I don’t mind a Kingdom Hearts movie as long as they do it right, because what made the Mario and Sonic films so successful is that they stick to the source material, give a great adaptation, and most importantly gave the fans what they want and not bash on them. If KH is going to have a movie they better do it right especially with Disney’s track record of failing films the past recent years.
Sonic movies and Mario movie worked because they told the story from the beginning. Kingdom Hearts should too because of how story heavy it is.

Like, we can start in Destiny Islands/Traverse Town, then maybe the first Disney World Wonderland, and Deep Jungle and the rest of the worlds wpuld be like in a montage before Hollow Bastión AND the end of the World. Or something like that?...

I don't want the original cast to be replaced by Hollywood actors and I stand by that. Like no Sora being played by some unknown 12 year old kid. Or Ansem played by Giancarlo Esposito that's too distracting.
The Original Cast....are primarily MADE of Hollywood Actors lol
@HMK I mean like recasting. And there's more VOs now than Hollywood in the original cast. Keep Hayley and David. Doubt Hayden would come back. Billy Zane has been done with Kingdom Hearts since 2002.

I'm cautiously excited about this. I have been hoping for a KH movie since I was a teenager, but Disney has kinda lost it's magic recently and I'd rather wait for them to get their stuff together before messing with one of my favorite franchises. That being said, if they do it, I really hope they go back to classic 2D animation! 😁
Not happening, ever, Disney has destroyed and thrown away all of its 2D equipment, princess and the Frog was the last movie in 2D and was only in 2D because the Director was a hoarder and hid some of the equipment.
Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn’t care about 2D animation anymore.

My predictions is that this will mostly like be a Japanese produce animated film like Advent Children or Kingsglave and it’ll be theatrical release in Japan but release on Disney + worldwide. Also I don’t think cramming the entire story of KH1 into a movie would not work, it should be an animated series instead.

I love Kingdom Hearts with all my heart (heh) but I can’t see how it can fit into a 1 to 2 hour movie. It would work better as a animated series

As long ss they manage their time right it’s possible. Personally I would make this it’s own plot as opposed to adapting a specfic game.
I personally don't think Kingdom Hearts should be a movie.
Just cutscenes alone we are over two hours for any game. If we were trying to get the full story out it would require multiple movies.
If we do a spinoff movie, we would need to cut out a lot of content to fit any one game into a movie. This would be better as a TV series. It would take about 4-8 hours to tell any games full story (basically 1 episode per world).
This could either be Disney’s redemption story or another victim of the video game movie curse

I was just thinking of a dark comedy spin-off. It's kind of like Wilfred, where Sora is some kid that sniffs too many Paopu leaves, and Riku is desperately trying to pull him back to reality. Riku makes some mistakes, and Sora becomes paranoid and antagonizes him, finds a stray dog and a domesticated duck, and hallucinates them talking to him. All of the "worlds" are just different towns and neighborhoods Sora happens to visit, after getting lost one day, stoned out of his gourd. Riku becomes infuriated, and tries a bit too forcefully to drag Sora home, and eventually ends up regretting losing control of his emotions. After the duck and dog tell Sora Riku's pet mouse is their "king," Sora stops antagonizing Riku. In the end, Sora is too conflicted with his own emotions to associate with Riku, and Riku decides to give him space.
In the next installment, Sora tries mushrooms, while Riku goes to therapy. Sora ends up reliving many of his experiences but starts seeing them for what they really were. Sadly, however, he eats one too many mushrooms, and ends up in a coma, for a year. During that year, Riku starts hunting down the violent gang that sold Sora said mushrooms.
Eventually, Sora wakes up from his coma, wanders out onto the street, and purely by coincidence, finds the same duck and dog. Ready to face Riku again, Sora goes to visit him, but Riku is at one of his therapy sessions. Sora takes Riku's pet mouse, and heads out to look for Riku, encountering several gang members he has to fight, along the way. Eventually, Sora meets up with Riku, and they take down the leader together.
As soon as Disney officially confirms this I'm going to start crying, I want this more than anything as a Disney animated movie, give us a 206-27 release

I've been low-key wishing Square would just buy out Disney and restore it to anything of value. Call me treasonous, but Japan can totally have this one. It would probably be a net positive for the US, anyway.
My personal opinion is that the overall best way to get people hooked into the Kingdom Hearts story is to gently introduce things via a TV or Anime series and make it easy for people to follow without having to dive deep into the games, other media, etc. That’s more fun for folks that are already deeply invested into the Fandom of this series. If the series does well then consider making a theatrical Movie 🎥🍿. That’s my two cents. Definitely start with KH1 as a stepping stone and see how things go from there.
KEEP ALL VOICE ACTORS OF KH AS THE ACTORS IF THE LEAD CHARACTERS . obviously they will need someone that sounds like a young sora . And kairi .
Kingdom Hearts: Re: coded in KH2.5 is basically a 3 hour movie and it’s almost like a retelling of KH1 for the most part. The nature of how it’s structured doesn’t flow so well that it’d make for a very enjoyable viewing experience
A theatrical film would have to expand on how coded was presented in KH2.5 and that brings up problems. Making everything more cohesive would increase the runtime. And Kingdom Hearts needs a longer runtime than stuff like Wreck it Ralph 1&2, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and Ready Player 1 because each world needs to dedicated to it while those other projects have most of the characters appear in one general setting
The longest American animated film is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Miles only visited 3 universes aside from his own, had meaningful interactions with only a handful of Spider-People and even with that long runtime it still didn’t have a satisfactory ending.
In comparison Sora visits more worlds than Miles, meaningfully interacts with way more characters than Miles, and KH1 had a more satisfactory ending than AtS-V.
This task seems impossible
Imo an anime style / Advent Children-Kingsglave animation quality is a necessity for a Kingdom Hearts adaption because I think it’s storytelling style and fight choreography will not work for any other aesthetic as well as it would animated.
Also Disney needs their own original anime on their plus platform because Netflix and Amazon Prime definitely have this in the bag.
Watch it be a 2 hour livestream recording of a first time player against lingering will . The sequel is them beating lingering will
OK. I see 2 ways how a movie adaptation could work.
1. Make it a Luxu spin off. - It could be that loooong story he mentioned at the end of kh3.
2. Make kh1, but in to 2 movies (ala avangers) In the first one you get all the necessary elements for Ansem, some of the more prominent diseny worlds and ends at Sora's sacrifice at HB, with hes heartless waking up being the after credit scene. The second one would start by Dn'G escorting Kairi to safety, this where we get the at this point desperatly needed Kairi screen time and the rest of the diseny worlds in flsh backs while Dn'G explains how they know Sora, it also doubbles down as our BIG chance to see Kairi as the protagonist for a while. The rest of the story plays out, we meet Xemnas while exploring HB after the keyhole is sealed and deep dive is after credits.
If this is a real movie, my money is an abridged alternate timeline to appeal to a wider audience

If they're going to make a movie, I hope they do it well enough to create an entire new avenue of content for Disney. This shouldn't just be a one-off movie, I think it's time for Kingdom Hearts to completely take over Disney.
I guess those people don't understand how and why jujutsu kaisen and demon slayer did so well. Aside from them being very popular and well known. But the films are not just for fans, but newcomers can walk into those films without any knowledge of the series and still enjoy them. Jujutsu kaisen 0 was based off the first Shot Manga, anyways. So newcomers won't get lost. And as for demon slayer, well...demon slayer isn't really a hard complex story to understand. A short synopsis of the series is all you need to know to get started to watch the movie, and you're all set to go. But even without it, you can still go in blind and enjoy the film. And just to add more to it, the new Spy x Family movie has the same effect. You can go in blind and come out of it having fun. That's the beauty about those movies! Kingdom Hearts X is NOT one those categories, sadly. While it is a prequel to the original Kingdom Hearts, it still requires you to have knowledge of the games. It's NOT meant for newcomers! JUST THE FANS! Newcomers would fall asleep because they don't know what's going on. Nomura didn't make Kingdom Hearts X first, he made it after the sequels and to make sense of the sequels. The first Kingdom Hearts is the most logical adaptation to do. Since THAT IS the first of the series he created. Before the whole KH universe started.
I'm trying to imagine a Kingdom Hearts movie trying to adapt the game, and I can't help imagine all the Disney characters trying to get squeezed into a 2 hour showing. It will be a fantastic mess of "wait, why is the kid in Agrabah? Atlantica? Neverland? I'm so lost!"
The only thing I can see them kinda doing is Kingdom Hearts 1 from the perspective of someone else like King Mickey.
He does not need an elaborate introduction, just establishing that he is King Mickey, having the knowledge of stars mysteriously going out. Needing to go investigate, small cameos from Yensid, THE fairy godmother, Merlin, and maybe Pluto idk. It would have to some kind of fight that could happen during the events of KH but obviously not interfere. I could see Maleficent, Ursula, Hook, and Hades, sending minions out to get Mickey, Mickey trying to figure things out but he becomes overwhelmed with the amount of darkness. The final act begins after Mickey is recovering from battle he's lost, and to his aid appears, The Fairy God Mother, Merlin, and Yen Sid's enchanted Broom, all come bearing gifts of some kind to help him fight the final boss. They head into an epic battle while Simple and Clean techno remix is playing in the background (fan service).
The final boss is someone new, someone that can be introduced into the movie but once eliminated will have no overarching impact on the series, I think it should be some kind of Dark entity that is being controlled by Braig, and by Braig I mean Luxu!
Luxu is revealed to be the main baddie pulling all the strings behind the scenes but they don't have to really explain who he is, just some kind of figure in the shadows, and it can be left open in a sense that their might be a sequel, which already exists as the entire KH saga but it would be a way to lure more fans into playing the convoluted franchise. And quite possibly prompt Disney to ask Nomura to Re-re-re-re-master (remake?) KH1 for the Playstation 6, as a soft reboot for the series because Disney is already rebooting some of it's other IP's. This era will be know as the Disney reboot era...
That movie might lead into the events of KH1, right before Sora embarks on his adventures.
I kinda wished that the main antagonist was Chernabog, meaning that while Sora does encounters the big devil at the Evil Grounds, it would had phases off agaisnt Mickey, as a way to don't letting him go to the Realm of Darkness, and the after being defeated, he appears at the End of the World to phase off sora, but then the light that came outta nowhere would be King Mickey's to aid the mysterious stranger (sora) as well Donald and Goofy who were fighting agaisnt Chernabog that time too.

I just started playing Kingdom Hearts sometime after when Sora was confirmed in Smash Bros and after playing KH1 and KH:Re-Chain of Memories, I'm still not familiar on what's really going on. What's back cover and union cross? A manga version back story to Kingdom Hearts before Sora showed up?

I think it is a good idea to keep the kh movies as its own thing. Don’t make the movie fans feel force to play or watch the all of the games. And more importantly, don’t completely change the series characters and lore. I think there is a way to make the kh movie its own thing, without completely changing the characters and lore for no reason.

I feel like Missing Link has potential to be a newcomer friendly story for a movie. And it could cross-promote the game in a way too. I’m personally not too interested in seeing Sora’s story adapted, though I hope the do it right if they go that route.
My second option is an original adventure that Sora went on at some point between sagas that hasn’t been told in the games.
I prefer that they make a series than a film... Because given the complexity of the story overall, if let's say who adapts it for the cinema, people will understand nothing. whereas a series allows you to spread the story over its entire length but little by little.
and of course a CGI series obviously. rather than live action🫡

I’m with everyone else on wanting an animated Japanese adaptation with a series of the games instead of a cinematic film.
How they made the Manga and Novel series was great. Shino Amano has beautiful artwork of the gang and I loved the 2-D in his vision and would love that style in animation! ❤
And some fan animations have made it work well. It might be that the fans make the animations they want to see happen. Which I’m all for since Disney hasn’t made their own.
Whatever route it takes off with with what Disney has in mind.
Sora and the gang, Kairi and Riku, has been 100% owned by Disney for a while and now they can act on this with having the rights and lots of time pass.
They always used to ask Nomura for his permission in what they made with Sora because they knew it was his creation, but my guess now is they won’t need to ask him going forward on this action.
And it will be in their own view which will get more of a green light because of that. And if you seen some of the things that have made it on Disney+ in terms of movies in the past years it makes me feel iffy about it. But there is also some glimmer of hope knowing that they allowed some cool almost fan animations for their Star Wars timeline. The fact they have made a Zootopia series because it did so well. I really hope this gets a green light and they see the hype by fans for what little information they have for us right now.
Because so far it is mostly rumors that I’ve seen.

i don't know how to feel about this news because frankly i don't trust the current heads at disney right now and plus without the original creators involved they would screw it up badly in my opinion.
Adaptations easily. On top of that they can go the marvel route and do a Movie for 1 a show for Com And coded a movie for 2 shows for Days 3D BBS and a movie for 3
Honestly I think it’s one of the perfect ways for Disney to tie in their new upcoming Villains land expansion in Magic Kingdom! The Villains Vale with Maleficent was always the most thrilling and interesting part of KH1 to me as a kid, watching all the various Disney villains from other worlds in the same room plotting. I think they should add in Cruella (as the puppies were utilized and she wasn’t, especially being one of the most distinctive and fan favorite villains that’s likely not to get her own world anytime soon) and The Evil Queen, who could easily be thrown into the mix for the movie for the same reasons of being a fan favorite villain and Snow White being one of the captured POH (still very upset about not getting a boss battle with The Evil Queen.)
Union Cross should be a tv show, not a movie.

I personally think the movie should tie into the game series, they already hid lore in a hotel, why not a movie. But for new fans i think i would prefer if they did a fresh start in way by adapting 1

A series would be better, kh has such an in depth story that a movie wouldn’t do it justice at all
I would definitely prefer adaptions of the games but make the movie as long as necessary even LOTR length if need be so long as it captures the story accurately but a series would most likely work better for that. but you know as long as they do whatever it is well then there will be even less reasons for people to not get into the series if they can just watch movies instead of buying all the games since some people seem so against that
Make the movie the fictional KH1 story Yozora knows Sora from.

20 Minute Destiny Island / Disney Castle Opening
30 Minutes Traverse Town (Visit 1 and 2 condensed), with multiple Disney Cameos
10 Minutes Wonderland
15 Minutes Olympus Colosseum
20 Minutes Agrabah
15 Minutes Neverland
30 Minutes Hallow Bastion & EoW
Should ideally be entirely 2D animation to match Disney IPs included. Condense where necessary. Final Keyhole leads directly to EoW and then the Ansem boss arena on the Destiny Islands.

If this happens I’m guessing they would do two movie cause the first game end on a cliffhanger. Maybe adapt part 2 into two movie cause that’s trendy and could work. Also do some Disney plus series on the other games wait a few years then adapt part 3.
If kingdom hearte gets a movie adaptation i think it should take the movie sonic approach where it gets the lore of sonic but they change it up while keeping Similair plot points
It would help give newcomers something not overwhelming whiles also giving fans somethin new to see
If we get anything, I wouldn't mind a fresh English cast for just this animated/film project
1. Haley can only do KH1 Sora as much as possible, someone else can and there's a lot of VAs who would love be in kingdom hearts
2. This is just for the animated series, similar to how the TWEWY cast in the anime and games are separate
3. If this is worked with SE, this is also worked with Bang Zoom and Aniplex, where Richard and Several Villain VAs work with, the villain roles as well the Disney roles are safe.
4. A fresh cast can help with KH1/2's era on voice direction, even BBS.
5. And more of a personal reason, I have two choices who I know would love to be Sora, one's done a fan dub and other in a fan project
What about Disney (and Square Enix) make a Kingdom Hearts Movie Series? I mean one movie would be not enough to explain newcomers (new players) the whole game as it is so far - we all don't know everything yet - so it would be fair and more entertaining for everyone when every game so far would get a movie too. This would be awesome - at least in my opinion. ❤ And the long wait vor Kingdom Hearts IV would be over too. 😂 (My native language is german, so PLEASE don't be mad, if my english isn't 100 % correct. If anything, it’d be like wreck it Ralph where Disney will nitpick about the Disney characters showing up and how tall they look compared to other characters. I’d rather have the movie be something in the Union xross or missing link that would loosely connect to the franchise. Or maybe involve the time frame between Dark Road and Birth By Sleep
I would love to see a kingdom hearts movie it could be a new story or any of the other that was mentioning the video on the games or it could be canon, but I am hesitant of this because of what happened with sly Cooper

Hm, interesting, if this will really happen, all I hope is for it to not disappoint.
That being said, as much as I would like to see a X Adaptation, i think i agree with you and would prefer a Adaptation of KH1.
I think there is a catch when it comes to the notion of Disney property and Square Enid film rights, they’ll certainly have to stylize and make it a bit more legally distinct since I highly doubt they can use EVERYTHING that Kingdom hearts was able to use in the video games.
But granted whether it will be a fun spin off or continuation, let’s hope it goes well
I would want a KH1 cinema film. And a UnionX/DarkRoad/BackCover DisneyPlus show / series.

A movie would be good if it's only hitting key parts like destiny Island traverse Town hollow bastion yaknow key worlds because movies are only an hour to two hours long if it's all the world a TV series would be better

Honestly, it would've been better to start from the beginning as a series. If they were to do a film, it would have to tie in as canon. If they do an adaption, the first game can not fit into a 2 hour film. So I'm spit ballin here.... Movie based on Verum Rex and establish the characters in Quadratum
i would totally be down for a kingdom hearts animated movie because i always want it a kingdom hearts animated movie ever since back in the day in the 2000s when kingdom hearts 1 and 2 came out and i still want a animated kingdom hearts movie so badly i also heard most say that there was going to be kingdom hearts the animated series on disney channel back in the day in the 2000s but it end up getting cancelled and now i hearing rumors about kingdom hearts animated series on disney plus i do hope this rumor of kingdom hearts animated movie and series is real because i really want to see that happen so badly i would go watch kingdom hearts animated movie if they decide to put it in the movie theaters but if they deecide to put kingdom hearts movie on disney plus i think that's fine too i will still watch it to give my own opinion on it to see if i love it or not

Adaption is cool and all but I dont see any reason for it, because most of the people who watch the movies wont touch the games anyway so
The only downside about having a movie adaptation of KH1 is Tarzan..... Disney lost the rights to Tarzan sometime after KH1 (the game) came out, and that being the case, the Deep Jungle world, being Tarzan's world, would most likely not be able to be in the KH1 adaptation due to that reason, they don't have the rights to do it.
