Celebrate how far you've come till then, and how far you'll go after. We the audience treasure each and every one of these performances, flaws and all 😄
It's easy to spot your own mistakes when you spend hundreds of hours working on something. The consumer typically just sees the final product and takes it for what it is.
But love how honest they are roasting themselves and that they are making excuses, or minimizing the lil errors they are watching

Brett has a mature & honest soul. It beautifully reflects on his performance that it overwrites any minor mistakes he made. He's great but just needs to learn to let go & let loose.
Eddy has more of a winner's spirit. His fire burns & echoes onto peoples' will. He's great as well, but needs to learn how to be more vulnerable with himself so that he can perfectly resonate with the instrument.

I think they know friends will say nice things anyway. Also, whoever critiques them thinks that he/she has to say nice things to avoid receiving hate comments. Not everybody knows that we aren't the kind of fans who write hate comments.
I think it's funny they're critical of their concert, because the rest of us just loved it so much. It was more than just a concert. It was like dear friends for whom we're rooting for. I was so touched by Brett's Mendelssohn. Can't wait for the 5 million!🥳🥳🥳

One of my mentors had a mother with dementia. Her mother was a painter, but had always hated her own work. However, one day, while they were walking through my mentor's house, her mom saw a painting and started gushing, "That's so beautiful: where did you get it?!" Due to her dementia, she had forgotten that She was the one to have painted it. She could see the beauty in her own work because she was viewing it from an outside perspective.

I help take care of my 93 year old grandpa, he has dementia, he was a musician when young, and though he no longer remembers his family sometimes he asks for his old harmonica and plays a tune only with his muscle memory and still enjoys the applause… it’s just so sad… but I really liked your comment, thank you for sharing ❤

Don't be hard on yourselves guys! Re Mendy, this is what Simon Streuff said when he did his appraisal of the piece:
“Also that the Classical Music world should a little bit be careful with its elitist behaviour because someone like Brett Yang is a violin CZcamsr; he can perform this concerto in some aspects better and convey more music than many other professional performances I have heard from world classical violinists and we have to think about that.”
And Ray, in his recent appraisal, said that one month is not enough to get used to playing another instrument. He'd only rent if it was a YEAR contract before his performance, he said, so he was proud of you guys...
Yes, Brett plays from the heart and we love him for it.
I could only find positive responses and critics to Brett's Mendelson. Have seen three different channels reacting to his performance, and everyone gave really good critics and offered tips to improve.
Twoset is hard on themselves, they have always been, but I hope Brett can enjoy this and take the praice to his heart.

@@wakingtheworld I can't remember the namn of the channel. It's a woman who shows sheet music and comments on Brett's playing. She highlights good and not so good parts. She also was very supportive. I think the videos were released shortly after the concert.

No reason for cringe with regards to Mendelssohn. The flaws didn't disturb the overall experience and the passionate interpretation was really good. No I don't mean it like a parent telling the kid something encouraging, it was really good.
I come back and listen to it from time to time. I prefer it over most world class performances because of the amount of emotion.

Twoset cringe at their own performances 16min 43s straight lol But to be honest, we can hear and see a clear improvement of their playing, script writing, choice of clothes (LMAO), settings, and camera/video quality. Ahh, you should have reviewed your Tchaikovsky from the Virtual! Why did you skip it? I mean seriously, all jokes and innuendo aside, that was some of the best combined playing you guys have ever done. I was seriously in awe. Like, if I had just heard the audio, without seeing the screen, I wouldn't have believed it was both of you. i would have thought it had to be just one person on the violin. And the acting was also beautiful. It felt so *sincere*. It was beautiful to watch. You guys should release a quick follow up where you give your opinions on it!

@@shahx1010 I personally think they don't actually care that much about those kind of jokes, simply because they keep making them. Mind you, I'm not saying I believe they're true; I figure it's their business and no one else's. But it's a shame they didn't review that combo playing, it was beyond incredible. And the acting (at least in the NA concert) was so strong, I literally did not laugh the whole time. I was blown away, it was so moving.

That’s why I keep listening to your performances. There is something wrong with musical education, and your success is the proof. Don’t disappoint us by saying our ears are not good enough.
i don't mind admitting that my ears aren't as good as theirs or others' (esp. actual musicians). but yes, we don't watch them for their perfect intonation, phrasing, musicianship or whatnot.

Simon Streuff Violin-Education posted a very good series of videos giving constructive criticism to Brett's Mendelssohn performance. Its very thoughtful in its critiques and Simon gives encouragement and praise to several points as well. Brett n Eddy, or anyone interested in violin, would probably find them a good watch.
Yes, and he also commented that no performance is perfect. Always room to improve. I thot his reviews were spot on.

Brett, your mendelssohn is one of my most favourite recordings of the piece! It's so soulful, so beautiful and just connects with your audience around the world! You did so well and instead of cringing (too hard, because one is probably still cringing about one owns recording), you can be very proud of yourself!!!

I'm not a classical musician and I've never learnt an instrument, but I'm really proud of Brett's Mendelssohn. It sounded beautiful and clean, I didn't get bored watching it and although I know he was very very nervous, I think he showed both personality and restraint. He did a great job. Especially considering that it was his first like... proper big solo? Like he is a CZcamsr and has performed with Eddy on stage countless times by now, and did solos before. But like this was _huge?_ And I think he killed it, despite how he criticizes himself.
*Apologies if any of the terminology I used is inaccurate or weird, as I said I'm not trained at all and don't know classical music other than from watching TwoSet. I can't play an instrument and I never studied music theory. But yeah, this is just my opinion and review. I think Brett did brilliant and I felt overwhelmingly proud of him.
I watched Mendelson concert on stream. One could hear Brett was nervous at the beginning, but it got much better with the time. Some parts were really beautiful.
Most of it was really good tbh. Not perfect but genuinely good. He had an amazing tone and a great interpretation almost throughout the entire thing, and with the exception of like the first minute (or so), roughly a minute towards the end, and like 30 seconds in the middle of the second movement, it was a genuinely beautiful performance, even if it wasn't immaculate.
My favorite part in Brett's Mendelssohn 8:33 part. I was doing chores but when that part hit the sound was so sweet that I just had to stop what I was doing to enjoy the sound.
Oh dude, I just realized it's Rodolfo Barráez conducting in the Mendelssohn performance, who goes on to win first place in the Hong Kong International Conducting Competition earlier this year!

Brett and Eddy's cringes are so relatable, because they measure themselves against an unrealistic standard. We do too! But we can see that you guys are awesome in your own right. You guys have things that the greatest prodigies in world can only dream of having! You have your amazing creativity, you are funny, you are making a mark in the classical music world that is truly having a great impact, you are extremely generous with fellow violinists, and you are fabulous violinists yourselves! Hilary reached out to you because she saw your greatness above and beyond your virtuosity! You have these unique talents and capabilities that Hilary and Ray can see clearly and don't necessarily have on their own. That's why they appreciate what you do so much!

While watching the 4 mill concert Brett’s Mendelssohn almost made me cry a few times. It was so beautiful and heartfelt and had such a rich tone. When playing live it will never be perfect. We are human. We make mistakes . It’s funny how hard you are on yourselves . I also liked the rest of the concert; the Bach Double and Eddy’s Paganini were really enjoyable. Lesson: you are harder on yourselves than your audience is on you❤
The Paganini was definitely the weakest of the three performances, but that's completely legitimate, since he only had two weeks (!!!) to practice it (which is so insane and so impressive!). It's not that noticeable if you don't know the piece really well though, and I think that's because of that one thing that they mentioned Ziyu He said to them once: that you can hide a lot of flaws in your playing behind the fast-paced fireworks of Paganini's pieces, whereas with a piece like the Mendelssohn concerto it's far more difficult to hide behind anything, and therefore flaws stand out much more.

Hope Brett knows i prefer his Mendy recording to those of most (if not all) famous soloists. It's very easy to only highlight what you weren't able to do but what you achieved musically with the whole piece is something to be proud of! A rendition so full of soul, yearning and many more emotions words fail to be enough to express but your violin does perfectly. Congrats Brett!!!

I had a performance and I can’t even get myself to watch the video of me playing bc I was cringing all night. It’s 10 minutes long and I can’t get through a second.

Wow...just wow. I love how absolutely NIT-PICKY they are (this is a GOOD thing) because as a musician you practice all those hours and you want to deliver what you know you can deliver (but as they show, it doesn't always turn out that way).
I have had an interesting experience throughout my life where I spent maybe 10-12 years performing 70s/80s vocal covers in duos and trios where I had to produce the backing tracks of the drums/bass and possibly a small keyboard part (like strings) and then perform live keyboards/guitars/vocals/harmony over the top of this. While I certainly had a desire for quality and practiced a fair bit (both alone and with the other band members), the really funny part of those 10-12 years was how LITTLE I cared about making mistakes during performance. This was because in that case there was way more "cover" (TwoSet talks briefly about that where there's enough going on around you that your flaws don't show as much, heh heh).
Plus, because I was doing many things at once (I was our sound man as well as responsible for all recordings), I was actually MORE focused on things outside of my actual keyboard or vocal performance. Interesting.
Fast forward to today where I'm producing solo piano works and starting to perform solo piano in churches (and hopefully other venues). WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE. All of a sudden every single note is important and not just the notes themselves, but the nuances of how the note is played, how it relates to the other notes/chords going on, and then just the movement of the piece itself. I'm just glad my piano (Yamaha CP88) is literally digital and can never go out of tune nor can I accidentally hit intonation (like violins can).
Finally I will mention the situation "in the studio" and when you're practicing vs. recording. I will hit the note or passage perfectly while practicing a song 50 times...and for some reason I hit the RECORD button and I lose my ever loving MIND?! It's hilarious!
Then I get to church and I try to trot out one of my (what I think!) fantastic arrangements of a hymn and my hands are shaking and I lose my mind even MORE than in the studio trying to record.
There is SO MUCH to this whole music thing it boggles the mind. It's a wonder that we ever get things right?!
These two guys truly inspire me and their love of music and their humility is a great example to learn from. Please keep up the GREAT work!
Sorry to be a comment hog...but one more thing that cracks me up: you have a memory of something cringey in a performance and you go back and listen to it and there are actual moments of BRILLIANCE! YES! And then the reverse of that is also true...something you think you nailed and you go back and listen and...meh...maybe didn't nail it like I thought.
Finally: an old guitarist band member of mine used to always remind me: during live performance, if you are an audience member (and most likely not a musician at the level of these guys) that music is flat-out FLYING BY at a pace that most people cannot grok the mistakes. He used to remind me that performance, for the most part, is to entertain or bless the audience...and I spent so much time fretting about leetle teensy things that I often missed out on a great time we had or especially that the audience had. The audience is NOT going to remember the 1 micro-second of intonation amongst the 37 notes that flew by in 2 seconds. Not gonna happen. They ARE going to remember whether you smiled, whether your soul shared the gift you have to them and WITH THEM and whether you made them part of the experience or not.
Anyways...those are me thoughts...great videos and I love hearing these two go back and forth!
I played at a recital for students in a church in December and it had a fabulous sound. Made me sound better. My friend recorded me- it worked the opposite, it highlighted all the bad tones the beautiful acoustic room had been covering up.
Also I agree there’s a lot of how it feels to the audience which is not always how it literally sounds objectively.
I'm not a violinist and think you are excellent at what you do.The fact that you roast yourselves (undeservedly, according to me) just shows that there's no ego involved and that means you passed the test with flying colours! 40 hours a day,guys!🎻🎻🎻🎻🎵🎶🎼
Brett and Eddy smiling at their own performances is my comfort watch ☺ Brett's Mendy is still my favourite Mendy and one of my favourite performances ever.
Okay so I'm not an old fan, but when I first knew about TwoSet not only I enjoyed their videos at that time a lot, but also their earlier videos with lower video quality and presentation, and the kind of comedy that, tbh, I didn't get (partly due to lack of language comprehension and musical world inside jokes). But I've loved each of them because I can see how they've grown over the years (which was also an amazing thing because, I was "😧😧" when I knew they were in their late 20s). And for everything they did in their tours that I could find on the internet, I was always like "OMG I can't believe they did that, for an audience." But I looked at the audience and listened to their laughter, and I knew how engaging the tours must be and that TwoSet always try to do their best. Their goal, which are performing and doing comedy, are achieved. I admire them for everything they've done for their own passion and the audience. It's just incredible to look at the past and see how much they're grown. The channel's grown, the community's grown, and TwoSet have also done a live concert and more is to come. However cringe it is to look at these early performances, it is worth watching again 😄

FINALLY THE MENDY REVIEW I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR. I saw the title and I rush home sooner than usual from my own practice time, notes to self dont check phone during practice time XD
But honestly you guys improved a lo, both in playing the violin and in your stage performance. During your early days, you can tell there is so much unfamiliarity with stage performances (not the orchestra type) and it gets better slowly thoughout the time your are on stage, the virtual world tour, the latest one with Davie. So give yourself a pat on the back!
There are moments of imperfections and moments you shine with your perfomances as violinists and that is fine, as long as you keep wanting to improve and practice you definitely will be able to pass through or minimize those issue (such as nerves I know stage fright/nerves are musician worse night mare man)
Cant wait for what your upcoming worldt tour!
BUT WHY DID YOU GIVE THE BACH DOUBLE ONLY A FEW SECONDS GUYS 😭 Your Bach double, especially the 2nd mvt is my favorite, you could say more about how you guys approach ittttt.

I hope they release the reaction towards the rest of the bach, some of their other performances during thw vwt too, it not only gives funny video to watch but also interesting musically wise for viewers to see what to focus and listen to during a performance. Other than that I miss their violin review video, Im glad this is back
YEA BOTH THE SHOSTAKOVICH AND TCHAIKOVSKY PERFORMANCES like yea i understand they might not be too comfortable with the shippers but to me those clips especially showed how much their serious acting and script writing has improved!! plus the pieces they played were so beautiful like omfg def in my favorites
@@ash......... tbh it's not so much about the shippy thing for the Tchai judging from their reactions, it's probably even more cringe or too embarrassing. But yes, I am very very interested in how they practice for the Tchai! Like it's hard to coordinate your own hands on the violin, to coordinate with one another is super hard, you can tell by the way Eddy eyes was very focus during that segment to know how hard it was. Yet, the sound of that part was very good, it's not too obviously faulty (like very crunchy or out of tune). Im very curious.
And needless to say about Shosty both vwt performance and battle vs Davie was really good., I don't know why they skip those performances, as someone who love Shosty string quartet 8 and their performance of that part I was so sad :'( please pt.2

Dear Brett and Eddy, it's videos like this that are incredibly important. Musicians of all levels look at their own playing like this and are incredibly critical. Now it's important to remember that the audience doesn't care about the little slip-ups in the grand scheme of things and it's about what you have to say with your music ❤ you should be so proud of your achievements!

They had a game (don't remember which video) in which one would play the piece but the observer would be listening to something completely different (like opera) through headphones and guess the piece the other one was playing.

All I can think of is how while Brett and Eddy might feel cringe watching back or remembering the perfomances they did, those perfomances are most definetly a core memory for a lot of fans and a truly out of world experience that they can reminisce of.

I understand why people want Brahms because it's just an awesome concerto, but do you honestly, in the deepest depths of your heart, think Eddy's playing is more suited to Brahms than Brett's?
Because I feel *very much* like Brahms is one of those pieces that really are a match made in heaven for Brett's really sweet, lyrical, intimate, but when need be also really bombastic in a Romantic Era way, style of playing, like all the big Romantic Era concertos. We've know Tchaikovsky was his piece, he has just proven how amazing he can sound playing a Big Romantic Concerto with proper preparation time and proper sound production with Mendelssohn, and I feel like Brahms would be the logical continuation of that for 6 mil.
Eddy, based on everything he's said in videos, is definitely much more *into* repertoire like Sibelius, Prokofiev, Korngold, Shostakovich than he is into Romantic Era concertos, and I think that's great because the way in which he plays also matches those pieces much better than the large Romantic Era concertos. So to me it seems logical he should play something like that for 5mil. It's up to him in the end, of course, if he desperately wants to play Brahms I can't stop him and I'm sure it'd be good, but I'd much rather have him play Korngold or Prok, and wait for Brett to play Brahms for 6 mil (honestly, after hearing Brett's Mendelssohn, I really to experience him playing the entire concerto at least once in my life!)

I love their playing, you can feel they put emotion in the pieces...is not only performing or faces, is that touch on the strings and that pressure on the bow, you hear the difference when someone just play it and someone who FEEL IT while playing too. Also I love their taste with their playing decisions, they stick to the original scripture and maybe it's me but they tend to sound totally like romantic era boys XD Eddie is more academical and clean in his playing, but I enjoy more Brett's playing because even when he think he is rushing or he is doing errors I can still feel how much he cares and put love in it 🥺🥺🥺 bless the day you two met and started this channel, without that past there couldn't be this present 💝 thank you, thank you, thank you both 💖

I did a "Musical Journal" during Covid of me working through a piece of music that was pretty difficult for me. There was plenty I disliked about my entries but I still took time to appreciate bits I did well.
