Elusive Jump: Every time you use this ability during an eight man raid to avoid damage, it will land you outside the arena, killing yourself. When all your party is dead and you're using it to kill yourself out of the arena, however, it will let you land just inside of a safe spot. #truestory.
I'm pretty sure I've been able to double weave the single and aoe target jumps without an issue of clipping, though I usually try to not do it. Maybe my skill speed is too low?
You can weave any two non star diver jumps with incredibly low ping, I'm talking

I'm a new player and just recently hit lvl 50. In fact I'll be finishing ARR tonight. I knew as soon as I started that I was going to dragoon. But man, those late game combos look threatening lmao
Newbie here and just barley getting this down, but can someone please tell the rotation for multiple enemies..im having such a hard time finding a good one. Thanks!
My main question was about the even minute reopener, the 10gcd rotation is 25sec, which isnt multiples of 30sec/60sec , so my 2 min reopener looks ugly and i struggle to fit all 2 life surge into the buff window, i've thought about delating the buffs of 2gcd but that doesn't sound good, or i've thought of repeating the heaven's thrust combo instead of going into chaos combo but i'd lose disembowel/dot uptime. is there a solution to this of it'll never be pretty like in the opener?
I'm not a Dragoon main and all this knowledge was simply researched but my best suggestion is to just use a Life Surge outside of buffs on a Heavens Thrust instead of using 2 for every Re-opener, you lose 4 potency at most.
Should be explained in a bit more detail in the rotation section of the video if you're struggling still
Can't speak to Dragoon's beginner-friendliness since I didn't even touch the job until I had almost everything else at 90, but I can certainly say that the opposite is true: experienced players are going to HATE low-level Dragoon, and possibly even continue to hate it as it levels.
Just to name a few reasons: It takes so many levels to get an AOE, longer than even Ninja. It has no way of generating Power Surge in AOE situations until past level 60, unless you waste time hitting a single enemy with the first two hits of a single-target combo. Speaking of that combo, the difference in duration between Chaos Thrust's DOT and Power Surge is awkwardly between combos at earlier levels, meaning you're choosing between reapplying Power Surge early or reapplying Chaos Thrust late depending on how many Full Thrust combos you do. Dragoon's mobility is awkward as well, having its gap closers function as its big oGCD hits that you want to pile into buff windows and use on cooldown, meaning you'll never actually get to use them for re-engaging if you have to break away from the boss. Its actual mobility tool is needlessly complicated by the fact that it moves BACKWARDS, meaning you either use it to disengage or have to 180 yourself before using it to re-engage (and hope the game doesn't think you haven't fully turned around yet and doesn't send you careening to the side instead).
Even as Dragoon levels up and some of those issues get ironed out (longer combo more naturally fitting the buff/DoT duration, extra Spineshatter Dive to save for re-engaging, AOE combo giving you Power Surge) it just piles on more awkwardness. The longer combos mean your usual hotkey setup that fits across most jobs simply doesn't apply anymore, and depending on your setup you might be having to do incredibly awkward hand movements to hit your combos. In between all that you have a crazy amount of oGCDs to be pulling off during the first few seconds of a fight, all with very similar icons and weird animation locks, some that move you and some that don't, all while trying to remember if your current combo ends with flank-rear positionals or rear-flank. To make those oGCDs even more awkward, they went ahead and made it so that the *order* in which you do them matters as well, vis a vis Mirage Dive (which is its own button for some reason instead of replacing Jump) and Geirskogul. That when combined with the 5-hit single-target combos and 3-hit AOE combo gives Dragoon some very serious button bloat issues.
I think, as a beginner, you could probably just not notice what's so awkward about Dragoon compared to other jobs, and in that sense it's probably pretty easy. Hit your combos in order, press the other buttons as they're available, remember to Life Surge before your big hits. But coming from a more experienced point of view, Dragoon just trades off different levels/areas of awkwardness throughout leveling and doesn't ever really grow out of it.
Long-winded way of me saying that yes I absolutely understand why they want to rework this job, it needs it more than any other job out there.
ngl I would love to see a smoother leveling process and an ironed out core rotation at lvl 50 ( or at the very least lvl 60). also petition to make dragon sight work like dance partner cus I am a controller pleb and I don't wanna be bothered to select my teammate during a fight to hit the button or else we gon lose that 5% dps smh
This is such a good summary of how it feels. I am late melee dps bloomer and attempted to level them all simultaneously by ten levels at a time. I quickly realized that my set up is so weird and I’ve absolutely experienced the gap closer loss due to opening damage or having to save one just in case. Learning curves 🤷🏾♂️
I find it enjoyable but it definitely could be reworked so it’s more streamlined.
Ive done 14:48 wrong since EW release until last week I realized that my bursts were out of 2min despite everything being on cooldown lol
I figured out eventually if i swap the order of High Jump and Geirskogul to delay it on purpose, itll fall right in, came here anyway to check if I had the right idea finally
Luckily I wasnt a DRG main anyway, so it never fell into weigth when I needed it...

As a lvl 57 dragoon this is almost completely nonsense and i love every second of it. Nothing like looking up a guide that leaves you slightly nervous for whats to come
Dunno where you’re at now but just know it never gets easier. I’m at 400 hours with DRG and I constantly fudge my combos lol.

drg is the only melee i can't take into raids tbh, i don't get how people say it's easy. i've (cough) parsed (cough) way higher on nin, sam, and rpr than i ever have on drg. we don't talk about mnk

Yes. Get lancer and do the job missions until you hit level 30. Once there, you'll receive the Soul of the Dragoon which can be equipped to change the class.

It’s annoying to put dragon’s sight on a party member on console because targeting allies are a pain in the a**. If anyone has a tip, I would be glad to hear it.
You can make a macro so it always target a specific party member. An example would be
/ac "Dragon Sight"
/micon "Dragon Sight"
You can change your party sort order either manually in party members tab by clicking on their names and pressing the arrows or in your character settings > ui settings > party list tab and sort it by job or role. Also feel free to copy and paste the first /ac line a few times to ensure the macro gets queued and not ghosted
So... DRG still very much looks like it will feel similar to "whack-a-mole" then... I haven't missed out on much I see.

Well, there's always dark knight! We can always play a completely different role and press the same ogcd 6 times every burst, instead of dragoon's variety

I don't mind it, but double weaving Dragon Sight is so fucking bad on console still. That's the only shit I want changed. Can make a macro for it but then everyone says double weaving a macro is bad, I want to play DRG but this one ability on console is fucking shite.
i have most melee classes at 90 and for me dragoon is the most complicated class to play correctly. theres just too many dmg boost options, it 100% needs a rework and i cant wait for it
