Although it came about from something negative, it is very helpful for people that are planning to start making soap as a business to understand the legal aspects of the creations. It's always a pleasure to watch you make soaps and hear you speak on your thoughts, feelings and ideas. You teach without being a teacher ;).

The average price is £150 for your base soap recipe and 6 variants (scent, colour etc) . Once you have your first assessment then its £75 for 6 more additional variants as long as you are using the same base soap recipe. Its a double edge sword for me, on one hand allergens must be monitored closely and assessments/ certification is a good way to do this however I do have a problem with hoops that need to be jumped through and the money each hoop costs. Why does the small scale producer have to meet the same standards, legislation and accreditation as L'Oreal or P&G? the person with a pop up cake shop does not have to meet the vigorous standards imposed on Costa Coffee, as a for-instance. Very frustrating. I don't know how many people I've spoken to who have walked away from the soaping world because they just didn't have the time required to fill in the paperwork, the time to update the portal and money needed to sell their goats milk soap at the local church fate. All I can say is there must have been many many lobbyists representing the cosmetics chemist industry in Brussels in 2013 (there's money to be made). Such a shame. I'm a full time soaper selling to shops but started after 2013 feeling the full impact of the new legislation, I can not tell you how much time in my day I spend on CPSR, CPNP paperwork and my own monitory hoop jumping has cost me over £3000 todate and will get larger as I expand my line. OMG did I just rant my arse off???? I must be more pissed off about the whole thing than I realised LOL!

I know right? The whole thing is crazy, but it all is necessary to keep everyone safe. Sometimes I am pulling my hair out at the amount of admin. @@futureprimitivesoap . The legislation should be the same as the US, Canada, Australia, NZ and Asia. These systems allow for allergen safety, certification and a direct line back to the maker but not at the financial expense of the maker or the time needed to jump through as many hoops. I've often wondered if the EU method has decreased the amount of allergen incidents than the other countries? That would be a figure I'd love to know.

I really found your video very helpful, it explained a lot of things that I haven't been able to find from my research. I started making cold press soaps last year and I love it. I first started off with melt and pour and found that I would prefer to make my own soap from scratch. I did all my research and found all the information needed. This is before I looked into making soaps, I found a lot of information that wasn't relevant for us here in the UK. After a while I decided I wanted to turn my hobby into a business there are a lot of things to consider before you even start getting your assessment. I have been put off several times by the assessment because there is a lot of information that needs to be considered before you start, but I found there wasn't enough explination for someone that is new to the business. I am not sure if other people out there like me are in the same situation with the assessment. I am glad that I am subscribed to your channel or I wouldn't have seen this video, thanks for sharing the information you have about this, it might push me to get my assessment done.

I've been doing glicerin soaps and learning to do cp soaps too, and in the case that I decide to move out of PR and do my crafts out there, I keep on learning from people like you that let us see the real legal process behind the beautiful things that we will create and be legally protected in any way.

Tiggy, thank you so much for such a great video. I always love your videos and watch every time you have a new one out. It was so informative to hear about your assessments. I make soap for home, friends and enter soap challenges, that type of thing, but I'm also developing my range of products to sell and going through the CPSR process myself. I must admit I have sometimes wondered how such a variety of soaps can be produced with today's restrictive CPSRs. I've often heard you talking about your assessment in your videos so I had presumed that as you'd been going for a while that you'd just had to pay for more and more, gradually building up a large bank. The fact that you have a more flexible assessment explains how you can be more flexible with your soaps. I know the 'horrible person comment' was not nice to receive and I'm sorry you had to go through that, but for me, it resulted in a really useful insight and understanding of why some people have a bit more freedom (blimey I went on a bit there :-) )

Hi! I've just found your channel through a post in one of the maker's groups on FB and I was curious how pre-2013 assessments worked. I have to say...amazing video!
Although I have no need to "know" how they worked because there's no option for me to get anything like that now, as a maker who is almost ready to submit my assessments I like to do as much research as possible. I did it (and still do) for my home fragrance business and so it seemed only natural to do it for my upcoming cosmetics.
I like to be able to explain my products and the regulations covering them to my customers and, believe it or not, I have a large number of them who ask lol! Your video has given me all of the information that I will need to be able to give my customers a bit of recent history about making cosmetics and why I can't just create a "custom" blend for them when they ask...because they will! So, thank you so much for that!
I'm so sorry that you had that negativity, the wax and cosmetics world can be a vicious place and people are far too quick to jump to conclusions and spread negativity through jealousy! I have a friend who runs a very successful business and poor Debs has had similar things happen to her...being reported to Trading Standards and all sorts, when everything she does is legal!
I'm going to give your social media links a follow and a like as I think we should all support each other instead of trying to tear each other down!
    Much love x

It's awful someone has approached you in this way, rather than looking into things themselves first, obviously from what you have said they are unaware of current and previous laws otherwise they would not have left a negative comment. Although I must say also that the video you just did is so useful as I know, or I thought, I knew all regulations after reading mounds, researching, etc. but didnt know about uploading labels on the portal when uploading all other information, so this is something now I can add to my never ending to do list. It’s obvious that your commentor is a fairly new soap maker who is frustrated with cost, time and restrictions of the new cosmetic laws in the UK, but there was absolutely no reason to be rude…as you said, all she needed to do was ask a question. I am in the USA, where the restrictions are very limited and nonexistent in some states. I am getting ready to move to a state (Nevada) that has cosmetics restrictions similar to the UK (must be licensed, inspected, submit assessments, outside facilities only...applies to all but soap) and your video gives me food for thought. I am in the process now of creating my CZcams channel as another income stream, as the move will have a big impact on our company. I really enjoy your videos…I love your personality, your humor, your common sense and your products. Thanks for being you! Jan at Pewter Dragonfly

I hope you wake up to praise & much kindness from now💕I truly believe what people put out comes back to them tenfold! Their day will come for being nasty rude & negative😠
You are such a delight to watch & learn from! Chin up & cheers with a good cup of ☕ ☕ coffee❤😁

I am outraged that someone can come along and say all this crap to you. I use Scott and he's a very good friend of mine....my assessment is 168 pages long and covers me for everything I do.....when these 'sad" little people come along to attack someone like you it is just...well sad! If you weren't assessed and registered etc etc...you most certainly wouldn't be on here showing your products and leaving yourself wide open to be called out ! Unbelievable.....clearly the green eyed monster raised it's ugly head! As Matt said...ignore them..these people who cause trouble are only out to do just that.

I had said that but the video cut out cos I'd gone on too long haha! I would indeed be a damn fool to put myself on display, and be breaking the law. Funny really when you think about how ridiculous folks are out there. She made me so mad at first, but then I realised the mouthing off said a lot more about her than it did me. Thanks Phillip, knew your would understand. Xx

Just because you are grandfathered in being able to have different rules apply to you is not your fault. People are ignorant. As long as you have your butt covered that is all you have to worry about. Good for you for clearing it up because of course you do not want people thinking you are below board. Keep up the excellent work. It is all appreciated. We appreciate you and all your lovely stuff. Hopefully you had a stiff one after your coffee. Sorry for your grief with all of this.

Thank you so much! As I'm working on a small bakery/chocolate shop/factory, I know that we need to put the ingredients who's inside the soap on the label... I do know that a couple of time in the year my bosses pay someone who takes some of the things we produce and sell to be tested out, is it the CPRS paper that you're talking about? I did a couples of soap, to be sell later, and I'm seing that I'm screwed xD

I am a new soap making and wanted to sell and so watching a lot of videos and could not understand how many fragrances and colours people used & thought how expensive it would be as a flexi you can only have 6 variance. Wow Tiggy! I can’t believe someone would say something so hurtful and ignorant! Do what you do, let the haters hate, you keep staying positive, and forget about those trolls. The EU/UK has so many requirements, here in the USA people don’t get any assessments, other than very few labeling requirements, they’re not even required to list ingredients. Much more flexible here, you are very talented to be able to keep up with all those requirements. Keep doing your thing!
