  • Hey Guys, in this video I’ll be making some concrete stepping stones through our yard. I will be making the concrete look like large slate stones. This is a rather simple process with very few tools needed.
    Tools/Materials:
    Shovel
    Wheelbarrow
    Concrete Mixer (Options)
    Concrete Trowel
    15 - 60lb bags of concrete
    1 - 80lb bag of mortar

      Thanks so much! It takes some extra time and can get frustrating at times but it’s so rewarding teaching them and I love when they ask to work with me!

    Great DIY projects and love how you're involving the little helpers! Starting them as young as possible is teaching them your passion for DIY that they can utilize in their adult lives. It is easy to see that you are a loving Dad!

    That is a great idea and really good work. Love it!
    Just a note on the strength of concrete. You need to water it for at least a week. Concrete absorbs water for over a month, which increases its strength. Without water it will become brittle.

      Thanks for the tip! Luckily it rained off and on for a week so I didn’t really have to go out and wet it down 😁

    DUDE! Thank you! I've been going back and forth between morter and cement it never crossed my mind to just top it off with the morter. PERFECT solution for that sculpting!

      Not gonna lie tho, I think you covered up some of your detailing with that last dusting of mortar man. But seriously everything else is perfect, I'm super excited to do mine now!

    This is really brilliant. You could probably use a spray can first to outline the shape/size of the 'stones' to make it easier and to get the exact/design layout you want.

      Been looking at videos to make concrete pavers. In my opinion, this has the best looking, most natural, and easy to make process. Pure genius! Great ideas and video and helpers. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Doin’ it!

    One cheeky question....do you think it will hold if I do this...for a car drivey? 😁 Perhaps going for a extra strength mix will do...I just love the looks and don't wanna buy massive stones!

    • @SimonSaysDIY
      @SimonSaysDIY  Před 12 dny +1

      It should, I would recommend doing it at least 4in thick and then place some wire mesh or rebar to reinforce each stone.

  • @zorankokanovic4665
    @zorankokanovic4665 Před rokem +2

    this is perfect...tell me that it is not necessary to put wire mesh in the concrete so that it does not crack over time

      Yeah they just love helping! Oh sorry, I’ve had too many comments to reply to all of them lately. But it has actually held up really well. No issues so far. And on the plus side, our kids have fun hopping from stone to stone every time we leave the house 🤣

    The stone nearest the walkway seems too large compared to the rest.

    • @SimonSaysDIY
      @SimonSaysDIY  Před rokem +6

      It looks alright in person but the angle here makes it took a lot larger. Being different sizes helps it look more like a stone walkway and less like cement pavers.
