I'm ordering parts today
Caleb - can I recommend 4 x 120mm fans in front (which your case supports), this will address some of the common airflow issues many encounter, as well as closing/taping off any gaps/holes next to fans so air can't recirculate from the inside... a "true through" of air rather than least resistance (often air already inside), that will help all the components.
thank you very much for the sharing ,I'm doing the exactly same thing following your instructions, but I have a question that does this hba card support 16T sas harddisk?
This is brilliant, thank you!
Thanks for your videos. subscribed) I think chia is a very interesting project. I have a question about CPU and RAM. On what characteristics should I watch when buying cpu and ram? Is it reasonable to buy the toppest ones?
For those who wondering. It's slot 5 and 6 that becomes occupied when you using M2 disks. Slot 1 and 2 are closest to the RAM.
I thought I saw your video somewhere a few years ago. Now I remember. The SQL guy. Lol. Thank you for your videos during my CompSci courses.
Same! He helped us with our studies and maybe now he'll make us crypto millionaires 🤑 Thanks from me too!
Watched the video. Ordered the parts. Realizing this is harder than i thought
I bought this case and couldn't find anyone to clearly show how to get the drive trays in. Initially i thought i needed more of type B cages. Thanks to you, i just ordered all of them i could find on Amazon. 2 sets of 2. I just need 3 more sets.
A side note, you can mount 2 more hard drives at the top. If you choose to take the fans out, you can fit 3 more where the fans go. I'm leaving the fans in, but I'll have 2 at top. So 18 x 18tb in my case.
Excellent video. Makes a lot of good points that you don't think about at first.
You know quite a bit about tech all round, big respect for having understanding of your field of expertise.
By the way this video is very helpful for me because I don’t know how to solve the power supply problem about connecting a bunch of drives, this video is also useful for people trying to build their own nas, thank you.
i thought i had not subscribed to the caleb channel until i saw coin breakthrough automatic subscription
Thanks, Nice setup. I will be building exactly like this.
You should have put those rubber pads at 4:03 into the larger cutouts and then slide them into the proper mounting holes so you get a cushion on both sides. The way you did it, the HDD is in contact with the cage.
That's an awesome case! Got one last week. Soooo good!
The drink comment cracked me up. That’s something I would totally do and spill. I could see a CZcams comedy version of destroying builds be pretty successful.
I'm in the process of building this exact set up thanks to this video! Love it! Thank you for doing it! The one speed bump I have ran into is the cord for the USB 3.1 gen 2 in the front I/o will not plug into the USB port on the motherboard. I've order a converter to make it work, but I was wondering if leaving it disconnected for now would be a problem for start up or not. Rookie here..thanks for any help!
Quick question. If I use the PCIE U.2 to M.2 card convertor, can I use plug it into the little PCIE slots, I've got like 3 of those not used in the motherboard
Thank you so much. I got everything connected perfectly except the case has a usb C front panel headers that have no place on the motherboard.
Thanks for this video, really appreciate it
For your U.2 drives you could use an x1-x16 riser keeping the m.2 slots available for dedicated m.2 storage.
Very informative video, much appreciated. Liked & subscribed.
Wow you’re cranking these out! Nice work
Those A400s are fantastic. I have a couple I use for gaming and they are consistently fast.
Thank u for the amazing build video.
can you please let us know what kind of cooling you did for the raid card? mine runs a bit hot at 77 degrees celsius and i have pretty much identical setup as in the video.
Thanks a lot!
Very helpful
Hi I’m new to this and using my current gaming set up 3900x 2080ti 32gb ram and I have a dedicated SSDs for my operating system/games and 40T external hhd to save my plots(thinking about buying another 40T) . I have a 1T 970 or 980 evo plus m.2 laying around not being used ( I have to dig it up I can’t remember) and I was thinking about using it as temporary storage. How many plots can I run on that m.2? And if I do end up buying another 40t should I upgrade to the m.u? I’m just a little lost on that part. Thank you
Nice work man
The m.2 to u.2 converter is PCIe 3.0. Are there any good converter/ adapter with PCIe 4.0?
Superb video!! Love it
Hey man, I've binged watched all your videos. Amazing production quality and content. You're awesome!!! Btw, Amazon link to your store is broken kinda. I had to delete some random symbols in the URL after I clicked on it.
Subscribed - great video! Appreciated
yay, i get to build a chia pet
amazing work! thanks brother
This is getting nuts. Soon there will be the need to pre order and wait months for al essential computer parts
Not only that, but Farming Chia burns out drives, and FAST. The e-waste this is going to generate is absolutely mind boggling. This is going to be a disaster. This ''brilliant idea'' is going to render hard drives disposable.
I keep saying this, but Crypto is very quickly spiraling into a resource wasting cancer infecting and destroying everything.
Next coin will use rams and fans, now your personal computer will have enterprise price
@@archingelus nah but you're not looking at the longetivity of this. Soon manufacturers will be able to overcome the demand of computer parts by scaling up their production. I don't think the availabilitu side will be affected, yeah but the toxic waste is something else
do you usually buy 18 tb drives for personal use?
Awesome video good job! 👍
21:17 LOL the most important step. Great video dude :)
how often you need to replot ? can you plot once and then just farm it indefinately ? or you have to constantly replot ?
What power supply do you use for powering 18 HDD ?
does plotting time matter or just the amount of storage because from my understanding it just shortens the set up and will farm at the same speed....??
After plotting the plot dont show on farm!Since Chia 1.1.2 i need to restart my GUI to plots be count...any help?
Good work, man
If i had 1 nvme for temporary and 1 hard disk for final dorectory for the first plotting, should i replotting it if i add one more hard disk or it will be automatically plotted as final directory from the nvme?
Can you make specific video for plotting please? 🙏
I do want to say thank you first,, for the complete set up.. I'm modifying this to fit my budget.. Bottom line what does this cost to build, how many chia are farmed
is there any reason not to use External hdds? like a seagate 18TB external drive? would love to get an answer on this.
i;m thinking of keeping a 1tb m2 3600write speed for the plot
can you use multiple external hard drives for the farm?
does it make a difference if you have 1 8tb hard drive or 2 4tb hard drives for farming ?
What happens if one of the HD (1.8TB) breaks down? The plots contained in that HD get lost forever from my farm?
Thank you for a wonderful job, please allow me to ask you a question..those destination drives for farming, do you recommend pooling them instead of leaving them as individual drives?
Hi Celeb, regarding the Sideband connector of the raid controller, where do you connect those?
hello sir, why you connected m.2 with u.2. and can we use only hdd in rig with os in ssd
do you actually need 2 plotting ssd? or can you just double the size on your one SSD
what kind of power supply do you need for a build like this? 350-500w?
Keep on the good work
Hello to all! I am new here and i want to start plotting and farming. I read this thread and i learn than i need nvme ssd to plotting and hdd for storage and farming.
I want to ask what it is better for the other pc specs. It is better a pc with 3900x and 32gb ram at 3600mhz or an older motherboard with dual xeon E5 2695V3 (28 cores / 56 threads) and 32gb or 64gb ram 2666mhz?
It is better less cores with higher clock speed or more than double cores with lower speed?
Which system is better for parallel plotting? Do you have any advise for me?
Thanks for your time!
Hey @coinbreakthrough. Does your computer turn off at any point in time? Like how often?
Is there a good alternative on the adaptec controller? Cant find them in cheap and complete condition where i live (EU). Planning on using 10 HDDs
I'm thinking of setting up a chia miner for fun, but want to make the most out of my investment with a large NAS (likely a simple system running FREENAS) + independent systems per task use case. Ie. an Intel NUC for Chia, another for Arweave, another for filecoin, HTPC etc with a common network destination. What were the benefits of farming + destination on one system vs, turning your 360tb into a NAS?
you should have put some more thermal past a part from default heat sink past
Anyone know how to install the OS system in that Kingston hard drive that is used in the build?
I was expecting a tutorial on that as well.
Thanks in advance.
hi, great video, did you need to arrange RAID to see all tb together to mine more power, mining as well as storing?
RAID is a waste of space on a CHIA farmer (miner) machine.
Do the most important needed for chia is HDD and the memory RAM correct ?
Thank you from South Africa ✌🏾
Hello fellow South African
:)
@@lingeshvirinmoonsamy8692 good afternoon Ftiend . Nice to see we have 2 SA people on here . Cheers
@@kumznaidoo773 yeah it's great to meet SA people into mining. Are you planning on mining Chia?
Is it possible to put 2 of the adaptec cards on 1 mainboard?
How to calculate how big plod HD we need for certain capacity farm?
With respect, and I appreciate that the situation was different when you did this video vs. the value of Chia and crypto in general today. The fact is, if anyone is watching, you cannot embark on a Chia farming journey buying any of this stuff. Yes, if you want an ROI in around 10 years, sure, buy new and fancy. I would advise that. Chia might pump. It might not. Who knows. I would recommend going as cheap as you possibly can. If an ROI is important then enjoy the video and the luxury that made sense when Chia was at a certain price. Go look up Chia value in April 2021. Big difference today. Great video though. I appreciate the tip about HBA heat. Not something I really thought about!
Yeah. I just sold a 14 tb WD external to a guy. He said he had a 1.2 petabyte farm and was only making $7 a day... Just the drives alone would have cost at least $20,000 Add a couple grand for the rest of the needed hardware and that's close to 10 years to break even.. unless chia rebounds from its lows... overall, the crypto price boom has been taking a long break.
@@rogerbarnett8412 Your example illustrates the problem. You also don't mention drive failure and replacement costs. The entire promised land is that whatever you acquired now, is worth something in the future and it will exceed what you invested into it. But think about that for a second. If the price of Chia goes to the moon, so will the difficulty and the inability to make any coin. You will need even more storage to try to keep pace, but if the value really goes up, keeping pace will almost be impossible. A lot of things could happen. Of course Chia has to sell promise. That's the only way they get people to farm.
looks like a cool coin to mine. thanks
Hey, what's the speed of plotting using hardware like yours? How many TBs per day?
Sorry if this was already asked, but do you have links for the components?
Does the temp space for plotting stored on the SSD or HDD?
Unfortunately my Corsair HX 750 delayed...can you use other power supply? Thanks
Thank you for doing all that work, this was a very good and informative video on how to build a Chia farming rig.
for avoid vibration you must put rubber pad between trace and HDD not between screw and trace!
Should I get enterprise hdds or regular consumer hdds?
Thx for this video! Question i can mining ETH and same time CHIA on the same tower? thx
I dont get one thing, when your making your plots, you make them on the SSD one bye one then you copy to the HDD? How do you make 3531 plots? How do you make all those, on what drive, and how is that processed.
If I start with a few hard drives, how simple is it to add more drives? Is it a pain in the ass programming-wise or simply plug and play?
For those fiddly little screws that are hard to keep on the end of the screwdriver, just wipe the screwdriver shaft against a magnet. Bingo your screws stay on the screwdriver. To de-magnetize you simply strike the screw driver on any metal edge a couple of times (short sharp blows) and its back to normal again.
Everybody wants a fast temp drive but I have yet to see them being written to at more than 600MB/s
Have you tracked HDD Usage statistics from plot to farm yet?
How did you manage to get the second m.2_2 slot to work with the P4610 and use a Graphics Card to work in the PCIE slot? I can't get the second m2_2 slot drive to appear
Can this be done by connecting the external hdds via usb?
Question : for HDD 18TB, can I use HARDDISK SEAGATE SKYHAWK A.I MFI 18 TB / HDD SKYHAWK A.I 18TB MFI or it need tobe NAS type ?
can u do farming chia on a enlosure external instead?
Sorry for my ignorance but this should work also with SSDs instead of HDs? Thanks.
PCIe SAS give problems, have same board and same PCIE SAS card, mother board not recognize.... any sugestion? (have last bios fw)
stupid question, can you put storage space on a GPU mining rig and add some extra ram and mine both Chia and Eth or whatever else you are mining?
SSD need to use for create the plot , and than use HDD to farming?
Example : I use SSD create 3plots and I used HDD for farming with that 3plots.
It's can or not?
Hy, I have a question, how do you enter the BIOS of the Adaptec controller? Thank you.
Is it possible to use an LSI 9200-8e card? - Can't seem to get mine to work with my set up.
Small question: When you put the cooler on top of the CPU, shouldn't you use some "paste" between them? (the grey liquid stuff). thank you.
It already comes with enough applied to the base, the wraith coolers are great.
Wouldn't you be able to connect a monitor through a VGA, DVI or HDMI built on the motherboard? I'm confused. That would just save a pcie slot. Pretty sure the mb you got supports either of those if not all.
most helpful video i have senn. Thank you
awesome content, question about threads..so an AMD 3950x with 16 cores 32 threads can handle 16 plots in parallel? (32 threads / 2 per plot ) Is that correct?
How much power in Watts is the Unit producing?
I'm curious, how is the performance on you pc, single plot, default settings. Hiw long start to finish?
Hi. Is that a problem if i am not using GPU? Instead, use only onboard video?
Are there not Enterprise/Data Center M.2 Drives?
I use thermal pad rated double sided tape for everything. Fans, ssds, m.2s, little heat sink blocks on m.2 is wicked as well as on the backplate of gpus
Hello great build , how many plots a day this build can do ?
Thanks
Please do u I need a large of bandwidth to mine chia?
Love these vids! Would love a video on how to farm on multiple computers (i.e a main desktop and multiple old laptops sitting around the house). Also, how would this work if I can't fit more storage into my PC? Can I do external storage?
yes you can.
Nice job! but i like the bequiet dark base more:)
Do you know if I can plot offline the join plots to blockchain later? I have some computers that I want to just setup in a closet and create plots. Also, can I move plots from temp hard drive to a more permanent online farming drive?
Yes to all those questions
