The point missing is, it says , in the same way he went into heaven. When he ascended a cloud hid him from their sight, as he went into heaven. Point is they only saw the cloud he was in, they never saw him literally go into heaven, They saw him lift off the earth but did not see him go into heaven, the cloud hid him came back in the clouds.

Regarding 2 Peter 3:12,13 are we supposed to take that as figurative too? Will life on earth continue indefinitely as it is? Because it sure seems like satan is still the god of this world. While the full preterist view answers some questions it leaves others unanswered. This world is a cesspool of unrighteousness NOT righteousness. When and in what way did the new heavens and earth come about? I feel like preterism explains away everything until there is nothing left to look forward to but death.

His explanation of Acts 1 is not a good explanation. He infers a great deal into it that the words themselves do not say. This adds to the words themselves. .. which clearly says Jesus was LIFTED up and a cloud took him out of their sight.
It also says that He will come back in the SAME WAY he went to heaven.
The sky didn't part in AD70 and every eye didn't see him coming down to earth in ad70 as he left

I have been looking but fail to see anywhere in scripture the term "the second coming." I certainly acknowledge the many scriptures in the Old Testament when God came in judgement on Nations.
You say that all Christians believe in the second coming. I actually don't think that is accurate. To say they all believe that Yeshua will return according to the Gospels would be more accurate.
It is interesting that in Acts 1 Jesus doesn't answer their question about the Kingdom. As a matter of fact He says the time of any restoration is only known to the Father.
So what I'm seeing in this account is that it doesn't seem to be related to "that generation." Nor does it seem to refer to the Son of Man coming in His glory.
It seems to me to be saying that Jesus has given the disciples an open-ended prophecy of future "time" or "season" which the Father has put in His own authority.
This seems to be in contrast to the accounts where Jesus very specifically indicates time and season throughout all 3 Synoptic Gospels.
So I don't quite see the problem from saying in Acts 1 that Jesus will return physically to the earth. I think is a little disingenuous to throw the question of what type of apparel He will be wearing upon arrival.
My question is why do we (I'm referring to Preterists and Partial Preterists) acknowledge the various comings in the Old Testament and then set up a term called "the second coming" in the New Testament and then ridicule any doctrine that may ascride third coming??

I'm a partial preterist. Pastor Curtis is interesting to listen to, but where I differ with him is 70 AD was not the 2nd coming, but a "coming in judgment" using the Roman armies. The ancient creeds all teach that Jesus will physically return at the end of time. There will be a loud trumpet, the graves will be opened, dead believers will be resurrected, and those of us still alive will meet Him in the air. Human history will cease and eternity will start. Comfort one another with these words. Pastor Curtis has gone down a path (full preterism) that is contrary to all of Christian history. Repent, Pastor : )

The 2nd coming was future to them when the apostles creed was formulated. So you are right, but wrong in the recognition of its application. Daniel's 70 sevens and Daniel ch 12 do not allow a fulfillment beyond the 1st century. Even Jesus's own words contradict your assertions, so, who is right, you or Jesus?

@wmfivethree sure, the book starts and ends with SOON, but alas, it has a deeper meaing. Pray tell what that might be, while you're trying to do that, you ruin the credibility of Jesus and all the biblical writers, but that ain't no big deal, is it? Nah.........

The word coming is not in the scriptures, so I have always wondered why the Church creeds used the word coming? It is parousia. A presence. Here is how it works: The early fathers mistakenly thought of a literal return instead of using the Hebraisms of the OT. Most of the church fathers whose work is extant, were gentiles.

The Lord (Jesus) is the Spirit and where the spirit is is freedom. It is God's spirit (power and presence) coming to believers through Jesus the mediator. The risen Christ became life giving spirit. Jesus will be with us until the end of the age. In the spirit.

I don’t like it when he describes Jesus as a short Jewish guy surfing on a cloud. Almost sounds like he is mocking God and His word. Doesn’t sit well and I don’t find it funny.
