It's just so wild to see $15,000 SEGA model 2/3 arcade games of the 90s running in the palm of your hand in 2024.
No, people getting chips implanted and controlling their PCs with it is wild. What you said is more than expected after 3 decades.
@@checkedshorts the "well ahckshuwally" guy in the wild
@@checkedshorts eh Star Trek did that already. It was bound to happen.
@@checkedshortsLol dude took it too serious. Sit down Urkel
@@checkedshortsThis one says in a tech related comments thread as if they wouldn't do the same if they had the chance to.
Just a heads up to anyone wanting to play Daytona USA, emulate the PSN version through RPCS3. That one is made with gamepad controls in mind and actually plays properly. The original model 2 version's controls don't translate well to a gamepad, you need a steering wheel for that one. That's how I always did it on PC, arcade version for steering wheel and PS3 port for gamepad.
It would be cool if there is a hand crank wheel thing on one of these handhelds one day.
I remember seeing someone say that when scrolling web pages on the steam deck the best way is to use a rotational motion on the touch pad instead of just sliding up and down or left and right, I wonder if that's actually possible to do in the emulator. I really need to get around to installing all this stuff and trying it myself.
@@skycloud4802there is a handheld with a wheel crank already
same thing with sonic the fighters.
@@TheMysteryDriver oh yes, it was the PlayDate handheld wasn't it?
Wow about OnionSync, the Miyoo Mini is my companion to EmuDeck, I can’t believe they are working together to do this!!
If Russ ever sells t-shirts, one of them needs to be a checked box that says "YEAH, MAN, I WANT TO DO IT"
I never buy merch from anyone but I totally would for that
Until it backfires one day, and a handcuffed person covered in blood is wearing the same t-shirt as he is led away to prison lol.
I have the firmware and keys but the bios check for Nintendo Switch still shows up red. Can anyone help me on how to get it green like RGC
Just bought my Steam Deck on wednesday, what great timing! Can't wait to try this, thanks Russ.
Do you know how to work the roms? I’m desperate and I cant get them to work 😢
OMG, if you can sync saves between Onion OS and EmuDeck. That right there, is a KILLER FEATURE. :D I love my Miyoo Mini. It's great to bring on any small trip or commute. I have EmuDeck installed on both the Steam Deck and my PC, and being able to continue playing and pick up the progress from any of those devices would be absolutely incredible!
Man, I find myself gaming on my desktop PC less and less these days - the Steam Deck just kills it with the possibilities and convenience.
Thanks for the vid as always, Russ!
Gaming PC + Deck = the best combo. Valve have done an amazing job of streaming PC games to Deck. It works way better than Steam Link for phones.
I installed a steam deck OS on my main gaming PC and that alone has made gaming so much better. As an adult, convenience really is everything. SteamOS streamlines the PC gaming experience very well 👌
I've used my desktop pc far less since the Deck I s noticed.
I've done the same but with my Series X. It has seen very little use since I got my Steam Deck.
This is timely! Setting up my new to me Steam Deck today, thanks!
I've JUST been wishing for an updated guide from you specifically yesterday, esp regarding the steps to re-add/update Yuzu/Citra. Thank you!
Awesome video as usual, Russ! This was perfect timing! I was actually running through EmuDeck this week on my Steam Deck. Though, I had no idea Sega Model 2 and 3 were now available to play! Growing up in the '90s, I played many of these arcade games so being able to play them comfortably at home now is just incredible! I know nothing about the Jaguar, but might check it out as well.
Sega was one of the "Kings of the Arcade" so will thoroughly enjoy revisiting many of these classics and trying new ones! I'm glad we are correcting history so that these games aren't lost to time! I honestly wish Sega had ported more of its arcade games to home consoles, but glad we can now enjoy them again!
Thank you for making this video! I heard a lot of mixed things on reddit about emudeck and updating, so this makes me feel better about opening emudeck again
Damn, I had no idea Model 2/3 emulation was even in the works for Steam Deck! The ability to play Scud Race and Sega Rally Championship 2 in a handheld is insane.
amazing video. cant wait to set up the new emulators on my deck
Timely video as always Russ! I was just searching on how to update Emudeck after the Yuzu and Citra shut down and am so glad to see your video, which will help greatly. You also unlocked several core memories for me - Primal Rage, Jurassic Park and Sega bass fishing were childhood games I thought I have lost to time. So glad to see that they live on and I can even play them on my steam deck now. Thank you so much Russ for doing what you do! Your videos are what got me into retro devices and retro gaming. I am always checking out your reviews before I buy a device. Keep up the good work! 😊
Man I'm so excited you mentioned and showed Last Bronx! Where I grew up, consoles were super expensive and arcades were nearly non-existent but Last Bronx actually had a PC version which I played a lot of (albeit only the demo with Yusaku and Lisa). I still remember the stuff they would say when they won! Eventually my dad put a stop to us playing it because we were essentially jamming dozens of keys on one keyboard and creating loads of noise lol.
Just got my OLED two days ago and getting into emulation so this timing is wonderful
I do have to thank you. This video made me check my Citra install through EmuDeck (I updated it without really thinking about it) and now it's absolutely messy. So gotta figure that bit out. But kudos.
I REALLY appreciate your videos. Clear explanations with a slick, clean presentation. Keep it up!
Thanks, this is really the guide I was waiting for before isntalling the new stuff.
this is great for the steam deck. only gets better with time (unless switch emulators)
Switch emulation is still great IMO. I’m still running Yuzu with their final update for most and just switch to Ryujinx for the other games that need it
@@chiarosuburekeni9325I'm curious what games those are
@@chiarosuburekeni9325 same i just use the newest yuzu version runs everything i need
@@chiarosuburekeni9325trying to get mine running but don’t know where to start
@@Hakaimono_Gaming well you can get ryujinx right from emudeck still. Think it’s a little bit more complicated to get yuzu with the final update these days. I just have it because i never deleted it
Appreciated this video, I've been looking for a Steam Deck OLED to purchase so it was well timed!
Sweet, finally got my Deck yesterday.
I'm glad they finally added a progress bar!
Don't own one, but always appreciate your videos! Thanks for doing a great service to the community!
Russ, it is awesome to see these games running on the steam deck! I remember going to the arcade to play Star Wars Trilogy and it being $1.25 per play. But man it was awesome game! Awesome to see this again. May need to grab it also for my deck!!
Star Wars Trilogy was expensive, but I found it one of those arcade games that didn’t cheat to force you to keep pumping quarters constantly! So it was one of my must-play games when I went to arcades 😁
i'm so happy that you mentioned fighting vipers
Striking Vipers is better
Great video! I think that little tidbit on cross saves with miyoo mini plus with Onion OS is a game changer. Gonna have to get one to compliment my SD OLED!
I spent a lot of money on SWT Arcade back in the day (so much so i could eventually beat it on a single dollar), its probably one of the best arcade game I have ever played. Glad to see you showcasing it in this video. I still play it on my PC with a HOTAS stick but even on a gaming rig, there are some graphical issues. I think there are some configuration files people have put online but i have not looked into it. Thanks again for showing off an amazing game :)
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
So many info
Thank you so much from S.Korea 😁
Seeing that Star Wars game emulated at the end is a dream come true! I remember playing that at my local movie theater, and having the same experience of only being able to play it a handful of times because of the price. So cool that I can finally play it again! What an amazing time to be alive for retro gaming!
It’s possible to configure the steering on those Model 3 games to not be so twitchy. If you search for Warped Polygon and Supermodel, you can find some premade configurations that help a ton.
I like that rom manager will create collections for each system in steam os. I added my entire collection (after a lot of work correcting art and metadata) and I just use the collections tab in steam os.
Dang I literally just installed emudeck using his old guide yesterday! Lol crazy
Found your channel after getting the steam deck oled in December and wondering just how good it is at emulation.
Stayed for the content and I'm now waiting to order an odin 2 pro for a dedicated retro device.
Your videos are not just informative but presented in such a way that even an idiot could understand.
You're easily the apex retro game creator.
Keep it up 💪
I've been playing w/ model 2 and 3 on the steam deck for a while now and now that its part of ES thats awesome. Couple things with those 2. In ES the default start + select doesn't exit games as those are not default hotkeys for 2/3. I had to google the exit commands for both emulators and then manually add it to the default retroarch exit menu if that makes sense. Also, w/ those emulators I found it alot more fun to turn on gyro for aiming and use one of the back buttons to toggle that on/off. Much easier to aim than w/ trackpad.
Phenomenal Video!!
Great vid, subbed
Man Russ is just such a great guy. He even makes sure I eat.
Thanks updating now. I have a second steam deck just for emulation.
Bought a used 256gb LCD deck two days ago for 300€ and waiting for its arrival! Gonna install emudeck day 1 🤣
OMG my local arcade has Starwars Trilogy- and you only have to pay to play the arcade by the day. I’ve gone and just sat down to grind that game. So cool you can get into the deck!
I'm selling most of my physical collection to buy a 1tb OLED with a 1tb sd card. This is the future. Physical games collecting has become a rich person's game and most physical media will eventually degrade anyway. The Deck will revolutionise the gaming market.
It already has, it's affordable, it's powerful enough, it's got an amazing community of support, all the ones that came after the deck are windows based, they are more powerful on paper, but they didn't sell as well as the steam deck so the community is bigger it has more support from indie developers like emudeck for instance
i literally Just got a steam deck this is such a blessing getting a helping video on this
I loved those Sega arcade games, we used to play those on cruise ships as kids :D
Especially Cruzin' USA en some power boat game.
Hey Russ! This is amazing! Thanks for the continuous high quality content. Qq, what did you set on the controllers for Star Wars Trilogy Arcade? It runs pretty well for me but the joystick is incredibly sensitive, making it difficult to aim
Can't wait to pick up a Steam Deck oled
Brilliant video. Just received my Steam Deck OLED and am diving into this update! I have a quick question regarding the resolution scaling within games though! First, does it apply to all emulators in Emudeck, secondly, it seems to require holding start and using the d-pad, though doesn't holding down the start button also act as a shortcut for changing the hotkeys control type?
Many thanks again :)
Nice video!
Could you please tell me, what skin and case you are using on your Steamdeck in this video?
Excellent video as always. The only thing I’m not sure about. If I update, having Yuzu and Citra already in emudeck, will they still work or will I need to follow the additional steps in this video?
A sega model 2 i enjoyed a lot with his port to the sega saturn was virtual on
Using the EmuDeck Compression Tool is a big 'check list' item for me that I feel will clear up some good space on my sd card. With this though I have some hesitancy in getting 'er done.
Any tips recommendation before I dive in and give it a go?
Another big question in regards to this is how multiple disc games will format.
Many thanks for any input.
I love those Sega Model 3 games
about touchy controls in some model 2 games. The emulator tries to emulate arcade steering wheel so instead of flicking stick from side to side you need to pull stick up and turn it left and right like a wheel
That's a good tip, thank you
I love my emudeck! If we need to factory reset, will this mess with much of our Emudeck stuff? I have the games saved on an sd card but its the only worry i really have. My steam games im not worried about at all.
The compression tool seems nice, does it convert the roms to .chd completely? Like if I installed a ps2 rom in the file then I use the tool does it completely convert it to .chd and that is what I would see? or would I see two files?
Daytona USA was my favourite dreamcast game. I bought it in 2001 I think it was.
If I can cloud save retro games between emudeck and a miyoo mini that'll be huge!
I've lost the interface showing up when using the left trackpad with emudeck since the last update. Did someone have the same issue ?
Helpful Video, I don’t think that was Battlemorph on the Jaguar CD though…
Is there any way you could dop a video on how to set up your steam deck to play Wii games with the steam deck as the controls. I cant figure it out
I have a different way of loading files from my PC to the Deck, which no one seems to mention, and I don't know if it is because it's not the fastest, or because I'm still running Win10 and the option is gone in Win11, but...
In Windows, I just make the folder containing the files I want a "Shared" folder, which means its contents are accessible to anyone plugged into my router, or my WiFi network, who also has access to my Win10 login details. (right-click the folder -> Properties -> sharing tab -> share button)
Afterwards all I need to do is open the file browser on my Steam Deck, locate my computer as a Network Device, open the shared folder (it will ask for a login, unless you share to "guests" or "everyone" on the network) and copy -> paste the files from my computer to the Steam deck folder I want them in.
The process' speed depends on your wifi/router speed, it works flawlessly and fast enough in my opinion.
Larger files might take a bit of time, but I still think it's a viable way to do this if you don't have a fast external hard-drive, or simply if you don't want to keep loading your files to a drive and then onto your steam deck.
is it easy to tweak controls on The Lost World and Star Wars arcade? I would love to play those docked to my TV with a ps5 controller and gyro aiming.
Does the lightgun game configs default to mouse region specifically?
Is there any way you can do a video on how to set up the Wii on the steam deck and how to configure the steam deck as the controller
The SW Trilogy Arcade Hoth sequence looked very close to the Shadows of The Empire opening level graphics. How much is it upscaled?
Great video I freaking loved Star Wars trilogy!
My fav model 2 games are Sega rally and Top Skater, awesome arcades at the time.
Have you tried if fightcade works on Steamdeck, to play retro games online?
I have a dolphin sensor bar and I was wondering if there is a way to get sega model 2 and 3 to work with a Wii remote. Would love to play time crisis. If there's a way to get to work on rpcs3 then great
Has the 2.0 version of Cemu caught up on motion controls? 1.27 was the only one working with that recently.
Is it possible to have the emulators to use the same frikkin control scheme? Not sure why but it seems that nobody had the thought to actually unify the control schemes. If you use ES then you use the same shortcuts, but as soon as you switch to PS3, PS2 or DS for example, then you need a mouse to change settings, or need to start all the emulators in desktop mode first, to configure them all.
Would be great if they would just use the same settings... Same buttons to swap screen size, same buttons to open the menu, same buttons to quit and go back to the frontend
BTW isn't better to get the DC version instead of AM2 and AM3 versions? The dreamcast version usually has a lot of extra features, while the arcade has most often than not just the vanilla experience
The number one features I've been hoping for is simple cloud syncing like OnionSync! I'd buy more devices if I could swap them easily!
Those games look Crisp clear
Hey Russ, did you not noticed weird controller setup made from new EmuDeck update? We are also missing Citra, Cemu and Yuzu templates. If Citra and Yuzu are back in EmuDeck, where are the controls themes?
You know the weekend is going to be great when there is a Retro Games Corps video to watch 😁
I love how overly polite you are! Like at 17:40, you just can't say these games suck! Haha! Great video and keep up the outstanding work!!❤
WOW, great video Russ, as now I want a Steam Deck more than ever, and if I never played a PC game on it, I would be happy with nothing but emulation. One of my biggest issues with emulation is the controls, and having access to so many varied options on the SD is next level(pre configured is a dream come true). And for some of those games you had to reconfigure, isn't there an option for community added control configs per individual games that you can download? Model 2 & 3 must look amazing on that OLED screen, as in the arcades I don't think I ever saw any games that looked better then those(truly amazing tech for the time, and they still look amazing to this day).
You can literally map anything to anything with steam input support with emudeck and steam ROM manager. And it's per game too! I have the back button R4 as a gyro toggle for Pokemon snap when I take pictures for example. Easily the best emulation device on the market. The dpad is atrocious in my opinion though. 😂😂😂
Nothing a Bluetooth controller can't fix.
I installed the model 2 emulator put the games in the Ram's folder zip than when I launched it it said something about downloading proton then it closed now it won't even open any tips
I have a dumb question: is it easy to set up control profiles? like if I want to dock a deck and then play head to head on a tv with someone using wireless controllers is it just plug and play or do you have to reconfigure everything?
I've been wanting to get Scud Racers on my Deck for ages, so I'm delighted it's now so simple. Cheers for the guide Russ.
I spent the last week or two trying to decide on the Miyoo Mini or the Anbernic. I pulled the trigger on the Anbernic, but now I see the OnionSync feature. DAMN. 🤡
6:47 the word isn't "slash", Russ. It's hyphen. ;)
Veery tempted to put this on my RG556
Yeah, man...I wanna do it.
It looks like the analogue stick for the model 2 games is actually only operating digitally i.e. fully on or fully off. No wonder the racing games feel twitchy
Hi, are you having any trouble with rpcs3 on emudeck on windows? It crashes when trying to run games. My standalone installation works fine though.
Do hope that EMUDeck's ROM launcher has Windowed Mode in their settings on the jump.
Is there a process to go from generic to the patreon version?
What theme are you using on emulation station? Looks clean.
ArtBook!
Did they fix the whole installing on SD cards thing because for some reason it didn't want to install on my SD card before.
Will using the emudeck compressor tool mess up my roms for future use like say if I get a pc in the future will I still be able to use those same roms because I thought it says it deletes the original rom files
is there a way to use a wii remote and dolphinbar with those model 2 and 3 shooting games?
Important question, did they fix the error where the controls would be disconfigured every time I put the deck on sleep mode?
I can't be arsed with Roms. I have got enough new games with all these humble bundles I pick up. Not enough time or space for old roms lol.I should set one of my 2 steamdecks up with ROMS though. That is a good idea you know. I have a 64 gb one and a 1 terabyte SSd to put in it. plus my 2 terabytes steamdeck LCD and my 2 terabyte ROG ally. I might set the 1 terabyte up with roms and put it in my 2nd steamdeck LCD.
If I want to (need to reset my steam deck according to Valve) what would I need to do if anything to preserve emu deck and my game saves? Do the saves stay on the SD card? Trying to think of where emu deck itself is saved too?
Bump?!
you should be able to copy your emulation folder and most of your stuff will get saved.
I dont know any way to emulate sega model 3 on any handhelds. There is one emulator and its been released only for windows. So seeing this is a great news to me wven though I dont own a Steamdeck
Sega model 3 is specially great for me because I'm beat em up fan, specially SEGA beat em ups and guess what? Sega model 3 has one of the best retro/arcade 3D beat em ups EVER: Spikeout ❤
Yes the same one that fortunately they included in the latest YAKUZA game's playable arcade games 😮
I still havent updated going back to before they started having issues and frankly given the comments I see still on reddit with people having problems I guess I never will
Would love to see how to update on windows or ROG ally
Can’t wait for your video on the FPGBC Russ! (Day 4 of asking :D)
I still have the old Emudeck with Yuzu installed and I'm afraid to update it. Can I add games without being online (turn off Wi-Fi, disconnect Ethernet cable) to update Emudeck?
