    I met this guy in a field in my hometown. He was throwing into a net just focusing on something specific. I was launching discs just trying to remedy the problem that my drivers and mid's were flying practically the same distance. He asked if I wanted to be filmed in slo-mo. I said, "sure", thinking, not sure how that's going to help much, seeing how I have no real clue of how to throw. He shared a few things with me from the video, and I started beating all my PR's at the courses. I still have a lot to learn for sure, but this dude knows what he's talking about. I guarantee it.

    This was an extremely useful video. All the putting styles were very well explained. I liked that you gave examples of the pros that use each style. The rope aide or suggestion at the end was fantastic! I've always considered myself a decent putter (ie. I have a pretty high percentage inside the circle); however, something has been off the last few weeks in my tournaments. I decided to re-commit myself to my putting. After putting a rope down as you suggested and keeping my disc along the rope, I had instant success. I got instant feedback. My issue was that I was coming slightly off line. With the use of the rope, it allowed me to know without a doubt I was lined up properly and that I was pulling my disc back and releasing on the correct line. In no time at all my putting was fixed and I was hitting center pole consistently. Using the rope is such a simple thought, but one I never thought of. Thank you so much. Without a doubt, you fixed my putting. And you've given me a tool I can go back to time and time again if my putting falls off the rails again. My putting confidence is back. Thank you so much!

    Links to pros form, super valuable. I wish people would just straight up say it, spush > all. Spin helps with wind/distance. Push eliminates extra rotation to avoid left/right misses.
    I like the rope trick, much better than the sticks I used to line up. Drawing that straight line is definitely key, finding the right stance where you can comfortably impart spin while transferring energy from your back foot>hips>arm>wrist with minimal side to side.

    Solid tip video. Maybe do a follow up/part 2 that covers things like footwork, rear leg follow through, front toe, etc. When I moved to spush putting I couldn't figure out why I'd consistently miss my mark right until someone suggested pointing my front foot slightly to the left (RHBH) rather than straight at the basket.

    Quick question: Do you think the size/type of the basket and the number of chains matters much when practicing? I'm looking to get a practice basket for field work and backyard use. I will need to drive to a field so something portable would be great but I can also throw a full size basket in the back of my SUV. Some baskets are PDGA approved with 24 chains, other baskets appear smaller than the PDGA with less chains (usually 12 chains). Since our local courses use PDGA approved with 24 chains, I am curious to know, from a muscle memory standpoint, if I practice with a smaller basket with less chains if it will affect my putting using course baskets.
    I hope my questions makes sense. Great videos, guys! I hope you continue making them.

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf
      @OverthrowDiscGolf  Před 3 lety +1

      I don’t think it matters all that much. It’s more important to understand how basket differences will affect your putt IMO since courses have different baskets. Learn how to aim on yours and know where to aim on others.

    loved the video, this helped me out a lot. I have one question though, you do this in your routine, as well as a lot of pros do. You hold the disc vertically in front of your face before you go into your throw. I was wondering what purpose this serves or if it is more of a comfort thing like basketball players do when they bounce the ball a certain number of times before a free throw.

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf
      @OverthrowDiscGolf  Před rokem +1

      Not entirely sure, but my guess is that it allows them to set their grip as they hold their disc with their offhand. It also allows the lead arm to be loose since the offhand is carrying the weight of the disc

    I'd like to see a pt. 2, like more about what's effective in different putting scenarios, because most of the time I'm not trying to throw a straight putt into the basket. It's more like, uphill or downhill with some wind, and I'm not sure if I should try to lazer it into the chains or try to just lob it in the basket. I suppose a lot of that just comes from experience, but I can always use tips.

    The best thing I ever did was buy a basket put a 12' wide net behind it to keep fly aways close. Then I took peices of plastic and staked them in the ground every ten feet all the way to 100' for markers. Then I ordered 10 putters identical to my everyday one. Then practiced for 1 hour most evenings. Then when I was sinking about 5 of 10 at 50ft I started just practicing about 20 minutes. My putting got soooooo much better. Good luck to everyone in their journey.

      @@OverthrowDiscGolf Awesome! Just started playing in August through a good friend and so far forehand is my most capable drive. Hardest part so far with forehand is understanding hyzer/anhyzer in relation to forehand. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the forehand video!

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf
      @OverthrowDiscGolf  Před 3 lety

      The main difference between the angles for forehand is how much you bend at the waist. You’ll want to keep the angle between your forearm and bicep around 90 degrees. If you want more hyzer, lean over the disc a bit more starting at the waist. If you want anhyzer then you’ll want to lean off it a bit. For the anhyzer you might need to lessen the angle between your forearm and bicep a little bit, but that would be if after bending at the waist you couldn’t get enough anny on it.
      Hope this helps in the meantime.

    The push putt is not called that due to pushing up on the flight plate. Or at least I've definitely never heard that. If you're using your opposing thumb and middle finger to exert most of the force on the disc, then you are pulling the disc from the front in a snappy motion. That's not a push putt. A true push putt comes off with generally low spin and it feels like you're giving it a little spanking with your palm on the way out. You open your hand to the line and give it a little push from behind. It's true you can elastically load your wrist and get a little free pop, which helps add some spin and distance. But if you do anything more than elastically load it (i.e. you deliberately snap it) you're starting to leave the land of "push putting" proper. Maybe you think I'm too much of a stickler about this, but IMHO almost no one actually push putts (a la Feldberg) even if they think they do. It takes some effort to retrain yourself to putt without snapping your wrist because it's so automatic.
