I know a Sterile Processing Tech in San Diego. After 15 years, heâs currently making $35/hr as a Lead in his department.
I know a CST, she was offered 35 a hour after only one year of experience
I am really thinking about doing this. I use clean the Operating Rooms when i worked at the hospital here in Baltimore. And i use to clean the techs locker rooms , break rooms, and empty they trash and i use to see them cleaning the instruments and you really dont have to talk to anybody because they were so focused.

Great content!! Being a traveling sterile processing technician is where the money is at
Thats what i want to do. Do you need the 400 hours of clinical and experience to be a traveling sterile processing tech?
@@transport28 no once your certified you can travel any place you want
@Mystery ? Dont let that hold you back we have people who are born in this country for years and still cant speak English .i dont recommend school if you study you can skip all of that.

@Mystery ? No that shouldn't stop you from getting any job in sterile processing
Thank you for this video! I graduated as a Dental assistant on Nov 2020 and after working as a DA, I realized I like sterilizing the instruments more! Iâm saving up for the sterile processing tech class they offer an hour away from me. Iâm excited to try it:)

Thank you for all the information about being a sterile tech I recently got offered a job while fishing LOL so this was answering all the questions that I had
I plan to enroll in my local community college, I like the aspect of not having to talk to people much. I've been in Health Insurance call centers since 2006 I'm ready for a change with little to no talking.. :)
I just graduated from Purdue University. I already had a job working at a hospital and by the grace of God ; I was blessed to get a job in Sterile Processing Department before i graduated. I plan to go back to college in Two years to become a Surgical Technologist.

lol same here, years and tears (typo but it fits lmao) of call center experience and I'm so tired of customers. It's a great job and relatively easy to do. The only downside is it get's super boring after 3 years or so. Depends on the place you work at.

How many years experience taking the poo to the loo?
I have been a Sterile processing Technician since 2000 and loved the job. Its a very heavy job if you work in a hospital where Orthopedic surgeries are done. if its a smaller hospital. Unfortunately I had to get a different position in my hospital due to the type of work! It a great job but can be very stressful for sure.
Can you elaborate on why it's very heavy / stressful? :)
@@zacharyshort384 The Orthopedic hip trays and trials are very heavy to lift, especially if your a small person. Loading and unloading on sterilization carts to be placed in the autoclave for steam sterilization depending on how many knees and hips that are scheduled to be done and not limited to add on's that come in after hours. Also the O.R Staff and how demanding they can be at times. ( High stress) if your hospital is an older one like mine, we do not have all the automated equipment like the newer hospitals or even the facilities that only do Sterilization of hospital equipment ( Like Steripro) in Toronto, That's all they do is Sterilize equipment and send them back to hospitals.
You have a very nice voice
What is the certified online school for sterile processing tech?
I have thought about this career for a few years now! Just fearful of change and would I like it after the fact
I just started working in this. I love it! And it was a good change for me. I quit my customer service job and don't regret it
@@lwhitwhaaat7371 whatâs the starting salary for ur state?Iâm getting my certification tomorrow. Thx for response
@@lwhitwhaaat7371 how did you go about schooling/training ?
@@Nullpointer404 I'm from the east coast so I think it pays a little less than up North/West but so far it's still worth it because it's more than what I was making. I'm starting off at $16 an hour and I get benefits. Once I'm certified (in july) I'll be making $17 an hour. It depends where u work at though. It also depends where you work at and how much experience you have. In 5 years I can go to another nearby hospital that only wants experienced employees and could make about $30 an hour. Sorry for the long paragraph but theres so much to say about it đ
@@keenfuture my local community college actually has a class available for it. It's usually about a semester long or up to two semesters. I really liked the class because we also did clinicals which gave us a little more experience. When a hospital sees that you put effort to learn about it it really looks great on your resume. Some states are required to be certified in it but some aren't, so definitely try to find a class if u can, or see if a local hospital can help you train or do volunteer work!
What is the career progress

They do if you go traveling
They dont earn as much!!?? They dont even need to go to school and they earn as much as those who do went to school like lvns and surgical technicians! Starting pay for surgical technicians are $15-20 while starting pay for sterile processing techs are $25 or more, they can earn upto 90k a year!
