The observation about these guys being good, well practiced/rehearsed and excellent on their instruments is all true. You can add this band to the names of similar quality groups from back then.....Hall/Oates, Ambrosia, Little River Band, etc. These dudes were as good as anyone of that era.....just a real tight groove, and they played their songs just like the original recording.....not a note or beat missing.....kudos.

Even as a kid, when I heard that song on the radio, I thought the end begged for a jam session... This is why you go to a concert. That jam was fantastic. That drum solo was sizzling. I would like to have heard more guitar but Mr. Jenkins thought everyone else deserved a chance to shine, even the audience. FIRST RATE!

I loved Pablo Cruise's sound when I first heard them in the late 70s when I was going to school in the late 70s in the Central California Coast. Fast forward to the early 2000s when I was saw them live in a small, intimate Saturday afternoon summer concert at Galante Vineyards in the Monterey County coastal hills. Awesome time, great sound and took time afterwards to meet up with the band members, all of them very personable and friendly. It was obvious they were happy to be there and were having a great time themselves...

This is one of those bands that I always forget just how musically talented they are/were. They remind me somewhat of Ambrosia, the Doobies, and Hall & Oates (though I'm a much bigger, well really, MASSIVE Hall & Oates fan!) in how they wrote some really solid blue-eyed soul songs with silky smooth vocals right up there with the "real" soul bands like The Temptations and The O-Jays. If you didn't know that these were white guys upon first hearing this song, you wouldn't know that they weren't one of the legendary R&B/soul male vocal-driven bands from the late 60s/early 70s.
The whole "Yacht Rock" thing pokes gentle fun at this whole genre, but it also really pays heed to the amazing production values and pure musical chops all of those early 70s soft rock/jazz fusion/blue-eyed soul bands had going on. There's a reason that these songs endure, and that I can remember every lyric and guitar riff 40 years later.

@@jeremyhelm2833 Another epic guitar solo worth checking out in the "tasty" category is the one in Pat Benatar's "Precious Time". It's a song from the early 80's and Neil Geraldo delivers one of the most creative, tasty, and atmospheric guitar solos halfway through the song. The tempo is measured which sets the stage for a perfect blend of tone and unbelievable phrasing.

The original bass player and one of the singers was from my home town of Greenville , Ms. and I played in a band with him when we were kids. I was his drummer. He wrote and Produced A Place in The Sun. Sang Atlanta June. He was a great musician. He Passed away with Kidney failure. The one and Only Bud Cockrell. He left this band to play with his wife Cockrell and Santos. I always thought it was a big Mistake, but I am sure Pablo Cruise knew how Bud was. It was always that way or the Hiway. When we were kids he slipped and fell off the diving board at the city pool and broke his front teeth out. he always said to us ,when I get big and famous I am going to get me some new teeth. On Pablos first album he had a big Smile with new teeth. I will always love and Miss you bud!

God this brings back so many memories of hanging out in high school. I always said that Pablo Cruise was very under rated at that time in the 70's. I was a teen and for the most part i was into Funk, Soul and R&B, and i mean heavily into those genre's at the time. I'm African american and i grew up in Orange county, California, and went to a predominantly white school in the city of Irvine, California. So obviously most of my high school friends were white. One day i was over a friends house, on a weekend, just hanging out listening to music in his room. I brought some albums over because he asked me to. He wanted to expand his knowledge and appreciation of different types of genres. We both were in band class together on wind instruments. (trumpet) He was heavily into classic rock and soft rock and the blues. I played him some "Al Green, Isley Brothers, Earth Wind and Fire, Parliament Funkadelic (feat. George Clinton), The Commodores, Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, George Benson and a host of other soul singers and bands. He fell in love with Al Green, and Teddy P. and Barry W. He said their voices were amazing. All through the years we've stayed in contact and he still thanks me for introducing him to Al Green the most. He has turned his kids on to Al and they have had a broad appreciation for different kinds of music and artist, thanks to me, he tells me. Well that day in his room. He played me some Al Stewart (Year of the Cat) album. He also played me some Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt, Supertramp, Robin Trower, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Eagles, Boston, Foreigner, Kansas and a host of others out at that time. But one album he played for me was by PABLO CRUISE, and this one section of this song @ 1:42 , the guitar part, got me hooked on PABLO CRUISE and their sound. I went out and bought Fleetwood Mac and Pablo Cruise. lol Now keep in mind my cousins were heavily into soul music and thought WTF are you doing listening to that "white boy shit", (theirs words not mind) and being black. hahahaha Oh well! Well i didn't give one rats ass about what they thought. When i heard Pablo Cruises music, it made me happy and feel good and i could relate to what they were talking about, (as i was falling in love with a girl from high school in band class a the time) lol, But also along with that killer guitar solo. That guitar part inspired me to take up guitar in high school. Most Soul and R&B and Funk music didn't have guitars highlighted for solo's. So thank you Pablo Cruise and to my friend/brother for life from high school for introducing me to a whole new world of music in the 70's, that is appreciated heavily by me, to this very day, no matter the genre. Good stuff indeed Pablo Cruise. You guys still have it.
    Thanks for the upload.

I loved two of their albums and killed my cassettes (Worlds Away and A Place in the Sun). It's sad that Bud Cockrell didn't make it to their reunion. But the new bassist is more than capable, and fills his shoes comfortably.
Dave Jenkins is an incredible and under-rated guitarist.
    This is their signature song.
And the teenage answer my friends and I always said, sotto voce, was "Get blue balls!"

I think Bud would have approved! Having been in the music business my entire life based out of Santa Barbara and yet living so close to Corrie and never worked together again since the California tour. Dave your voice is there and Steve holding down the bottom end with the bass player. I got a find a way to see you all again. I think it was Fresno, China Peak ski resort, Mountain Aire Festival, SanJose, LA Tahoe San Francisco, I don't think we did Day on the Green that year. I was with SOS Sound on Stage then but the 80's got in the way!

The 1st concert I ever attended. An older gentleman up the street from me got me the ticket. he worked at the concert location. Dale was killed when he stopped on a bridge to help someone that had broken down in Grand Junction CO before they came town. One of the best concerts that I have ever seen. the memories.

Good stuff...I was in high school when Pablo came on the scene. We used to say, "Let's Pab" Paub...when we were going to leave the vicinity/party...instead of "cruise".

"that bass is wicked happening...the break at 2:18-2:22"
That bass player's uncanny rendition of (the late) Bud Cockrells' vocal parts 1:31-1:39 is awesome as well!
