It's amusing how you casually do this while Shmee150 is hardly able to buy groceries in his Taycan Turbo S without running into the worst charging trouble.
Hahahaha!! Yeah, you guys should spam Shmee150 with the videos from this road trip 🤩
I still love the fact that Shmee150 has placed his ICE collection in a (sh)museum and he drives an EV :D
Seriously speaking, he does seem to admit, that EVs are the future.
EVs are the NOW of you want to go to Italy though 🤩
The lake at 4:00 is called Lake Zug, the mountain in front is called Mythen, this is beautiful Central Switzerland 🇨🇭
Traffic jam at Gotthard is not because of road construction, it’s the regular traffic during the holiday season, because it’s only a one lane per direction tunnel…
My home region, very beautiful, I never get tired of it!
Nice to follow you all the way. Dont apologise for the wind or the road noise, that not anyting you can change. Great work.
Great series of videos Kris. Thanks in deed for that. Keep up the good work…
Hi Kris, you chose the hotel in the old part of Genova... nice but the most car unfriendly area (that's why you see so many scooters around). If you have the opportunity find a bakery and try the focaccia before you leave, it's a must!
Amazing road trip vlog !! LOVE IT !! Keep it up man !!
😂
The pronunciation of the word "the" depends on the first sound of the word that comes after it. When the word after "the" begins with a consonant sound, people usually use /ðə/. When the word after "the" begins with a vowel sound, people usually use /ði/.
Appreciate the shoutout for Belgian viewers, i hope you have more of them than just me :D
Loving this road trip! I'm getting a Polestar 2 early next year and cross Europe trips like this are one of my main worries about electric driving. I feel a lot less worried now :)
At least 2 ✌. Zal wel een West Vlaming geweest zijn 😂😂. Harde werkers maar sympathiek 😅.
@@bluebikerathar 3 😁 :p groetjes
Enjoying your road trip video's a lot Kris, and less issues with mid/south-European charging than I expected - excellent! Hoping your drive back Saturday/Sunday will go well as it is what we call a 'black weekend' due to an expected peak in departing and returning holiday traffic (but hopefully for you more on the French side). Be safe, all the best and thanks for sharing this great road trip!
Thanks dude 😊😊 hopefully the traffic won’t be to bad 🤞🤞
I really enjoy to follow your trip. The estimated delivery of my Polestar 2 is in September and I’m really happy to see that you enjoy to drive with it! 👍🏼💪🏽
Awesome, thanks and congrats 😊
Hey Kris,
Thanks for taking us with you on the journey. And a small but important thing: great music from Steven Beddall :-) Enjoy your trip back to Norway.
Thanks for watching 😊😊
Awesome trip! I did drive from southern Sweden to Verona through Switzerland in 2019 before the corona mess up. However I did it in a petrol car and I'm surprised how smooth it seems to be with an EV. Very happy it works so well cause being able to to such trips is a must.
Great trip Kris, planning similar (from outside Malmö to Tuscany) soon in our ID4. Reassuring to know that there are not queues at every charging station even now in the high holiday season.
I can tell you...until Milano Area it will be smooth sailing...but after that you will have issues finding fast working chargers...speaking from 3 times Experience...
@@tommesob5099 yeah in Italy fast charger aren't so diffused as in Northern Europe.
Also many of them are not in rest areas of the motorways, so you also need to exit and re-enter the motorway to charge
If you drive back on the same route, go over the Gotthard Pass instead of through the tunnel. way nicer and depending on the traffic queues, not much slower.
Near the Gotthard tunnel in high season drive on the B road and go over the Gotthard Pass. More beautiful and you will mostly not loose any time.
Nice to watch this youtube channel everything is nicely explained and you see beautiful locations like this road trip especially beautiful cars like the polestar 2 :-) best regards from Belgium 🇧🇪
Thanks for that mate 😊 Nice to hear you find the content useful 😊
You should do more of these trans-Europe drives! Really entertaining. What about driving to the south of Spain f.ex?
Cool trip... Might do that with my polestar2 also
21:05 This is why people buy an ID.3 Tour with 10.2 m turning circle. 😉
Insanely narrow alleyways and turns in Italy.
Great trip Kris! I went down from Sweden to Switzerland in my etron 2 weeks ago and got that same error message about waiting for power at the Ionity station north of Bern. Must be a Swiss/ABB thing. Never seen it before anywhere...
I have a friend who works for a charging provider and ABB chargers failing seems to be quite common 😢
Interesting journey. Doing part of it in the future in an Ioniq5. Surprised about the few charging stops. Please tell us about how the border crossing are working!
14:34 I think a Mach-E just finished charging too.. 👍🇮🇹 Highly enjoyable video! Looking forward to the next one. BTW: What did you have for dinner in Genova? And did you go for a swim in the Mediterranean? 😎
It seems like the Google maps app on the Polestar doesn’t take altitude changes into account, it feels quite strange that it miscalculated the range from Gotthard to Binasco by that big amount.
I’ll will have to wait till tomorrow to see what happened in the morning with only 18% of charge before leaving. 🤞
Consumption there was much more acceptable… and, yeah, Switzerland is much more interesting to drive through than (most of) Germany!
Kris, if you ever drive in germany again a little tip: Try to stay around 120-130 Km/h. You will find, that you are as quick as if you go full speed for 10 min, and then have to break again. ;)
Yea, this is what I found out today 😊 Video goes out on Wednesday 😊
Love the road trip video as you get to see so much more of other countries. Please do more of them. One of the concerns with the Polestar is its lack of cup holders. You seem to have solved the problem with an additional on that hooks to the glovebox I believe. Was this a Polestar accessory or an aftermarket purchase.
I've seen these offered on Etsy, they are 3D printed.
Really nice roadtrip videos 👍 Are the Mustang able to be so fast?
Great vid Chris!! Been wondering, what kind of cupholder do you have installed there and how?
Wonder the same
Hehehe 😇 Belgians are always polite 😇 thanks for the shout out !
We zijn er toch al 3 Belgen die zijn kanaal volgen 👍
@@bluebikerathar👍🏻
Hi great video, just wondering something about how the maths works out with overall journey time - overall is it quicker to drive fast and charge often, or is it quicker to drive at lower speed with lower consumption and charge less?
The bigger impact is when to charge and for how long. Every EV has a "charging curve", where they will charge faster until a certain point and then start to slow down. For longer road trips it can be beneficial to try to stay within that faster charging speed area of your battery, by stopping more often and only charging to 50 or 60%.
Why didn't you show us the text on the charger you gave up on in Germany? I love that you take up the challenge of a long trip through Europe. Very good PR for the EV.
Did you buy the Toll Sticker for Switzerland? :D. Because if not please do it on your way back...that can get very expensive very quickly :D
Sticker is 40, fine is 250.
I was not aware of the sticker 🙈😬 Thanks for the info and I will get it next time!
@@KrisRifa Also take it easy in Switzerland, speed tickets can get insanely expensive there. You can buy the stickers on gas stations near the border.
I test drove this dual motor in United Kingdom.. Very impressed only thing i didn't like was Road noise it wasn't just that the road noise wasn't well insulated on certain type of road at high speed above 80 km/h the deal breaker was the type of road noise it was really irritating. I would like to try the test with smaller wheels to see how it improves. Otherwise it is awesome car. Google assistance is real bonus
Din norska galning..........Jag älskar din idea
12:50, they have updated the GOM its now actually based on live driving consumption.
No it is not! The whole trip the car indicates 400km of range at 100%. I have even got close to that on this trip 🙈
@@KrisRifa I just finished charging my Polestar 2 to 90%. It indicates a range of 440 km (corresponding to 490 km at 100%). This must be due to my average consumption of somewhat below 18 kWh/100 km. The range seems to be adapting to the individual consumption, at least in my car with the current software. Maybe it just does not go lower than 400?
@@KrisRifa when you drive keep an eye on the GOM, you will be surprised. It adjust based om consumption. When i charge to 90% it sometimes says 360 sometimes 400. Based on my driving before.
@@MyRealNameIs that may be the case with your car, but this car shows 400km of range at 100% all the time..
@@KrisRifaoké i have software 2124. Not sure when the GOM became dynamic. But when i travel the estimated range goes up and down during driving.
Belinósa = Bellinzona for IT and CH viewers 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, I mispronounced it through out the video 😂🙈 Sorry 😬
@Kris Rifa I can't find the swiss toll vignette on your windshield. I hope I just didn't get it's there and you paid the toll, otherwise it can cost you a 200 CHF penalty.
👍👍!
Would you recommend brining a e-tron GT to Italy? Or is it to big?
I really hate that we have so many Ionity chargers with ABB interface in Switzerland.
ABB chargers are the most reliable. Interface sucks I agree
You mentioned Genoa is not a very touristy city. It's kind of true. What made you choose this destination?
I love this series. But honestly, I can't believe you didn't take a few days off at the Riviera. Going back right away seems such a waste!
Could you do a onboard rout planner comparison between different car brands?
Polestars looks better the i thought, so them and Tesla seem ahead of the market.
Hi Kris.
Which card are you using for the chargers?
Waiting for power is a well known issue on ABB chargers. Very anoying.
Congratulations. ABB is based in Switzerland, that may have an influence.
I wonder why ABB continue to think having so little information/stats on their big screen is sufficient. 🤷
@@abraxastulammo9940 Because none of their customers have asked for more.
IONITY once said it wanted to have a common interface (as far as possible) through all their different charging units. Maybe then ABB changes its mind 🤷♂️
@@e-redj 18:16 ABB now has to use the same screen as a second provider (besides Tritium) for the Ionity design HPC. But many of the other ABB HPC remain with only time and kWh on display - so annoying for cars that don't display the charging speed in kW.
Could you make pov videos in Norway one day?
Would you have preferred to do this in a Q4/audi-gt or enyaq or tesla 3?
I will make a follow up video with all your questions after the trip and also one on pricing and other stuff! 😊
@@KrisRifa many thanks!!! Great idea. Also I guess EQA would be the other main comparison model.
@@KrisRifa sounds good! Would really appreciate some advice on Ionity for those of us without an etron card or "wecharge" subscription. It's just too expensive to do a trip like yours in an EV.
Kris, what software do you use for editing these videos?
All the software and hardware I use is all the description of the video 😊
Where are you charging tonite?
Hey Kris, what language do you usually use with non-Nordic folks? Like how did you communicate with the Belgian Taycan to ask if he was done charging?
In Germany I use my limited German, else where I try English. Communication have not been an issue at all 👌
Belgian is a world language. Ppl every where in world assume we speak every language 😂.
BTW, Belgian is not a language . it's Flemish ( aka Dutch but different but technically the same).
But most ppl in the world believe French is the official language. No its not but most Brusseliennes ( habitants fromthe capital Bruxelles = Brussel) prefere or are frencespeaking. So the south part of Belgium.
But actually Belgian has also Deutsch as dreites sprache. Jawohl. Vlaams ( Nederlands), Francais und Deutsch sind the 3 official languages. And we have 10 governments. So 4 for only environmental ( 3 language and federal one 🙈🙈🙈). So for every department . unexplainable 😥😞😒😱
It’s nice that you’re doing this. But I’m wondering is this planning isn’t frustrating? I’d love to have EV but I’m afraid all of planning and sacrifices will kill my EV enthusiasm.
Not at all! It was actually fun and interesting planning this trip! 😊 it’s an extra dimension you don’t get with an ice car
Team Belgium 🇧🇪
Please get a mount for your camera. Drive with two hands and concentrate! The car has indicators for a reason.
Belgians for the win 🇧🇪 . gold again 😅
The occasional charging issue is annoying and unfortunate.
There are no places in the whole World as Italia... How lucky we are been Italian!
So frustrating to have to play the charger lottery….every….single…..charging session. Will it start, will I be able to get charged, will I have to Jack rabbit from charger to charger to find one that starts. The electric car charging ecosystem still has a long way to go.
Is that a Vanilla Coke? 🙊🙈
Yes!!
Man the Polestar is thirsty… 19,9 when average speed is 85 km/h… That’s high! Great roadtrip and nice videos!
Well, he probably had a lot of sections doing 130 km/h (80 mph) too. Queues, to the point where you’re standing still, and city driving, will bring down the average speed a lot.. However, it’s not necessarily good for consumption in such hot weather.
To me, car looks awesome for long road trips. I think the human is the limitation here.. 😄🍔🚽🧻🥤🛏
My average consumption with the Polestar 2 since March is 17.9. That includes city, cross country, highway and mountains, even rain and sometimes a roof rack with bikes.
An interesting and very nice vlog. I also love the beautiful Polestar 2. But traveling long distance still looks nerve-wracking to me. If I would do the same trip with my Volvo V40D2 Aut. Inscription, I would be stopping every two hours just for a coffee. I would have to find diesel every 1200km (consumption av. 5,4l/100km and a tank of 62l). And every full tank would cost me app. 75,- to max. 100,- euro for another 1200km... And my car only costed half the price of this Polestar...
So for me no stress (as long as gas stations will exist). And ecological? Sorry, but as long as electricity is made with fossil fuel and batteries are built with rare materials that will become even more expensive if we need more batteries, I think we have to hope for large technical evolutions. Probably we have to completely rethink our ways of traveling.
Bit much smaller car and 115hp. Don’t get me wrong, I have both the P2 and the 5cyl D3 Automatic. But the P2 is another class. Just much smoother and much more relaxed to drive. Currently in the stages of selling the V40, since noone in the family wants to drive it anymore since we got the p2.
And ever thought whats in your engine and especially exhaust cleaning part? I Germany they started stealing the catalyst parts since the prices for platinum exploded. 🤔
@@knartzinmuenchen Of course, you are right. And I would love to drive the P2 with all its innovative options and with the advantages of an electric engine. My only point was that traveling long distance needs a lot more planning. But I hope that in the future new innovations will also make traveling easier. For daily use I would love the P2, for sure.
Vanilla Coke?! Ewww ;)
