  • This is a video of an octave mandolin that I recently completed. If you’re interested in Octa mandolins, this is a cool design, because it looks better than most and it sounds awesome. It also has a very familiar feel for the guitar players in the world… feel free to leave any comments below #hammtone #boutiqueguitars #canadianguitar #canadianguitars and thank you so much for watching. #octavemandolin #mandolin #epiphoneolympic #archtopguitar

    That's a beautiful instrument Jeremy. I especially like the birdseye view footage you got using Johnny's ceiling cell phone apparatus. Sounded great.

      Darrell! It’s GG DD AA EE, one octave lower than a mandolin. It fits somewhere between a Mandola and a mando cello in tuning. Thanks!

    sounds and look great. you mentioned you got a piezo on (in?) the bridge. what model/brand is it?

    • @Hamm-toneGuitars
      @Hamm-toneGuitars  Před měsícem +1

      It’s a circular Piezo, the one that’s about the size of a dime. Like this: www.ebay.ca/itm/353800000665?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=zbborm9tr3u&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=5H-Rb7UYRCi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

      @@Hamm-toneGuitars Fantastic. I have experimentet with those disk Piezos, but never gotten that good sound from them. Good Job! Were is it placed, if you don't mind me asking?

      K&K pickups do a good job using them in an effective way. I basically try to mimic their method. I even mix a little bit of epoxy and seal off the solder joins on the back, it has just enough mass to reduce feedback and microphonic reaction, and it also helps make sure that the solder joins do not come loose. On this particular one I have it mounted directly beneath the bridge, using epoxy. Just one. On acoustic Guitars I will use three. I glued it on before I fastened the back.

    Beautiful Jeremy! When playing on the upper frets does it approach standard Mando sound?

      I’ve played it capoed up, and I think because it has such a large body, it has more of a Mandola sound. There is a certain sweetness that only a smaller body can give. It is such a complementary instrument to other higher frequency instruments. It also has such a unique voice compared to most.
