As a post menopausal woman, the realization that I MUST let go of the past and change what I do to stay fit and healthy has really resonated with me! Thank you for this episode!

That makes total sense. We have to adjust and move forward or we just waste our own time!

I have to thank you for your wisdom & courage to record/post this video because it is exactly the moderate perspective that I want to adopt to counteract the harshness of my inner perfectionist (who wants to have the same body size & be running the same pace and distance today that I regularly ran 10 years ago). I suspect I will play this clip often to help me remember and apply the truth of your words. The epiphany I just had during my therapy session today coincided precisely with your big idea-that my years of running have built me into a person who can tolerate discomfort and do the hard things that are required in order to build the strength/endurance I need to reach my goals. So while it’s true that I am not currently running with the “same” intensity, I am using that same mental grit or intensity to, for example, watch you tube videos and practice learning how to engage my core & glutes during squats, how to increase hip mobility and how to increase my sense of balance. 14 Marathons have proven that I can tolerate discomfort in my physical running-and now I’m also using that running skill to grow my emotional/spiritual side-I can learn how to tolerate feeling uncomfortable with the “gray areas”-to go to emotional places that I would typically want to bypass because they are not binary (absolute)- the same way I trained myself to be a runner. Small, consistent steps (that I don’t hate doing)!

This was so well said. We can be so intense with ourselves. Lightening up leads to great results most times.

Thank you Holly for another motivational and inspiring video. I appreciate your honesty and for being human that we can all relate to and learn from. I have also learned to be more accepting and mindful of my body and exercise and to be kind to myself through grief, illness, injury and weight gain. With this has come a real sense of peace, joy and appreciation in the sports I love. I have taken up cold water swimming which I am really enjoying and feeling the benefits of. Last week my husband and I cycled seventy miles around three lochs in Scotland with some big elevation up many hills! I was genuinely surprised that I managed to cycle so far and feel so good through all weathers and enjoy it without any dramas! It has given me confidence to know that I’m doing something right and that I can build on this in the future. I hope that you receive good news following your recent MRI scan and thank you once again for your super videos that I enjoy very much.

Thanks for the video. I thought I was going just to stop my training or just walk around. So, I said to myself that I could do it, and one month later, I'm running four miles a day. Thanks again.

This video is like a mirror of my current thoughts :D I am currently struggling a lot, because a few years ago I went to CrossFit almost daily, as well as sometimes a run afterwards, all before my 9-5 job. Now, I barely manage 4 workouts a week and feel bad because I can't keep up with my younger self. But your words reminded me that through my hard training in the past, I formed so much resilience and willpower, that I can do hard things, if the time and place is right. So yesterday, after a month of being sick and barely any training, I finished a 100km road bike race (with 1000 m of elevation) and couldn't be prouder of my willpower through the whole day. Thanks for showing me and reminding me of the power of our minds

That's for the motivation, Holly. I've started going to the gym and not just running after so many years and I have started to plateau in my strength training. I've been thinking about adding swimming into my routine in place of some of my running but don't know how to add it. Maybe I'm adding too much. I'm glad I'm not the only one with these challenges.

Trust your day to day decisions and every other month, check in to make sure you're going at least in the direction of something you want to achieve. Good way to live without feeling too overwhelmed!

This popped up at the right time for me, I'm a runner and I've been injured a lot recently so had to hit the bike and gym which is uncomfortable for me but I'm getting my head around it. As you said it's different and that's ok, I just need to relax and hear that.

Good video Holly, I’ve been running for 12 years or more, earlier this year January I got a knee injury, first injury in 12 years that’s has stopped me from running for more than a week, spent the last 3 months or so slowly working on getting the knee better, when I was younger I would have got all down & depressed from getting any sort of injury, but I found as I have done years of running, injuries are easy to handle, it’s all part of running, you learn patients & it’s better to recover correctly, so you learn to think more in the long term, if you want to stay healthy & happy, I found by entering a few races, as my knee gets better is really motivating, I don’t have to do a good time or get a PB, good luck with getting over your shoulder injury 🏃🏽‍♂️🥳👊🏼🌲🌴😀✅

Thank you for this video! I'm going through something similar, I hurt my knee during soccer and haven't been able to run for a month. I have an MRI in a couple weeks and it's been super frustrating to have to adjust my workouts and not have answers yet. I may need some hobbies that don't involve sports 😅

Thank you for talks like this. It is a good reminder on how to look at things. Can you possible share tips on picking a race based on coming off injuries or trying to move up in distance or training environment. I want to run my first ultra but living in a city my training is different from those running on trails.
