I was born in Sydney and have lived here my whole life. I love watching travel vlogs of people visiting Sydney for the first time and seeing their excitement and appreciation for all the things that make our city great. It helps me not to take it for granted and reminds me how blessed I am to live here!

Welcome to Sydney! I'm really loving your videos. You're both very likeable, the content is seriously authentic and the extra effort to research the correct pronnounciation of place names is seriously appreciated. Saying Bond-eye, not Bond-ee, earns you brownie points 🙂.
9:40: @Tia Ocean facing houses in Bronte and Tamarama will range from between $10M for an older, relatively undestated 3 bedroom house to upwards of $30M for some of the more palatial modern abodes.
14:31 @Cheveyo while the Vivid tourist cruises are expensive, for a real taste of Sydney you should use the reasonably priced public transport ferries. I can tell you from personal experience that catching a ferry to work in the city during summer is without a doubt the best way to commute. Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly during the day (as it's a muuuch better beach than Bondi) and then time your journey back to the city (or even better Barangaroo) so you catch the sunset over the harbour and city skyline. You'll even arrive back in time to see Vivid from the water. No need to pay $120.
I can't wait to see the rest of your journey! So glad I found your channel before you really blow up. Travel companies and tourism boards should be paying you to promote destinations.

And just because those mansions aren't kep that way (to keep getting more expensive) out of people (who can afford them) just settling in those homes and keeping them that way, the law literally prevents any increases in supply to reflect demand that is obviously very strong for those areas.
So instead of looking like Kings Cross or something, you just get some huge private mansions on very well-located valuable urban land.
And that causes sprawl because it offsets the housing that does get built further and further away.

For anyone, its a fairly cheap, quick tour of the harbour, passing the Naval Base (Garden Island) with all its history. (It got attacked in WW2) You can definitly do roon's suggestion, or, If you turn right at the pedestrian road from the ferry at Manly you can walk to Shelley beach for food/swim, and walk up to the headlands there for an Ocean view and a nice shady place to have some more food or a rest.

Welcome to our wonderful city. My great, etc grandfather landed just where you were standing, from a ship called the Coromandel, in the year 1802. He brought his family with him, and with twelve other families, settled in the Hawkesbury River valley and started farming there. The efforts of these farmers literally saved the colony, as the convicts, soldiers and sailors who had come out earlier had no idea of how to farm, especially to farm land so different to England...

Once you start to head north from Sydney you're in for a treat on the NSW North Coast. I'd highly recommend spending some time around Coffs Harbour and Bellingen, that are around half way to Brisbane.
Must do''s around Bellingen include hiking in the World Heritage listed rainforests around Dorrigo (Dangar Falls and the Wonga Walk including Crystal Shower Falls are standouts) checking out Bellingen (great food and atmosphere), the boardwalks at Urunga (the famous rivermouth one, and also the new wetlands walk if you're there near sunrise).
And at Coffs you have the walk through the marina to Muttonbird Island (great views and one of many whalespotting opportunities), the Forest Sky Pier lookout for unrivalled coastal views, two beautiful Sikh temples in Woolgoolga, or (local tip) if it looks like a good sunset, grabbing fish and chips from Sea Salt in Sawtell's fabulous main street), and eating them on Sawtell Headland as the sun goes down over the mountains. As well as the Big Banana, the OG '"Big Thing''. If you visit the Banana, check out the candymakers - they're more impressive than the Banana! Coffs is also a two-Aldi town!
Between Sydney and Coffs places definitely worth considering checking out are South West Rocks (convict jail, lighthouse, super pretty coastal scenery - the short Jack Perkins track from the lighthouse to a small nearby beach is fabulous on a sunny winter day) or talking the Lakes Way between Bulahdelah and Taree (fabulous scenery and lighthouse at Seal Rocks, sunsets over the lake at Elizabeth Beach, the giant sand dune right in town at One Mile Beach in Forster).
Between Coffs and Brisbane, as well as obligatory Byron Bay (walk to the lighthouse from The Pass), Yamba is fantastic but quite summer-oriented, and Brunswick Heads is more like the Byron that everyone fell in love with 40 years ago than Byron is today.
Happy travels - been following your trip since Perth, and curious to see what you make of our part of Australia now you're here (I lived most of my life in Sydney, and now we're up where you're heading to next).

So glad you came to my home town! I used to live in Coogee where you got on the bus. It’s great. Now on the Northern Beaches.
    A few observations:
    - Sydney has excellent south East Asian food, especially as you get out of the CBD. Example, Marrickville has very good banh mi. We’re a nation of (mostly) immigrants and we love food.
    - yes Bondi was quiet but it will be absolutely packed in summer. Bondi is the finish line for the largest fun run in the world, the City to Surf (usually around 80k ppl)
    - I would recommend people check out Manly and the Northern Beaches as much as Bondi. Same nice beaches but with a different, more laid back vibe and far less crowded. Cleaner too in my opinion. You can catch the ferry from Circular Quay and the walk to Shelley Beach is to die for. The Pittwater region and Palm Beach are postcard worthy too.
    - to answer your question, property in Sydney is crazy expensive considering we’re the second least densely populated country in the world behind Mongolia. Expect to pay probably $1.5m for your average 2 bed apartment in Bondi. PLENTY more for the oceanside properties you walked past.
    - while it’s hard to argue Opera House/Harbour Bridge/Botanic Gardens isn’t iconic and naturally where people would gravitate to first, Sydney Harbour has many more gems, including Middle Harbour, Bradley’s Head where Taronga Zoo is, Balmoral, the Spit to Manly Walk, Watson’s Bay, Rose Bay and heaps of other beautiful spots.
    - well done timing your visit with Vivid. I drive home over the Harbour Bridge every day and it never ceases to inspire me.
    - I’m going to encourage people NOT to spend much time in the CBD. Having seen quite a few world cities, it’s fairly standard and not our selling point, except for the harbour around it.
Hey great channel. I found you because I’m heading to Cairns later in the year for the first time and devouring any related content. Your video was great and I’ll definitely be doing a similar circuit in the Daintree. Subscribed!

I think some of us take Australia for granted and aren't that easily impressed so it's been a gift to watch you approach everything with enthusiasm and honesty (Cheveyo, I share your feelings about the big Merino). On another note, can I just apologise on behalf of Australians at the price of the Sydney Harbour Walk. That's absolute bs. great things to do in Sydney:
    Bondi to Coogee walk
harbor bridge to spit bridge walk (this can potentially be an all day affair depending on how much of it you do and whether you take the full scenic route
    ferry to manly beach
    Visit Taronga zoo
    Maritime museum
    Great food in Sydney:
Haymarket is full of incredible chinese food
The western suburbs - places like Auburn and Merrylands have amazing middle Eastern food - Sydney is the best place in Australia for middle Eastern food. El Jannah is amazing and also cheap
Cow and Moon in Enmore has the (official, they won the title) best gelato in the world; and the surrounding area has lots of great ethnic restaurants and bars

Wow, I usually feel like Sydney is way too peopley for me (being a QLDer now living in the Adelaide Hills) but seeing the extent of the Vivid lights on everything makes me want to put it on my 'too see' list! Oh and it's nice to see that Bondi in winter is actually lovely and quiet. Another wonderful video from the two of you.

Glad you guys enjoyed Syndey! There's heaps to do there, I holidayed there for a week a few years ago and loved it ❤
Also the lifeguards who work on those beaches are actual heroes. There used to be this great TV show called Bondi Rescue that showed what they did on a daily basis (particularly in the summer months when those beaches are packed) and how many lives they save - they are kind of legendary! So ritzy lifeguard stations are a must haha

    -You should check out:
Queen Victoria building (QVB in the heart of he city).
-The Three Sisters at Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. It's about a 90 min train trip west of Sydney but it's so stunning. The walk down to the bottom of the valley is so gorgeous.
-Manly and Manly beach. You get there by catching the ferries from Circular Quay.

Hope you take the Manly ferry before you leave (and while transport is cheap the $1 charge is just a holding charge - at the end of the day/week, they'll charge the rest, up to a cap).
