    The baby blue along the bottom of the boards just added SO MUCH to the look of the game. Just gorgeous!

    27 years and counting. My God, time is mean and leaves you with only memories. Still waiting for #25

    I'm kind of nostalgic for the days when so many Canadien players were French. It gave them a unique identity.

    The stars were aligned that playoff for Mtl. win . 100 yrs of the cup - Series dedicated to Habs great play by play man Danny Gallivan . Announcer Claude Mouton passed that yr also . Then you have Jacques Demers telling the team at the start of the season that Montreal would 'shock the world ' and win the cup . Add to that the man who practically 'owned ' the cup Henri Richard presented it . ( Did u see the way he looked at his old friend). L.A didnt have a prayer. So all i have to say is . Thank You # 33 for the 24th cup and i dont mean Patrick Roy . I'm looking at you Marty.

      Nicely said Daveyboy. I'm starting to wonder if some of the magic of those years were lost when Mouton passed. I think he played a bigger role than just a p.a. announcer, I think he had a lot to do with taking care of new players, things like places to stay, uniform numbers etc.

      @@canuck_gamer3359 In Roy's book , at the beginning of the season he got new pads and said , ' ill win the cup with these . Im starting to think we need him as a coach or a GM , not some guy who says , ' our goal is to make the playoffs and anything can happen ' wth kinda thinking is that ?

    When you look at that team you really start to appreciate the genius that was Serge Savard. Was he perfect? No Did he make some bad trades? Yes. But compared to the past 30 years, the time during which he was the GM were like a dynasty. His teams scouted, drafted and developed players better than any team in the NHL over a long period of time. Players like DiPietro (who was huge in the playoffs) and Stephan Lebeau were undrafted (and that was during a time when there were 12 rounds, not 7). Bellows was part of a trade for Courtnall, Damphousse was part of a trade for Corson and Muller for Richer. The current team's problems begin with the poor job of scouting and drafting and are compounded by poor development. At the end of the day Geoff Molson is responsible because he has failed to identify the problem and is trying to exert too much control. The Molson's in the past created hockey dynasty by keeping their noses out of the operation and by hiring the absolute best people available to run the team. THAT is still possible but only if he realizes what is happening and the futility of carrying on like this.

      @@disneyfan8719 LOL..I knew some sharp eyed person would jump on me sooner or later lol. But really this years run doesn't change my mind. In fact, just imagine if they had even one or two really good players they drafted in that lineup! He deserves credit for some shrewd signings (Perry, Allen and Tiffoli) and he really got the most out this team. But the problem is still the same- terrible drafting record and even when they do draft a good player, they don't develop them well. (Ryan Poehling is the best example). Anyway, nice jab. :)

    What I wish Ron Maclean should've said in the pregame in the wake of the Leafs losing Game 7 to the Kings is "If it wasn't for Leafs fans last Saturday night, it wouldn't have been for us on that nights of what happened to President Kennedy, John Lennon & Martin Luther King."

    Kings would have won that series if not for that stupid stick penalty. What a joke.

    • @nicks.6341
      @nicks.6341 Před 2 lety

      The joke, actually, is that an offensively ineffective player like Marty McSorley had the infinite wisdom to use an illegal stick in the Stanley Cup final in the first place. The Hockey Gods don't f**k around with that sh*t and there is no other place on earth that housed more hockey Gods and hockey ghosts than the old Montreal Forum. Their coaching staff should have intervened and never have allowed it. Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

      @@daveyboy_ From what I remember they lost the three games after the stick incident. I think the series was 4 - 1, the stick game gives them only 2, you have to win 4. They lost both games in LA, stick had nothing to do with that.

      @@daveyboy_ Who knows, really and that was 30 years ago... ouch. But I am thinking Gretzky is strong enough mentally to say hey boys we are coming home with a split, we now have home ice advantage, lets go. But they lost both games in LA...granted in Overtime...so Montreal was a bit that year. I think the gods knew the Forum was closing soon and it was their last chance for magic!!!!!!!! 🤣 That Mtl team was solid however, especially starting with Roy and the D was pretty strong too. Anyway, its in the past but it was fun
