      Seems like the sf90 you drove was much more stable overall on the track and much faster accelerating out of the slow corners and had no such understeer - it was probably due to the fact that the sf90 has awd, wider tires front and rear and more aero. Or maybe the suspension alignment on this 296 was off as on all Ferraris from factory

    Sensational video! That Supertest is very important after the victory of the 296 GT3 on the 24H Nurburgring race. That’s an excellent performance for a sport car with such clean and subtle aerodynamics (no enormous rear wing, front spoiler, canards, extractors, etc.). The 296 GTB design is very elegant and streetable. As it is, it’s not a track car. I think that with some set up improvements it can do even better! 🏆

    • @emiliospowerballer1441
      @emiliospowerballer1441 Před 11 měsíci +5

      I wouldnt say its not a track car. Its a Ferrari, Ferraris arent daily cars, they are cars meant to be driven like this. What is a GT, or a daily car is just a Ferrari way to distinguish their cars from each other. Although to be fair, Ferraris track cars are not street legal cars, like the 599XX.

    • @elwingy
      @elwingy Před 11 měsíci +23

      @@emiliospowerballer1441 It depends on the ferrari model we are talking about. The 296 in this form is not a track oriented car. Its is meant more as a daily gran turismo driver rather than a track focused one. Which is why Ferrari will release the "Pista" version of it in due course like it did with other models. Even these Pista ones are not hardcore track cars like the McLaren Senna for example. Ferrari doesnt use rear wings and big spoilers etc, not often at least. It prefers a clean design. It is indeed impressive for that 296 gtb with RW drive to manage such a time. And I would argue that the time could be better as there were a few occasion where there were small errors.

    • @emiliospowerballer1441
      @emiliospowerballer1441 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@elwingy I see your point, but personally, it's just something that I disagree with, for a few reasons.
      1) Ferrari produces high end sports cars. So the justification that they are not 'track' enough seems absurd to me. But I do, absolutely agree with you that the cars they test on the Nurburgring can be a lot more 'track focused'. But if you consider that the 296GTB produces 830PS, while its slower than a Lamborghini Huracan, it seems to me that Ferrari doesn't do enough to be competitive. Rather, because it sells 'exclusivity' it focuses more on sales volume than competitive performance
      2) For an 830PS sports car, the 296GTB is relatively slow. However, I'm certain just like you, that if Ferrari cherry picks a few things including the driver, a 6:50ish isn't unreliastic. But also keep in mind, the flag sports car of the Ferrari, the SF90 has not been tested on the Nurburgring. I reckon it probably could beat the Lamborghini Aventador.
      I get what you are saying, but beyond 700PS, a car just can not be a normal daily, or even a GT car. I love Ferrari, I know everything there is to know about Ferrari, but I can see through their BS sometimes. Their marketing department is really good, but in reality, they only sell exclusivity with the idea that if you dont like our products, go somewhere else

      @@emiliospowerballer1441 You have a very free definition of a track car. By your definition every fast sports car is a track car. That's like putting a Porsche Turbo in the same brackets with the GT3 rs. Yes, turbo is also fast on track, but it's not a track car. Also, why did you pick 700 hp as a boundary? Would an 800 hp bentley not be a gt car? It's a track car because it's powerful? Can't be driven daily because it's powerful? Or driven gently on long trips? Cmon man have some common sense. This Ferrari is not a track car, it's a supercar that's fast on track. Like many other supercars which are not track cars.

    • @elwingy
      @elwingy Před 11 měsíci +8

      @@emiliospowerballer1441 I am sorry but I do not understand why you seem to contradict yourself. Let me explain:
      1) You say 296GTB is slower than a Huracan... yet you seem to forget that you are not talking about the Normal Huracan version, but the Performante one. And you specifically use Nurburgring as the only metric here, which is also not correct. You seem to judge cars basis a simple number, horsepower. It doesnt work like that. Its not just horsepower. Its power to weight ratio, its set up of the car, its tyres, its gearing ratio, its aerodynamics its a ton of things.
      2) This is the normal 296gtb version. It is absurd to call that car slow. It is of course usable on track and it offers a great experience, but it is not track FOCUSED car. Permormante is a track focused version of the Huracan. I mean it is literally marketed as such... you are comparing apples to oranges. Other than that the 296gtb is a crazy fast car, in terms of straighline acceleration it is one of the fastest cars out there. But this version is not the "track" version. Even track version of these cars like the Pista or Performante are a joke compared to actual PROPER track versions of these cars like the Huracan GT3 evo or the 296 GT3. Hell an old ferrari 430 gt3 will absolutely destroy the Performante and the 296 pista version on any track out there...

But it takes some much back at the straight. Where it can stretch it legs a bit, it is just crazy fast. With a bit of arrow this car is an absolute weapon. On the other hand: it doesn't need it. I am not sure that I can say the same about the GT3 RS.. no matter how quick it is at the racetrack..
      Moreover, IT IS the entry-level Ferrari model and, in specific, the base version of that model. Ferrari will no doubt develop other more track-focused versions of the 296 in the future. IDK if that's the camera or something, but I have that same exact feeling like in gran turismo sport when you have a track very very bumpy on a section but you feel like the car is still glued and not caring about the bump and you be like " welllll, that's not realistic, wtf GT Sports... AC / ACC / iRacing is more realistic !!"
    Well... I kinda have that feeling that it's not unrealistic at all and that nowadays tires, aero and everything is so at a high level of performance that... supercars are REALLY glued to the track...

      The AF package comes with fixed DSSV multmatic dampers like the Camaro zl1 1le and ford GT as well as many race cars. These dampers however are not actively adjustable/adaptable like the magnetic dampers so many Ferraris use and thus wouldn't have the bumpy road mode. Edit: wow yeah it does bottom out pretty hard esp at the 4:35 mark.

    It was the correct answer to install a super wide bang engine. It is true that the advantage of having a low center of gravity led to this time. Because it is a hybrid, there is also an advantage in acceleration. Although there is a disadvantage in terms of weight, it will be a plus material in total. Personally, I'm hoping for a V8 wide bank engine vehicle.
