How I Knew I Was Ready to Run a Marathon
I’m excited to try this for my knee! Thanks Holly!
Super awesome tips. especially, putting on the toes socks and avoiding older socks for actual races. Such astute advice! Thanks, Coach!
@@desmondlee8654 happy to help you!! Thanks for watching.
Hmmm….What is the core movement I can do if I’m not able to do the slow roll up yet? Feeling discouraged that I can’t seem to hold down my abs all the way up (to prevent them from doming) but determined to find something else to help me build up to this goal.
Try rolling just halfway off the ground (from laying) and then back down. Basically a half roll. You’ll be able to do the full eventually!
czcams.com/video/dIVN9GUG7zo/video.htmlsi=rw_V8w3btXtrW0Yd this was where I learned about doming
We are about to hit the road for 7 weeks so this will be great (until we wake up the next day - haha)
This is so helpful, thank you!
amazing video. thank you so much.
I'm doing sided lunges with a kettlebell but I didn't know the version with the stability thing at the end! will try it. I'd say just work on your stability in general. When I started doing lunges, my stability was so bad that I couldn't do more than just a few reps without falling over. So I started working on a stability board, then progressed with other easier exercises, got stronger, and now I can perform many versions of them without a problem. Oh, and I love doing planks on a TRX band - challenging, but so worth it!
wow, thank you coach Holly. I was actually able to do the "frog squats" and the "Bulgarian Splits", did a half dozen of each. Even though I have not run more than a mile this year, I've been trying to keep strength training going, while doing the bicycle thing for exercise. The number ONE thing I learned from you years ago, "strength training" for running (((and I'm guessing any exercise)) so very very important. Thank you again for all that you do for us. Have an awesomeness week Coach.
Good information. Let's see if I can do them. Thanks.
I am currently looking for cross training shoes. Any recommendations? Thanks
I love Nike Metcons!
You are wonderful! Thank you Holly!
Happy to help!!
Just in time. 10 hour overnight trail run coming up! I've been practicing my nutrition, loved hearing your suggestions. 😊
You’ll be great!! Hope these tips help.
One thing that really settles my stomach during ultras/longer runs is a plain flour tortilla. Easy carbs, but not sweet. Soaks up tummy acid. Is easy to eat even when your mouth is dry and dusty. Love em!!
@@kathleenbolanos yes great idea I totally agree!
Maybe that's the reason I always want to take a nap after a bikeride that lasts more than 3hours, because my fueling isn't good. I'm going to try this next weekend! I'm not at that point yet where I run for three hours ;)
This is absolutely the best. Clear & concise info. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thanks Coach Holly. 🙏
The best coach ever :) two days ago I tried your routine from the last video after a workout and it helped a lot! I felt quite tight and most of it was gone. Many thanks! it's even better from your previous ones from the Run Experience that I've been doing for about two years now! Do you think one tablet is enough if I live in a very warm humid climate - for one hour and a half workout? Also - if I'm doing one-hour strength sessions, do you need anything in those except for water or maybe tablets before the workout during the summer? I know I sweat and burn a lot as I mostly do it in a HIIT style.
Great tips and reminders about fueling. Love the advice about keeping the trash in one place.
Thank you! I’m glad it helped.
Great tips and such a fantastic delivery without over complication. 👍
Thank you! I’m so glad you liked it!
I like your editing ! Super fun!
I will pass the message to my editor!! :) thank you.
Awesomeness reminders Coach Holly. Hydration seems to be what I always forget, even here in the NYS where the temperatures are not as hot like the rest of the country, and I've only been riding the bicycle. I definitely need the reminder to keep hydrated. Thank you as always and have a fantastic weekend.
So great Holly as always. This years Pittsburgh marathon I took 6 Spring Energy Awesome Sauce's with me. But nothing tasted better than the girl handing out pretzel rods around mile 21 when I started to bonk
Great information. On my first virtual half marathon, l brought three honey packs and a water bottle. I was hurting all day. Thanks.
As always great content and helps me think out my goals and plans without minimizing small daily wins. Recently started following and would like to know how ahead are your Q&A planned, would love to be on next time. Would like to hear more on the 12 Wk Run/Strength Plan. Newby runner Currently training for a 10K, but I think your spot on instead of training for specific runs, learning to be a more efficient runner can translate to any goal later down the line. Again thanks for the down to earth and realistic pov in your content.
This is probably a silly (and unrelated) question, but where is your jewelry from? I’ve been eyeing your earrings for a little while and well now your necklaces too 😂 love!
Ouch, ouch, ouch,ouch,ouch...Loved it, thanks.
@@Jeremy-hw5jn hahah I think you described what we’re all thinking during this, perfectly.
How do hell I not think of a massage gun. Good call
So much good info, going to need to watch this a few times
This is SO helpful. I feel like so many run plans you find online start with a ton of running and don't provide enough context and flexibility. This feels so doable and yet like it would get you ready for a half. Awesome.
My goal precisely! And this is what has always worked for me so I’m glad it feels good for you too!
I'm pretty sure I watched this when you posted it originally, but damn I needed to hear this today. Thank you. So practical and helpful
I’m so happy it’s here for you to watch when you need!
perfect timing !!!! ill put it in practice. Please keep in mind a part 2 with the calves and feet care 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Will do!!
Thank you for sharing this. I will definitely add it my mobility work.
I partially tore something in my knee from a fall but truly with PT, cross fiber massage and strength training-- I've really strengthened my knees and become an ultra runner with no knee issues. It's kind of wild how people will just assume an ache means running is ruled out totally and then not do anything to make it better
Also, wanted to say I had the start of shin splints recently and did the lacrosse ball massages. I was shocked how many knots I had in there!! Loosened it all up with flossing. And wow!! Just 3 of those massage type sessions and it helped so much!! Again. It's shocking how much physical therapy can help
Thanks for sharing!! I really love when you guys share your stories about how you didn't just assume you couldn't run. Nice job troubleshooting the knee and the shin splints!
@@gofarsogood absolutely! And thanks for your videos about it, they were super helpful!
Such a great video to reference. I’m coming fresh from a meniscus tear. Your video is going to help so many people maintain!
I really hope it does!
Love this suggestion! You are the best!
Aw thank you!
Awesomeness, always so good to hear you Coach Holly. Guess I missed a few episodes, but all is well again. OK, had to walk with a cane for a bit, but here I am back riding the bicycle the last few days. Two steps forward and 3 steps back, LOL. I guess the running days are over now, but hey, walking and riding the bicycle at 60 is all good. ONE thing I always want you to know, and remember Coach Holly: This Journey with you for about 10 or so years has ALWAYS BEEN A WIN. You've added 7 or 8 good years of mobility that the doctor didn't think would happen. Never met you, never raced with you, never had a coaching session. YET, it's all good, I will ALWAYS attribute your CZcams vids as the boost I needed to WIN what I could. Thank you is all I got to give, but my life is forever changed for the good because you chose to make free vids and put them on the You tube. Have an awesomeness day Coach.
Always coming through with the best comments! It sounds like you've got many years of good cycling left. Looks like none of the setbacks of held you down too long. Keep up the good work and thanks for always supporting the channel! I'm so glad to have helped you.
My knee finally is no longer hurting after injuring it a few months ago, and I am contemplating starting running again. But i've been really worried about it, as I've tried to start again before and had the same pain crop up. I've recently been able to walk 8-10 miles without knee pain, so it seems like a good time to try to ease into running, and this seems like a sensible way to give myself a little insurance moving forward. Would a massage gun work just as well for some of this? I've found that to be a little more effective than rolling for my legs and hips.
I also don't know how you don't have more subscribers! You consistently give the BEST advice with clear instruction, I hope more people find you.
I understand the fear here, completely! Yes massage gun works, but I do think it doesn't let you identify in as much detail how tight you are in certain areas. Not a problem with that - just a little less efficient. I want to make a part 2 to this video talking about what strength to pair with all this, to make your knees bulletproof. All that + attention to form, you should be golden!
That means so much, wow. I appreciate every bit of feedback so thank you!
I don't have pain in my knees, but sometimes my right knee feels like something is out of place. What I have is some kind of pain on my right hip that when I rub it I can feel it go down to my knee. Thanks for the video.
I will make a part 2 to this, where I go through knee specific strength exercises that should hopefully help your knee feel more supported and stable.
Holly, you are so adorable. You made me smile during your grocery haul (around 20 minutes into the video) because of your pure joy for simply finding the turkey right after talking about the romaine and how you were planning on making turkey roll ups with it. It’s the little things 😊
Haha aw! It really is the little things. Thanks for watching my videos!
@@gofarsogood thank your for sharing them!! You’ve been a huge inspiration to me for at least 5 years, ever since I came across one of your super helpful beginner’s running videos on The Run Experience channel.
When u first start running if your overweight or not u gotta take things slow take it easy for awhile tomany people try and get to fast out of the gate and try to accomplish to much then they get burned out or injured and then there done. It takes months of training everyday to get into shape and years to become a good runner 🏃
Informative and chill, great combination.
Run plans! Yay!
Woo!
The client didn't show up without any notice? Wow, not fine at all. I hope you still get the money... BTW - love these shorts! ❤ Keep them going.
This video is like a mirror of my current thoughts :D I am currently struggling a lot, because a few years ago I went to CrossFit almost daily, as well as sometimes a run afterwards, all before my 9-5 job. Now, I barely manage 4 workouts a week and feel bad because I can't keep up with my younger self. But your words reminded me that through my hard training in the past, I formed so much resilience and willpower, that I can do hard things, if the time and place is right. So yesterday, after a month of being sick and barely any training, I finished a 100km road bike race (with 1000 m of elevation) and couldn't be prouder of my willpower through the whole day. Thanks for showing me and reminding me of the power of our minds <3
SO proud of you! Way to get through 100K and that elevation on the bike. Be patient with yourself - it's just a new chapter!
hi holly followed the channel for a while and its improtant to be kind to yourself , thank you for this video
Happy to help!
Love 1080s! My favorite shoe
I love them!
Love and would definitely buy a training and strength plan!
Awesome! I am excited to share them.
Would love a 12 week strength/run plan. I have been working on intagrating strength training into my weekly schedule but any guidance would be great. I have been running, half marathons and shorter, more recently, and have two coming up starting next January.
Perfect!
Love the Q and A’s, hell, like all of your videos, and this is a good time. I like a schedule for beginners, couch to 5k that in corporate the number of days to run, weight train and mobility work if possible.
Dangit!! stupid work, I missed the live this week.
All good! It’s up now :)
