- Sophie Uliano breaks down what it is in your moisturizer. She explains that the reasoning behind having to keep re-applying it is because most moisturizer contains up to 70% water, which evaporates when it hits the skin. Sophie shows you how to make your very own all-natural moisturizer at home!
HIBISCUS ROSE MOISTURIZER
Ingredients
- 1 tsp beeswax // goo.gl/dHgxSX
- 2 tsp cocoa butter // goo.gl/NgA3XR
- 4 tbsp Sweet Almond Oil (goo.gl/ZYjsY2) or Jojoba Oil for oily skin (goo.gl/9HxYfv)
- 4 tbsp hibiscus tea // goo.gl/XJ6nx6
- 1 tsp emulsifying wax // goo.gl/h3nMwH
- 1/2tsp rose oil // goo.gl/qiM36Z
Steps
1. Heat the beeswax, cocoa butter, and oil in a double boiler (or bowl over boiling water) until all the butter has melted. Set aside.
2. Place the hibiscus tea and wax in a second bowl, and place over boiling water (or double boiler), heat until wax melts.
3. Make sure that box melted wax mixtures are around the same temp (if they haven't started setting, you'll be good)
4. Slowly pour the tea into the melted oils, whisking vigorously.
5. Add fragrance and mix well.
6. Pour into sterilized (hot dishwasher cycle) jar.
7. Store in fridge for up to three months
8. Use on body and face morning and evening.

Made a pot of it and I'm out, so just about to make another one it's lovely. Thanks Sophie, look forward to more recipes! 👍
I added organic chamomile Tea And Extract in one of mine, in another one I added Green tea And In another Flower buds
Wonderful
Bravo Sophie...
Thanks for sharing with us
I like the way you show us how to make these recipes...
I am trying to keep up with all your lovely videos ..
great video. super informative. it really is interesting that some people don't look at ingredients losts
Ik it’s late so you probably won’t see this, but Cteyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol so its actually good for your skin!
I make a Cocoa butter moisturizer without using water that way i dont need to put in any emulsifier wax. Ecosoya Q220 can be used in Mousturisers, lotions, butters, balms & makes the safest Candles & Tarts in the world.
I added Raspberry Exfoliant seeds, Sweet Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter. A tip iv learnt over the past 4 1/2yrs is that you can mix tea whether its this one in this recipe falled Hibiscus tea into Bentonite Or Diatomaceous Earth Clay to add it to body products if you dont have emulsifier wax :)
What a fantastic tip!
Love love love your videos! I just discovered you, and I'm so grateful! Ty!
Thank you!! Have you subscribed?? Let me know if you have any requests!!
Sophie Uliano yes I have! 🤗 I wish I had known all of this year's ago, but I'm grateful now!
GREAT RECIPE THANK YOU!! by the way he is absolutely adorable!!!!!
Thank you!!
Great way of getting the message across
Isnt cetyl alcohol a fat, its what makes up emulsifying wax
In moisturisers I Use Emulsifier CA/20 Wax is the best to work with. Also did you know you can add Ecosoya Q210 to some skincare as it’s the only soy wax that has been dermatology Tested Safe for All skin types plus it makes amazing massage candles & the safest Candles & Melts you’ll ever make as it won’t burn or blister the skin if accidentally tipped over. Iv tried this myself and it’s a top seller of mine, also it has excellent Hot & Cold Scent throw and with the Melts In clamshells you can add one square per 7 days,
⚠️⚠️ Also I would Highly avoid using Essential Oils or Blended Essential Oils as certain people have reaction to these, Essential Oils & Blends don’t just smell nice, they also have a range of properties. I’m a Qualified Aromatherapist and Qualified to use them. Don’t rely on Google to see what they are or aren’t good for.. GET QUALIFIED... It Doesn’t Take Long And you could save a life by knowing what oils are Good and which ones are toxic.. ⚠️⚠️
⚠️ I also advise that if your using Lavender aka True or Common DONT Use it⚠️ Use the lavender with the Botanical Name Lavendula Offisinals as it’s a Lavender Essential Oil Everyone can enjoy without any problems.
Wow!! What an excellent recipe!! Just what I needed! I can't wait to make it!! Sophie, you are a life saver of skin!!! 👍💖👍
I'm so glad!
I am waiting on my emulsifying wax and vitamin c powder. I have all different oils, jajoba, avacado, grapeseed, veg glcerine, Shea and cocoa butter, rosehip seed oil, geranium, frankensense, tea tree, lavendar, sweet orange, and peppermint oils, all organic USDA grade of course! How can. Make a moisturizer for now because now after using your masks, facial serums, ace wash, toners I don't dare want to put my store bought creams!! Thanks!!
Love it, Korinne! Keep up the amazing work!
Hi Sophie!
Your videos have become a part of my daily routine for a few weeks now, and you've inspired me to begin creating my own natural beauty products. You're so inviting and easy to learn from!
But I have a question: How long does this moisturizer keep for before I ought to make a new one?
Thank you so much, and please never stop doing what you do so well!
Sincerely,
Sadie
Should keep for a couple months, Sadie! You are so lovely, thank you for being a part of this community!!
Loved your video. The advise was to keep it in the fridge for up to 3 months. Should I wish to preserve it out of the fridge, say to gift. Do I use phenonip from bramble berry or another supplier. Or do you advise something else. Thanks. I am away to make your healing soup. You look so young and healthy.
Great video but a much simpler recipe is to just mix coconut oil and some lavender oil and use it as a moisturizer.
Thanks for the recipe Sophie. You are the best. But I'll do admit that I cringed a little bit when I saw you spill that moisturizer with the very precious rose oil. I wouldn't dare do that. The bloody oil is so darn expensive.
Oh my gosh DON'T I KNOW IT!!
Hi sophie, love all your products. Will defo try it. Can we add shea butter instead of cocoa butter to the skin moisturizer.
Still waiting for your reply
Can you do a face cream that is non greasy please. I hate that heavy shiny feel of all that grease on my face. Thank you
Hey, u are really awesome.... Do u train cos if yes am so much interested. In learning
Hello Sophie, I would love to use the “All Natural Moisturizer | Homemade, Natural Skin Moisturizer” ingredients/instructions as an body/face moisturize lotion but my question is .... do it really has to be stored in the fridge for up to 3months?
Sharina Pegram .... am wondering if it because of the tea? What if you just use water? Dont want to put cold lotion on my skin!!! Hope she replies
Can we use rosehip seed oil?
Hello, Sophie Can i use rose hydrosol in place of hibiscus tea?
Where can I get emulsifying wax?
There are hundreds of product listings for emulsifying wax on amazon. Here is the one I use and it works great!
smile.amazon.com/Emulsifying-Wax-Nf-Polysorbate-Polawax/dp/B006RKJ9IG/ref=sr_1_7_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1499492685&sr=8-7&keywords=emulsifying+wax
please use a preservative.this will grow mold in a few days.
Thank you. There is a reason why cosmetic products have all those preservatives in them. I swear to you if you make any of Sophie creations, the first day it will be great, but after a couple days you will either get mold or your cream will turn sour. So add a preservative and those are not almond oil, rosemary extract or whatever. But a chemical one. One of them is alcohol, I mean there is a reason why they use alcohol in a hospital to sterilize materials and hands: To kill bacteria. Before you put your cream on you, check the ph value of the final product and based on that add the preservative and then check again the ph value. Do your research people!
@@iammewhoelse9430 lavender essential oil is a natural anti - fungal that's why she added it. That pot would last a week no problem. Probably longer in the fridge. I make my own stuff all the time & nothing has ever gone moldy on me yet.
@@sorscha1308 She didn't use lavender, she used rose. And this will absolutely grow microbes. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they're not there.
@@Bramble1976 you're quite right i thought she'd put Lavender in too but just rewatched & i obviously imagined it. It does say quite clearly on the screen to refrigerate the cream though, so that would keep it in reasonable shape for a while. Not months though, i take your point. I make my own creams & stuff all the time and never have any of them gone off or grown their own progeny or anything but i do ALWAYS use preservative essential oils like lavender or tea tree, alongside whatever else is in it. As long as you do that much of what you can make yourself is fine, in or out of the fridge for a few days to a week (as long as you don't live in florida or something).
how to increase the self life of it
I have made this twice, and both times it turns out to be a balm instead of a cream, which is fine, except my make-up (foundation) won't go on. I have tried mineral foundation and liquid. I have followed the recipe to a tee, and my products are all from Mountain Rose. I also made sure that both dble boiler ingredients were the same temperature before mixing. Yours looks like it is more of cream, my is the consistency of a balm.. Any ideas?
I actually noticed it was a balm as well that melts by rubbing into palms. It wasn't a cream texture
I tried to make this today because it looks so good but I must have done something wrong. The tea/wax and the oils didn’t mix at all. I ended up with wax that had set on top of the tea 😬
you need to make sure the temperatures of both the was and tea solutions are the approx the same!
Sophie Uliano oh I missed that. Thank you. I will try again
Sophie Uliano sorry one more question. Will Candelilla wax work as the emulsifier?
Can I use white beeswax pallets ?
for dark lips what you suggest? ?
nice
Hi Sophie, Could you share a recipe for a face day moisturizer that includes Nano-Zinc for high SPF? I have tried a couple of times but the result lands up being rather paste-y and not really usable without some serious rubbing in action which I believe harms the skin. Please please. Thanks a ton!
Great idea - I will!
Hey..i am from India...i wud want to buy some products from bramble..but do not know if that wyd be delivered in here...pls letme know how to buy them.
Awww my darling - you will have to email their website to find out.
Can I use red berry tea instead of hibiscus?
Sure!!
Dear Sophie
I made this recipe and it was too runny what could I have done wrong
are there natural thickeners
thank you
I would say, try adding more beeswax a tsp at a time. That will thicken and harden your cream!!
Can i add l absorbic acid to this cream,? Can apply it to my face too??
I have better DIYs for your face, Hasna! Check out my DIY playlist for more!
How long will it stay??
I worried about the preservative. I don’t want fungus.
Keep in the fridge if you are worried about this.
fatty alcohol like cetearyl alcohol is not the same as ethanol or isopropyl alcohol which are drying. it's in a formulation for emulsifying and emollient properties. water is needed for skin hydration. mineral oil is a humectant which keeps that water in the skin and reduce evaporation. It's not cling film. finally, this homemade moisturizer will be good for 2-3 days before it's filled with bacteria and will grow mold in a week without a preservative if kept in a humid environment like a bathroom. please be careful. a lot of thought goes into a formulation.
I have everything already except the emulsifier.. Did you use cetyl alcohol?!
I'm using an emulsifying wax from Mountain Rose Herbs in this one!
Why do you have to put emulsifying wax i??? Isn't it bees waxed do the same ????
No emulsifying wax mixes the oil and water components - beeswax does not.
made this twice...first time was a little too stiff...think i added too much beeswax..but second time it separated!! went right by the recipe...can you help me?
Hi Sophie what about preservation ? How long will this last ?
It depends on how you store it. I always store in the fridge for up to 6 months.
Sophie Uliano ty 💕
How to preserve without refrigerator up to 1yr
Mohan Textiles lol i guess we will never kno
how to increase the shelf life
Put it in the fridge!
Why did you skip over the humectant glycerin? Petrolatum helps keep moisture in and cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol that helps emulsify the product and it's also an emollient.
Beeswax is not vegan
Half a dollar? Doesn't she know what the stuff costs?
SurfergirlKH when u break it down to make a smaller batch yes its approximately what it costs to make yourself
Ok, but that emulsifying wax contains alcohol, so whats the point?
This recipe is inaccurate. I bought all top grade ingredients and waisted a part of them on the measurements you gave in the description box. There's no way you can use 4 tbls of hibiscus to 1 tsp of wax. I wound up with an ugly purple dough. A waste sorry to be so blunt
Rose perfume on your face huh , nope not me , mess around and wake up looking like a pizza
"and its for men and for women" yes, because we didnt know that already...
OH~ he's part of some show....ugh.
So much misinformation, she’s has no idea what she’s talking about
