It was interesting.
I am right now caught to episode 8 and just started watching it.
It appears the stormtrooper armor was First Order Issue, meaning this takes place after Episode IX.
It was Bad, aswell as anime itsself

In case people didn't know, there is a novel coming out in October titled Star Wars Visions: Ronin that follows the character from The Duel.

Wait really? Is there like an article I can read? Holy shit, that first episode is my favorite and I love that character and any more content with him sounds so cool

Apparently in this alternate universe, the Jedi were the most loyal servants on the Empire. Jedi belonged to different clans and fought countless times for power but then a sect of Jedi rebelled and called themselves the Sith.
The Sith rebellion failed (I think that's what they mean by "the war") and the Jedi clans united to form the Empire. It's actually pretty fucking cool and that it's coming in October. Ronin immediately steals the show with this short.

I think the premise of this character is essentially a “Sith Hunter” given that there are “Jedi Hunters” in the Star Wars universe.
I like how it’s ambiguous. He could be killing Sith because what they seek to accomplish is evil. Or he could be seeking more power by killing dark side users and tipping the power scale in his favor.

My god that first episode paying homage to the Seven Samurai with the cinematography looked incredible. It felt like you were sucked into a time window back to feudal Japan era.
I saw it more to Yojimbo and Sanjuro with lone wolf comes into the town saves the day and just walks off
It more resembles to Yojimbo and Sanjuro in my opinion
But nevertheless this episode was a clear Homage to Akira Kurosawa

This warrior is what we call a Gray Jedi. Not truly a Jedi, but trained in the ways of the force. This Grey Jedi obviously has been killing Sith Lords and collecting their kyber crystals.
I don't think Gray Jedi are a thing in the new canon.

Edit: It might not be Bindu, but it's the big Minotaur looking thing from Rebels.
I think it’s playing more towards samurai heritage. Thus why he calls himself wander or another name Is Ronin a samurai without a master (Jedi/Sith both have masters)

This did NOT disappoint! I thought this was absolutely breathtaking on all fronts, particularly the animation and cinematography (along with that beautiful soundtrack!!). I now want every Star Wars saber to be like a samurai sword, because damn did those fight scenes look epic! This series is such a good move for Star Wars and I really hope the creative team behind this are recognised for what an amazing piece of art they have created that could have gone very wrong. I am very impressed by this series ❤️😱
i thought it was breathtaking how people were being killed and murdered and he just casually saunters on over with no sense of haste.
From the art style to the tone, it's exactly what I expected and wanted. I'm glad they were able to do their own thing and not get tied down by any disney limits.
This is the fresh new Star Wars that we need. Separate from the Skywalker Saga, introducing new characters but with that familiar tone that we all know and love. Great first episode!
In the Japanese dub the villagers actually call the guy a samurai or Ronnin, idk I feel like the Japanese vers has more engaging dialogue
I've been watching a bunch of people's reactions to this episode because I'm so infatuated with it and "You could just turn down the tea..." Is the funniest take on this episode I've seen so far.
This whole episode felt like a beautiful blending of Seven Samurai and Yojimbo.
Also normally I’m an English Dub supporter for anime but in the case I much prefer the sub, especially with the art style which looks like an ancient Japanese sketch.
The guy who animated and made this was also the same guy who made the Afro samurai series and manga

Yeah, for this episode specifically so entirely japanese in its setting, it felt weird to watch it in English. I very much preferred the original Japanese dub.

I need to see that multiblade lightsaber attachment show up again somewhere! And the duel on the water was definitely an homage to Obi-Wan vs. Anakin. They may not be canon but the SW timeline is vast and the ones that don't have specific references to a time period could easily take place in the distant past or future
I need action figures or PoP figurines of both the Ronin and the Sith lady immediately
this episode character gives me zuko vibes from when he saved the village from the fire nation even though he was secretly an exiled prince of the fire nation

You have no idea how much joy it brought me that Greg caught that a Dug (Sebulba's species) was piloting that droid, even if it was about 10 seconds after Blind Wave caught it. But let's be honest here, no one can compete with Blind Wave's Star Wars knowledge! Great reaction guys, can't wait to watch y'all react to The Elder, that's my favorite so far.

@@ReelRejects definitely, Star Wars is my favorite franchise but I don't know jack-squat about anything non-canon like Legends so he's got me there.
This gave me some major Ghost of Tsushima vibes when I watched this episode and it's by far one of my favorite episodes in Visions
I feel like you guys should react to Akira Kurosawa's filmography, and see how he influenced cinema. Idk, I feel like it would be a cool exploration for you guys to do.
There are many episodes of this show that deserve their own spin of series this one being a good contender for a spin of series
I think the stormtroopers were explained to actually be bandits or something who were wearing old stormtrooper armor. I thought that was interesting especially because some of them were wearing pieces of old First Order stormtrooper armor, which tells me that this story was apparently set some time after The Rise of Skywalker. I guess the chosen one coming along isn’t truly the end of the Dark Side or the Light.
I love the seriousness of the with era I think Disney should take that serious dark approach when doing prequel stories

It didnt occur to me when I watched the episode that the tea kettle going off was the signal that the droid was ready to deploy, thats why it was goin off like that.
Even though I never watched any star wars stuff before I enjoyed this a lot
In a way it did reference seven samurai, the village did hire seven warriors to defend them from bandits

Um, the father wasn't "just sleeping". That was a body laid out for display and the face was seemingly shot away with a blaster. So the kid's father was probably murdered the last time the bandits showed up to 'tax' the village.
the main reason why unknown sith samurai giving to this kid its because he reminded of him, the kid is strong protected his village and he earned it
i mean the siths were greedy and never share to anyone
but this is first time seeing a sith has heart
Kind of forgot to comment here, but it's going to be about the crystal again. The Sith's was a standard one, it seemed to me, but the Ronin, with the sound, like a howling noise... A Krayt Dragon Pearl is known to make such a howling sound when put in a lightsaber. These crystals also make for very destructive blades, which could, through speculation, explain why the Ronin is unable to simply switch off his lightsaber, and chooses to sheath it. Maybe some accidental damage to the systems?
FYI a Krayt Dragon is a creature found on Tattooine and other neighboring planet(I forgot the name of the system). They eat rocks mostly. They also have to slow digestive storage system, instead of an eat-and-digest system like most normal animals. When they accidentally ingest a stone with a kyber crystal inside, it stays undigested, absorbing other random rock particles and nutrients, and over time looking like a pearl. These pearls vary in size, from a tiny marble to the size of a human head, and they're sold for high prices. But, they can also be used in lightsabers, and they emit a howling sound when used as such.
Visions reminded me of animatrix, basically various interpretations of an idea, just like animatrix
Y’all should do a reaction video to Yojimbo. It’s a hilarious yet badass movie and it directly inspired the spaghetti western genre.
That poor Sith...she really had NO IDEA who this "Ronin" actually was.

yojimbo was remade into eastwood's fistful of dollars(1st of 'man with no name' trilogy) and later bruce willis's last man standing. As far as i can tell he only thing in star wars taken directly from yojimbo is the scene in cantina when obi wan chopped off a hand. lucas took out much more from kurosawa's filmography though.
also..if u want to see lucas's inspiration for jabba the hut, just watch kurosawa's red beard. when the scene shows up, u will only see jabba in your head.
I've been watching it in Japanese since the series reminds me of anime and that's how I watch anime..... That's just me personally tho! Love the reactions as always!!! =3
Litterally the only one that didn't hit for me was episode 2. but man 1,4,5 and 7 were god tier in terms of starwars and anime story telling in general

I'm guessing the main character in this episode is a force sensitive bounty hunter that doesn't serve the jedi or the sith.
Or he's just a sith hunter.
This was my thoughts on it. He was called a ronin, which is a samurai without a master. To me it seems like he was a sith apprentice whose master was killed. Since he has been hunting down other siths, my best guess is that his master was killed by another sith. He now wanders as a ronin hunting down other siths. Maybe he is looking for revenge, or maybe just wandering searching for a new path. That's at least my interpretation on the episode.
My interpretation: a former Sith who became disillusioned with the ways of the order until he came across the long-lost teachings of Revan, Darth gravid and Darth vectivus as well as the teachings of the blackguard and the je'daii order thus decided to became a gray sided wielder of the force seeking Redemption and atoning for his service to the dark side of the force by helping and defending those in need!
Reminds me alot of zuko’s redemption

Star Wars was loosely based on Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress". "Last Man Standing" with Bruce Willis was based on Kurosawa's "Yojimbo". Definite must-watch films from Akira Kurosawa.
That sith was pretty cool, but when she flew down onto the ground I couldn't help but think of her as evil Marry Poppins

I fucking wished the whole season/show looked like this (maybe with color and less cgi) or like the episode called "The Elder". Both have some great animation styles and the other episodes felt really out of place. Characters looking cartoony etc.
