Roaring Knight.
I think that’s a pretty cool theory. If I had to guess an ability of the Everyman, it would be shapeshifting. It’s a white blob that seems to be omnipresent in the deltarune universe. There isn’t anything to suggest that it is not an amalgamate. Amalgamates already have proven to have the ability of shapeshifting. Hence the name “Every”man because he can disguise as anyone. It seems to be watching Kris, or better yet the soul. It’s motives are not clear yet but it seems to have a keen interest in either Kris or us. There is the possibility that the Everyman could be the man giving us the eggs behind the tree. The Everyman is a bird after all so it is within the realm of possibility. We seem to plant the eggs all around town, one in Asgore’s fridge and one in Sans’s store. The eggs seem to carry more meaning with the spamton sweepstakes discovery.

the everyman never actually physically shows up in neither one of the dark worlds as far as I can tell, only actually "appearing" during jevil's fight but he doesn't take his regular shape. I don't remember him appearing in chapter 2 other than in the form of an advertisement.
everyman showed up as an amalgamate attack, so it seems pretty unlikely that they would just randomly know gaster. I mean the actual amalgamate is reaperbird.
furthermore it seems super random to make the everyman, an undertale "character" that just randomly appears when fighting reaperbird, the supposed main antagonist of deltarune. there's nothing to suggest he isn't just some random joke character or a reference to undertale right now.
in the actual deltarune universe I think he's just a mascot of some kind lmao and that's why he just sometimes appears.
Lots of interesting thoughts here (more of hypotheses than theories, but cool). There's also the graffiti of Everyman at the back of the alley in DR (Along with Ice-E). I actually think that Everyman is sort of the monster equivalent of a stick figure. Since monsters are so many different shapes and sizes, it's kind of hard to sum them up in a simple visual manner. But, the Everyman might be a way to do that. That might also be why the training dummies resemble Everyman, as well. (And the stuffed toys in the kids' bedrooms in Toriel's & Asgore's houses, while they COULD be interpreted as goat monsters, they also look like they could basically be Teddy Everymen. With upturned moses & chubby cheeks the way teddy bears' cutified features barely [bear-ly, hehe] resemble actual bears, due to the psychological instinct to see infantilized features as cute.)
So, it might kind of just be a representation of every man (in the monster sense). You can imagine them as anyone, including yourself. You can use them to represent you.
...Almost like how we think of characters we create or play as in a video game.
(It's pretty much the only way I can think of to rationalize what's happening in the Reaperbird fight. They basically conjure up an effigy & bombard you with the vision, "This is YOU, & your head is being DEVOURED BY MOTHS! COWER IN FEAR!")

Completely unrelated to the video, but on this website, in the closet minigame, I once clicked one of the closets. I think it was the chair one, definitely not the Ralsei/gumball machine one, but, I clicked the chair/whatever that was and it showed me Spamton's eyes, and then quit back to the closet minigame. It happened so quickly, I wasn't even able to see if the tab title has changed.
Not sure if others have figured this out but I thought I’d put my two cents in.
First off, the location of the “prizes” form an upside down 7, imo it might be a nod to chess theory bc that’s the motion a knight makes on a chess board. Secondly, the first letters of the “prizes” images spell out:

Then, the last two.

Eyes (it says ‘chair’ but if you click/drag the image it says ‘Eyes’)

Calling it now, the secret boss fight in the Church chapter will most likely be Omega Ice-e. I vaguely remember that in the Spamton Sweepstakes it was revealed that Kris had to bury down a pizza box featuring ice-e on HomeTowns cemetery, and going with the theme of discarded objects it really seems like a nice fit. Perhaps not even an Omega Ice-e per se, but rather as his final attack, like the True Neo Chaos or the giant spamton NEO segment
If the reflections were added in editing, is there any way we can reverse photoshop them to figure out what image they're reflecting? This seems like a loose end, and it's a crazy enough hiding place for some secret that I'm sure Toby would've used it.
They seem like just generic white shines. But that is definitely still a possibility to consider.
I, honestly, thought that this is foreshadowing of a secret boss which symbolises greed/gluttony, but your theory is quite unique, especially Omega Flowey part

A completely crazy theory that still makes quite a bit of sense. Having a Omega ICE-E joke boss as an homage to Omega Flowey sounds exactly like Toby Fox's sense of humor, especially when it ties into lore and cryptic hints like this.
Edit: And even if the theory turns out to be wrong, it's a testament to TOby's sensibilities that something this crazy sounds plausable.

I can’t remember if I had the idea in a dream or if I came up with it when going to sleep, but I came up with an idea for The Roaring.
Yknow how Dark Worlds look all whimsical and beautiful? What if when The Roaring happens, thats flipped on its head and the world around you is creepily using high res photoshopped textures
Imagine a cut out from black after the roaring happens. It’s Kris standing in the middle of Hometown, there’s really loud deep wind ambience playing, the road has actual concrete texture, the grass has actual grass texture, everything looks so scarily realistic and sewn together that it’s terrifying…

I saw someone somewhere point out the edited image looked like a crystal ball. I think its supposed to be where the shadow crystals came from or maybe they assemble into it, I don't know how it being a gumball machine will be relevant to the story though, its possible its just a result of the way the dark worlds transform inanimate objects
As hilarious and/or frightening an Omega Ice-E would be, I don’t think that’s what this is. Personally, I think it might just be referencing a future character that is a gumball machine, and the reason Toby Fox hacksawed a bunch of different gumball machines together is because Toby couldn’t find an image that resembled said character, and so he made his own. I have no evidence for this, but it made sense to me.
As a composite reference, that IS done sometimes by artists. But we've all seen that Toby can scribble, & has even gotten better at actually drawing (& he's been doing that, & typing, a lot more lately, so I think his wrists are doing better. Maybe he even had that surgery he mentioned wanting to get).
But Photoshopping with this much precision & detail, just for reference to plan regular ol' low-res pixel art, seems like overkill. & the fact that each part is distinct as a piece definitely does lend potential to animation plans where those parts may involve layers, separation, or movement.
this genuinely feels so obvious in retrospect, like the first time i watched through this i was fully losing my mind, but watching again i can't believe i couldn't see that this is EXACTLY how i would stylize a gumball machine to be a face. it definitely feels like it's foreshadowing another darkner ! great catch!!!

The smile on the TV in CH 2 could be used in the fight since people already therorized that CH 2 was a reference to Flowey, and CH 1 was a reference to Chara.
I doubt we're getting a second Photoshop fight, but there are some weird details about the gumball machine, like the missing/broken coin mechanism and the lack of gumballs. I think we're getting a secret boss tease.

Was the fake chapter 4 secret boss Skuntle Gumballer his small fight was amazing. Until we discovered that kris after removing his soul in chapter 3 actually hid the frozen snowgrave berdly inside the Ice-e Frostbear animatronic and making berdly live with remaining juice.
Dude it was so cool seeing berdly perform the bite of 87 battery acid energy drinks as his final special attack.

What's so eerie about the gumball machine to me is that it has no turning mechanism... so this thing isn't built to dispense items. It literally is incapable of it. That explains why it has nothing inside it, i suppose. ...Maybe the opening is actually a mouth? As in, its the opposite of a gumball machine, things can only go into its opening and not out. I can imagine our soul rattling around in that clear dome...
Yeah... Since secret bosses so far have had a shared theme of being discarded (& other Darkners as well showing how the loneliness can twist them, like Spade King), a broken gumball machine would potentially fit into the pattern. Although, maybe some layers are missing that will be present later. Maybe there will also be a handle layer, which might turn on its own or we can do actions to turn it, & the globe may contain all sorts of things.
Maybe gumballs that will fly out & we gotta dodge them.
Maybe various toys like bouncy balls, figurines, etc that will fight us in phases.
Or maybe some characters (Darkners or party members) will be trapped in there, & the goal is to try & release them. (Maybe with a randomized or patterned element of sometimes releasing allies, & sometimes enemies/attacks.)
Its either omega icee or toby spending too much work on something meaningless to drive us crazy analyzing what it means when its nothing toby would do both

Or maybe Toby wanted to make sure that every image he used was "original" in some way, and he thought that having a directly copied stock image in the middle of a sea of original art, wouldn't make sense.
I actually love this theory, due in part to a theory of my own that I’ve got… I think Ice-E is behind Dess’ disappearance somehow. I don’t have much in the way of evidence yet, but I think it’s important to note that a lot of the information we’ve got surrounding Ice-E has come from Noelle. Noelle googled “Is Ice-E cryptid real” in her room in chapter 2, and it also just so happens that in the same room was the calendar provided from “search query: December Holiday”. Also, Noelle saw Ice-E wink at her in the blogpost, to which Dess burned out its eyes. And Kris apparently told her Ice-E was real and eats kids. All this stuff alluding to Ice-E being a sinister figure of some type coming from Noelle’s pov. And for the cherry on top, if you take the Ice-E cryptid statue to bring back to your room, it says “this maybe isn’t the best thing in your room”. Why? What reason would Kris have to dislike having Ice-E’s presence in his room? I believe Kris SAW Ice-E take Dess, and he might have been trying to tell Noelle about it with the bit about Ice-E being real and eating kids, but it was a boy who cried wolf situation where Noelle didn’t believe him because of all the other times Kris deliberately tried to scare her.
yknow i was so caught up in all the dess, noelle, and tenna lore i never even the gumball machine a second thought. not sure if im on board with ur conclusion quite yet but this is a great catch
A new photoshop fight would be pretty cool not gonna lie so even if the gumball machine has nothing to do with one I'd like to have one somewhere in the game. I haven't heard many theories on the machine since it's such a random object that was in the midst of all the other cool things from the sweepstakes but this is definitely the best and most interesting theory I've heard about it. I've already seen a theory where Ice-E is the reason for Dess's disappearance, so I think this photoshop fight Ice-E theory has some merit.

This also ties in to the theory that ,,Ralsey" is many old items Kris included from Asriel and he is an amanlgimation of sorts(toy horns Kris had, Asriels scarf,the drawing).
The same way the gumball is an amalgamation of different images, some Darkners are MORE than just singular items.

The "You Got Lancered" thing references YTMND (You're The Man Now, Dog!", an old meme site format consisting of tiled images/GIFs, music, & echoed text (Along with the Weather characters' page too). The page's title even says "You're The Annoying Now, Dog!"

I don't think it's going to be a photoshop fight. I think this is for chapter 3, and it seems too early for that, but I do think this is going to be a character. And specifically, I think it's a character that's a reference to Tom Servo, a character from Mystery Science Theater 3000. After all, a big part of the chapter is going to be movies, and at least part of it takes place somewhere that looks like a theater. And it seems very Toby to have the Fun Gang dealing with a movie *within* a movie! Tom Servo also has a very particular look, which doesn't really make sense for an actual gumball machine (because he's a robot), so a heavily edited image would be necessary.

He didn’t, but I think he probably would, in some way. I feel like, in terms of visuals, gameplay, and mechanics, Deltarune has 1-upped Undertale, so to me, it only makes sense to have a deeper, better designed Omega fight.

I'd imagine it could be used for Mike in some capacity.. I had this idea that maybe in chapter 3, we experience some kind of tv hijacking, which distorts the dark world temporarily, and corrupts its denizens, so maybe Mike turns into something like this, in that theoretical scenario?

I think the gumball machine could be something brought from the real world to the dark world, more specifically something that would become a weapon/armor rather than a character. Something or Someone could use the machine as an armor or as a mech suit
I like the idea that it is related to the pizzeria because following the theme of discarted and/or abbandoned objects becoming the secret bosses, it could be that the machine was something in the pizzeria that the workers didn't want to attend anymore or something. I still preffer to think something external of the machine would be using it as a suit, but regardless, I do like the possibility of another photoshop boss fight
Something I think is going to become horrendously important over the chapters is that each dark world shown so far(depending on how you count the grand fountain/castle town) corresponds to one of the human souls from Undertale
In case you're wondering what I mean by that, the card kingdom is represented by the blue heart, integrity, it's items are the ballet shoes and tutu, and it's flowey attack involved dodging ballet shoes and stars)(in the card kingdom, the candy trees have star shaped fruits, and you have to make it past enemies that twirl like ballerinas, and you can pirouette in the Jevil fight)(in a cybers world, we get the purple heart, perseverance, having an electric theme, with words both positive and negative showing up during the flowey attack)(queen uses an almost identical attack in her boss battle)(meaning that we can likely predict what each upcoming world will be like, with minor information)(if I had to guess, the TV world is actually the one represented by the gun and cowboy hat, the yellow soul, Justice)
I have more info to provide to support this. On one of toby fox's birthdays one of his friends sent him a little game they made for him: an ice e game. Nearly nothing is known about it outside of a few gifs and pictures, gifs which greatly resemble flowey's face when flowey talks to you before the omega flowey fight.
It stretches and glitches and has that same infinite laugh as when you die to omega flowey.
Unfortunately some of these might be fake because I could only find them in half bread chaos' nightmare video.
I think the gumball machine might have been reassembled to more accurately resemble some unknown character we'll meet in the future.
ice in undertale, both the enemy and a plain block, doesn’t melt in snowden, snow doesn’t melt in hotland, and ice in hotland seems to sublimate. however, ice-e melts in the crossword, so what’s going on there? we have to look at the only other case of melting, the amalgamates. all of them except for memoryhead are combinations of other monsters, and ice is shown to be a monster in undertale. also, the gumball machine seems to be an *amalgamate* of stock images. therefore, ice-e is an amalgamate. but with who? the most similar monsters to ice-e’s face are
-the goats,
-lesser and greater dog,
-mad mew mew(who is a doll, so is not really an option),
-temmie,
-monster kid, and
-dress lion
my personal guess is monster kid’s father, but i’m not very confident in this part of the theory. one last weak piece of evidence, the garbled nonsense in amalgamate speech could be heard as giasfelfebrehber to a random monster

While unlikely, it could be just abandoned sprite from UT/DT's early development cycle?
