Homer were always a sweet character to me, thats why, especially the early seasons, are so endearing. It ads an extra level of warmth upon the humor or his character I think.
@@Welpme69 As The Simpsons is a satire and not a drama, they often make light jokes of heavy topics, and exaggerate a lot. I think some of the jokes they fit characters into are more sort of what the structure of the joke calls for, like when they make the whole town a murderous angry mob. Bart being strangled by Homer doesn't have the same energy as Peter Griffin treating Meg like crap, it's more comedic relief and portrays the relationship between a prankster rapscallion and his goofy and temperamental father, where as in family guy it's dark humor.
@@an8790 hey you just turned me around on an opinion i had! The strangling was something that i didnt like even in the classic seasons but considering the pain Homer takes, its probably just a slight slap on the wrist in Bart's POV
@@scr0ngle108 I remember hearing long ago, I could be wrong, that Matt Groening said that the strangle gags are so exaggerated because they can get away with it without it being too visceral, real, or depressing, since the Simpsons is a cartoon. While that's true, I also think the tone, how other chracters react to it, is really important as well. I take it to mean that it is physical humor, and it is closer to Tom & Jerry teir big wood hammer to the head violence than it is to portrayals of real violence, but not really THAT far on the sprectrum. A little less.
The janitor's just finding it weird that Lombardo's so enthusiastically praising things that are usually looked at as ordinary things that are no major accomplishments. I had an arts teacher like that, he loved teaching our group and sometimes complained that he wanted to join us but he had to teach the class Turns out he spent a decade teaching highschools and not a single kid cared about his class, they all saw it as a space to goof around and get an easy passing grade and that's why teaching people who actually wanted to learn felt so good for him
