I feel like some foil or a metal container to boil water is needed. Everyone is going to personalize it to fit their skills and need. Nice cup of tea would be nice on the first night of traveling.

A compass is redundant for a small survival kit when you have the sun to use as a compass. Takes up needed space.

Throw in a good Leatherman. It will have scissors, screwdrivers, wrenches, knives, etc. All in a compact space.
