    Great video Wouter! I admire the way you can talk and not run out of stuff to talk about :D
    If you don't mind a correction, I noticed that you pronounce the Ukrainian говориш with a very hard h, almost as if it was "ховориш."
    The "г" in Ukrainian actually sounds exactly the same as "h" in Dutch.

  • @AlphaToEpsilon
    @AlphaToEpsilon Před rokem +653

    Only thing is - I noticed he does a lot of the talking and people don’t really say much back. I’d be interested to know how he’d handle someone saying something quite elaborate back to him. Understanding native speakers when they talk can be extremely difficult, even if you’ve studied a language for years.

    • @alanguages
      @alanguages Před rokem +83

      Wouter keeps the conversation on the particular topic and level he has, which is basic for the specified interaction he wants. He will have a hard time if it is a deep conversation on a language he doesn't have a deep enough knowledge of. Learning the vocabulary of multiple topics is difficult to do in one language, imagine trying that in multiple languages on top.

    • @FrozenMermaid666
      @FrozenMermaid666 Před rokem +1

      I recently started learning new words in German, and I knew about one thousand words in German since childhood from lyrics / German TV etc - wir brauchen mehr means we need more? I know brauchen means to need in German, so it’s used differently than the Dutch word gebruiken that means to use! My level in Dutch is close to a quite advanced level now, and a lot of words are similar in German!

    • @Wavinto
      @Wavinto Před rokem +3

      @FrozenMermaid666 Dutch and German are very similar to read but different in pronounciation. I can read a lot in dutch, but not understand a single spoken word (german native, never learned dutch)

    • @FrozenMermaid666
      @FrozenMermaid666 Před rokem

      I find it easier to understand people that teach Dutch in videos than understanding people that speak fast, but I can understand a lot of the words in a simple conversation, and in grammar videos I can understand over 90 percent of the words, plus learning new words every day! I can’t wait to get to a native speaker level in Dutch! I think it takes knowing well over 10k words and all sorts of phrases and idioms to be able to understand almost everything that people say when speaking a bit faster, and I guess I would have to be very used to hearing those types of sentences, so that it takes less for me to process the words / sentences etc, plus I would have to know all the ways the words are / can be shortened sometimes by natives when speaking fast and be very used to hearing them! But when I see it written, I can understand almost everything, but there are about 10 new words or more in almost every knew video I watch in Dutch, and in some videos even more than ten, so I am also constantly learning new words! I actually got really used to reading Dutch sentences, and to sentence structures even, and I noticed it takes less for me to process them, so I now understand most of them instantly! And I only started learning Dutch a few months ago, so it’s very easy to learn for an English speaker, and I am sure it is also easy to learn for a German speaker because the sentence structure is similar and many words are or sound similar and some words have the same spelling or only a letter or two are different!

    He probably memorizes a few senteces in each language, cause I really don't believe it's possible for anyone to speak that many languages.

  • @TheMediaMachine
    @TheMediaMachine Před rokem +2

    Nah. He just memerised certain words, phrases, sentences for specific topics. Notice, he isn't really listening and really having a conversation. He just keeps going like he's trying to say what he memorizes. Now that doesn't mean he didn't put work into it but when it comes to really conversing for professional job he'd have a problem and realises, what he memorised isn't going to take him far. If he sat down socialising and conversation goes elsewhere, he's done. He speaks from memorising words, phrases, sentences but he's not having a conversation.
