  • I decided I wanted the best table saw for my new woodshop, so I sold my Sawstop PCS and got a fully loaded 5hp Sawstop ICS with their large sliding table and the floating overarm dust collection. I changed the thumbnail after uploading, so that is why there is a bit of a confusing spoiler to the start of this.

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice czcams.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

Hey Scott. In my eyes, that's the bad thing you can buy. Space and money wasted.
Buy yourself a German sliding table saw. From Felder / Hammer or Martin.
You can work with it and not play.
      American table saws are garbage.
If you want to buy one and need help, get in touch.
      Greetings from Germany.

Nice review, and tool. I can attest to the value of buying the best (if you have room and $$). Twenty five years ago I bought a Delta Unisaw (best in class at that time) and it is still going strong. I added an extension table and Biesmire fence (which your fence is based on) and later a drop down roller out-feed. I am sure your saw is better in many ways, but not by much. You will enjoy this for decades!

Very excited. I just purchased the ICS and waiting for it to arrive. Im a general contractor and have never built a cabinet in my life but I want to change that. My friend is a cabinet maker and Ive watched and helped him over the years, he told me to go big with the HP so I did. Good points were that I can grow into it and if I ever wanted to sell it there are lots of takers for a saw that good and that big. I have a good shop and look forwarded to piecing together a great little shop and I fully understand the value of good tools and this seems to be the center piece of a shop.

15 years ago, before Sawstop, I was in the market for a replacement of my old Craftsman contractor's table saw. I had come into a nice chunk of money and was looking to do this time and be happy for the rest of my life. I was visiting Green Bay, Wi and found Woodworking Depot. At the time, they had one of everything from every manufacturer on display. The clerk steered right to a Delta Unisaw with the 5 HP motor. He was kind enough to give me some information on several others but he had me at "hello" with the Delta. If Sawstop would have been available, I probably would have bought it just for the safety factor but, doing some research on what was available then, it was the Delta....and then everything else. I bought the one with the 52 inch to the right of blade table. I still have it, use it religiously and that 5 HP motor has never once bogged down on anything I cut. Thanks to that guy at Woodworker's Depot, he saved me from buying the 3 HP motor and spending the extra bucks on the 5HP......I'm figuring that this will be the last table saw I'll ever have to buy!

You seem to think that everyone gets their saw for free and that nobody pays for their tools.. that’s pretty ignorant of how taxes work for one. If a person were to be gifted a product, they still have to claim the value; if they buy it but get to write off the expense because of the use as a video prop, it lowers their tax liability. Smart people know how to game the system and it isn’t from “free” tools.

I just purchased the Industrial, 36 inch 5 hp saw, mobile base, overhead dust guard, and the slider for my saw. The slider, unfortunately did not arrive at the same time my saw arrived, and hopefully they will ship it free as it was a 6 hour round trip from Medford to Eugene. I have not set the saw up yet, as I am waiting on the slider to arrive. I want to see how much room it will take up in my garage/shop. The one thing I can say so far about this saw, is the quality that is packed into it. Just the feel, the touch, the weight of this saw tells me that yes, I probably bought something a bit off an overkill, but in truthfulness, I am already in love with it, and I still have not powered it up yet! The one thing I did, that I am sure is just a bit nuts, is I took excellent car wax, and waxed the outside of it, to help keep the dirt from building up on it. $7,000 is a bit to spend on a saw..but, I believe it is well worth it...my fingers sure are...I play the piano as well, and I have taken a liking to my fingers!

My favorite holiday is what we call here in Brazil "June's holidays" or something like that. There are a few holidays in June that they kind of put together... You know? Anyway, the food is amazing! (I just got hungry again now! 😂)
    Fantastic, Cam! Congrats!!! 😃
I just bought my first table saw here, it's a Stanley... Contractor's table saw, I guess. But my space isn't big, so... I'm pretty happy with it. 😊
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Wonder if you could do a dust skirt with velcro as the another subscriber suggested, but leave the front open so you can still see the blade and to keep airflow going.

Christmas 🎄⛄🤶🎅🏼 I agree that their isn't much you can do to get a 100% dust free environment but from what I saw that was really amazing the setup and precise cuts. I also love the fact that you can adjust almost everything so you can have precise measurements. The quality before was awesome with "eyeballing" and tape measure but now you have a 3rd option that will absolutely bring the finished product to another level and increase the quality many times over. Great video Cam 🤘🏻😊🤘🏻

Boxing Day..... I grew up in the UK! On December 26th, back in the day, the rich boxed up gifts to give to the poor. In like-kind, the day after Christmas was a day off for servants and their masters would box up leftover food from their opulent Christmas meals and deliver it to their servants.
    Happy holidays 🎄

Hi Cam, really enjoying your channel. Ok here it goes. I am shopping for a new table saw. I am a hobbyist but have sold some tables and want to get to the next level as I am retiring in the next couple of years. I essentially work in one half of our two car garage, as far as my dust making tools go. I do have dust collection and all. My dilemma is weather to spend the cash for a Saw Stop. I know you are probably somewhat biased as they gave you that saw and yes it's a beauty. I am looking at a Harvey 2hp set up. If you are not aware of Harvey they own Bridge City now and their miter gauge is all cnc aircraft aluminum and included with the saw, their sliding table also is of this same quality as the optional router table I would consider at some point. The miter saw is the high low variety which "looks" better than the Sawstop. There is nowhere to go see a Harvey...This saw is 70% the cost of the SawStop. I consider myself to be a very safe wood worker, but as injured people say, so were they...I am trying to justify spending the extra money for the safety but not sure if the saw itself is really superior. It appears Sawstop is taking over the industry and hopefully not just for the safety. Sure you have to pay for the safety as it is an engineered really great feature. One thing I do like about the Sawstop is the folding outfeed table and in a smaller shop it would be nice to be able to fold it down when not in use. I would have to upgrade to the Harvey Compass miter gauge. My local Woodcraft would be my support for it and I also hear SawStop is amazing with customer service. Harvey has some folks not so happy. I know spending money is always a personal decision, I guess I am thinking money saved can be used to buy....a track saw! But seriously, any comment or thought you may be able to provide would be so much appreciated. Sorry for such a long note....Brian

Our makerspace has had an ICS for about 5 years and it gats used quite a bit. It's a pretty good saw. The major drawbacks is that there is no dust collection in the cabinet, just the shroud around the blade. So dust escaping around the shroud stays in the cabinet. This causes a problem when fine dust accumulates around the bezel gears used in the blade height mechanism. The interlock switches on the doors can cause the saw to shut down, sometimes in the middle of a cut. We have had the brake fire about 5 times. Two times it was due to something silly, like trying to cut mirrored acrylic, but we have had 3 brake firings that occurred for not reason what so ever. So there's that.

Something to consider… I wanted to buy a SS, but was concerned about freezing the safety cartridge. I live in Minnesota and my shop is an insulated detached garage. I don’t always work out there and don’t heat it continuously, so it freezes often. I called SS, asked about freezing the cartridge. They said not to freeze it. They said you should remove the cartridge every day, and bring it inside the house. Every day. Then re-insert it. Every day. As much as I wanted a SS, I bought a different saw, and am extremely careful. However, SS is a wonderful saw.

Awesome. About the instructions for your new table saw, well that is what supposed to be. Love the color coordinated with the parts. Agree, 99% of instructions on anything are either scant or if any, not in color and not specific so I usually end up looking for YTb videos a lot for better instructions. Yes, companies should emulate SawStop. May be one I get that table. Congratulations. 🎉

I had a 5 hp powermatic 66 3 phase for 12 years and loved it. The weight and build were significant. However age and eye sight started to get into my head and realized that my insurance deductible was more than a new SawStop. After reading Chris Schwarz's review of the PCS, judged against his gold standard the Powermatic 66 I went with the ICS which addressed all the critiques Schwarz raised. After using it for 2 months now I like it WAY better than my 66 . The engineering on the different features are clever and fit and finish are top notch. I got the small slider as well . It's a little finicky but I am learning to use it and it is proving very useful.

The smaller PCS, 1.75 HP will cut through just about anything you want to throw at it, walnut, maple and even some exotic eucalyptus I got full logs of from someone. I've cut through all of those with the blade at full height, 3.x inches with no or very little burning. It helps to have a good sharp blade and everything on the saw adjusted to the nth degree. I often cut thin veneer, walnut, maple, etc., with the SS.. Incredible machine worth every penny plus it helps that it isn't going to cut your fingers off and that alone is worth the price of admission.
Believe me when I tell you that your fingers are not immune to the effects of a high speed spinning blade. It only takes a split second to slip up and it isn't nearly as much fun as seen on TV..
