Raking is a skill, contrary to popular belief. And thats beside the point that this a Master 140, is full of spools and with that little keyway, is *not* an easy pick. Which is why everyone resorts to abusing them instead of picking them.
Small keyways makes it a lot more difficult, and this beginner's kit is terrible. He's probably not worse than the average beginner, but his tools sure are bad.

LOL! Been there. The "practice lock" is very easy but then a real one feels impossible. It's even worse when you pick a real lock after re-trying with the practice one and get it, but then later, you just can't seem to get the real one without doing the practice one first, as if you keep losing the skill and "need" the practice one to get un-rusty. That lock is very much pickable, it's the first one I ever tried to pick open with nothing but a wiper blade and a bent keyring and after a couple hours I could do it in about 5 seconds
Just a tip, put about the same pressure on the torsion bar as you would to press a key on a piano Its not exact, and you may need to lighten or strengthen how hard you twist the core. Different picks also work too. Though, if I am not mistaken, that lock can be opened with a 4 pin comb pick
I learned how to pick locks with the same practice lock you have, the Covert Instruments FNG. I continued my journey and can pick almost any padlock now. I've been at it for a couple months now. It is insanely easy once you start figuring it out.

A friend picked a lock for me by just using two wrenches. Lock was reusable afterwards as well (had lost the key that’s why)
The trick is to open a lock and close it in such way that the owner of the lock reads "Kilroy was here" inside the protected object.
Use a rake, then use the hooks to get the remaining ones. It’s really fun :)
